No...but not because I hold a grudge. I just don't think he fits anymore now that Cruz has emerged as a big-time slot guy. I'd rather find somebody with a little more speed who can line up on the outside. With that said, if they did sign him, I can't necessarily say it would make me extremely unhappy.

He is still young and made mistakes in life so if he is healthy, then yes. No matter if he is in slot or in the outside, there is a such thing as the 4 wr set. Usiang that set wouldn't be a bad thing and more talent on the field helps a lot,

well if he is healthy, then it could be a win/win ... Smith needs to rejuventate his career and what better way for him to do that, then to play in a system he knows and with a QB that he had a great repoire with

we need a WR that can immediately be penciled in as the slot WR and that doesn't cost much

so something like a 2 year deal with an option after the 1st year like we did with TT, but obviously a much smaller contract with incentives seems like it would make sense

Do you guys honestly feel that they would move Cruz to put an injured Steve Smith in the slot? They would be stupid to mess with a winning formula. No one can cover Cruz in the slot, he's too quick and shifty

Yes, if healthy. When he was here, he was considered to be one of the best 3rd down WR's in the league. He moves the chains!

It'll likely be a 1yr deal anyway, to have that kind of depth from a healthy Smith is a + not a negative. If Nicks or Cruz get injured, Smith can fill the void and we won't miss a beat. Wish I could say the same about Hixon, Jernnigan, or Barden but I can't.

We wouldn't miss a beat??? Smith does not even have a fraction of the explosiveness that Nick or Cruz have. If he had to step in for one of them for a long period of time, we'd be screwed! I don't want him here, but if he was here the only way he would succeed would be as the third guy while the big 2 are being double teamed.

No after injury. Our offense was more dynamic without him. Ok he could get you 7 yards and a first down but with Cruz there is no need for him. As maybe a 4th wideout or depth but he doesnt play special teams. Plus he tipped to many passes into int's. He even did it to Mike Vick against us last year which helped us to win the game. Draft a wideout and also give Jerrigan or Barden a chance. If they dont ever play then why draft them and how can you see if they can even be good.

It was a 60/40 split between slot and wide duties for Cruz last year.

Cruz played great in the slot even though Eli mentioned he's probably better on the outside.

Nicks and/or Cruz both warrant double coverage, so the 3rd WR should be someone who can stretch the field. We need another sideline guy, not another slot WR.

Yes, it's a business. He's the one who is gonna look stupid anyway when he's playing for small bills and is 3rd on the depth chart (if healthy).

ACL's usually take a full year to heal so he could absolutely be back to 2008/2009 form.

I like the idea of 3 WR + 1 TE sets with Cruz and Smith running around the inside and Nicks / Barden or Bennett on the outside.

GreenZone
03-18-2012, 11:49 AM
Talent-wise, when healthy, yes.

But it's only known to a few the inside discussions that occurred last year, the actual physical condition right now, and the salary demands that would get him back.

For those personally offended by Steve joining the Eagles: get over it. Now, on the other hand, depending on how the inside communications went last year, we don't know if Steve Smith and/or his agent burned any bridges.

The Giants are right now second worst in cap position at last report, with only enough money left to take care of rookie signings. So, where is this signing money going to come from anyway?

LOL. If Arnold approached General Lafayette at a neutral location, then gave him the British military plans and surrendered, then, yes! And even if he were willing to sell those plans, as long as it fit within the Colonists' salary cap, then absolutely.

And in this case, I don't see Steve Smith having been seduced by one of those sly Philadelphia women [;)].

If I'm not mistaken, at the time that Brutus pulled that effort to undo the dictatorship it was in an uncapped year, so that analogy doesn't apply here.

I have a feeling the coaches feel Jernigan will be ready to take over the slot, and with Nicks Cruz and Bennett to cover he should get a lot of opportunities
