While appearing on SiriusXM NFL (http://www.giants101.com/tag/nfl/) Radio Monday afternoon, Tolbert acknowledged the
potential fit with Big Blue and listed them as one of his ideal
destinations.</p>
<blockquote>

ďTheyíve got a dynamic quarterback that puts the ball all over the field," Tolbert said (http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/giants/post/_/id/13162/tolbert-says-he-can-fill-jacobs-void). "He checks the ball down a lot to his running
backs, which is something that I think I do very well is catching the ball out
of the backfield. And then they had that 1-2 punch with [Ahmad] Bradshaw and
[Brandon] Jacobs and without Jacobs there that kind of leaves a hole in the
offense."</p></blockquote>

Tolbert named several other teams he could see himself playing for, but
continued to return to the Giants.</p>
<blockquote>

ďI would love to go up there and learn from those guys that have been to two
Super Bowls and won two Super Bowls, like Eli [Manning] and [David] Diehl,
Justin Tuck," Tolbert said. "Those guys that have been there and done that and
have that experience. That way we can get back to it.Ē</p></blockquote>

Jets</a> would be a potential fit, but that his personality doesn't exactly jive
with the "circus" there.</p>
<blockquote>

ďI like letting my play do the talking. I donít like to do a lot of talking
off the field. I like to do it in between the lines. So thatís a place that I
would think about but Iím not too sure that I would end up going there,Ē Tolbert said (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/12/mike-tolbert-doubts-hed-fit-with-the-jets-i-let-me-play-do-the-talking/). "If thatís their personality, if thatís the way

It's like Jesus read my thread about having a RB who can catch out of the backfield and made some phone calls!

A decent replacement for Jacobs, he's a hefty power RB (240+ lbs) as well. Depends on how much he wants too. Giants are not going to pay him more than they were going to pay Jacobs. That's for sure.

Don't be so sure...remember Jacobs is 30 years old. Tolbert is 26, has a lot more long term value.

Yes please. He's a very capable runner and catcher, and can be a goal-line monster.
He's at the top of my list for realistic RB free agent targets.

I stand corrected....this is the no-brainer. Get Tolbert in a better shade of Blue

Honestly I think he and Bradshaw would be an unbelievable tandem. And both can catch the ball, which will be a nightmare for opposing defenses.

I just still don't see it happening....
Decent RBs can be found in the draft & with our cap situation, obviously resigning our own guys and a average FA signing is all I'd expect.....Tolbert isn't exactly some unknown guy that's not going to have alot of offers..

I'm more for pursuing Mike Bush, but a player desiring to play for your Team is a massive plus in this day and age.

I'd be Ok with him, especially with that kind of positive attitude.

He wouldn't be the first Charger that would rather be a Giant. Lol.

Anyway, I don't think it happens guys. Reese sounds like he is comfortable with Bradshaw, Ware and Scott as the 3 RBs. And let's not forget about who else got a ring....

BlueSanta
03-13-2012, 12:05 AM
I like Tolbert, but I wouldnt read to much into this. After all, people always think they would fit nicely on a championship team. Its funny, we werent getting too many FA saying how well they would fit on our team after the 2009 season.

Vtgmenfan89
03-13-2012, 12:13 AM
Well I've always liked Tolbert, but now that he's referred to the Jets as a 'circus' and doesn't like what they do there...I love this guy!! Haha definitely seems like he'd be a good fit personality wise and his style of running would definitely fill the void Jacobs left in this offense (in terms of his recent production, not his legacy)

bubblesmcgee
03-13-2012, 01:29 AM
hed be a great fit. Love the way he runs. He doesnt just go out of bounds he turns in and hits a guy to gain an extra 4 inches. him and bradshaw in the same backfield would be lethal...if they have some blocking

I know he's a big guy, but then so were Ron Dayne and Jacobs. Does he actually run like one? Would this mean I don't have to turn away every time the Giants have a 3rd and 1? That alone would be worth a few mm/year.

Just imagining what Eli would do with a credible passing threat out of the backfield is awesome

Andre Brown hasn't done anything for years and as nice as it would be for him to step up, we can't just expect him to. Scott isn't the kind of RB who can carry the load so he's going to need a long-term "partner in crime" to assist him. As much as I love me some Bradshaw, we need to think of the future and grab us a powerful north-south kind of guy in the upcoming draft.

Neither of them has to "carry the load". We have been very successful with two and three back rotations for years.

Of course not but I'm just not understanding the sudden confidence in Andre Brown. Does he deserve a shot? sure. Should we head into next season with Bradshaw, Scott, and Brown? Sounds kinda risky to me. What I'm getting at is that we could either sign Tolbert with more experience but comes with more rust and more $ required or we could take someone in the draft to fill that BJ void instead. I suppose we won't know for sure until Tolbert signs with a team and we see the amount he wanted.

Brown is on the practice squad trying to come back from an achilles (2 years ago) and Scott was a 7th round pick.

We're not exactly stocked with talent at the RB position past AB.

It's more a case of confidence in Reese and the coaching staff. We can take the guys we have into camp and hopefully get them up to speed. They may well go after Tolbert or someone else and it's still possible BJ returns after testing the waters.

My biggest concern if their ability to pick up blitzes. We drafted them so they should be able to run.

It will depend on how important they think getting a running back in free agency is. We are less of a "running game sets up the passing game" than I can ever remember.
