GIANTS SIGN FORMER REDSKINS' SAFETY CHRIS HORTON (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/03/giants_sign_former_washington.html)

"The Giants (http://www.nj.com/giants) <a href="http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/03/giants_sign_former_dallas_cowb.html">signed
a former Dallas Cowboy</a>, <a href="http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/03/jeremy_shockey_wants_reunion_w.html">have
brought in another one for a visit</a> and now have added a one-time Washington
Redskin.

The team signed defensive back Chris Horton, according to his agent Gary
Uberstine.</p>

Horton, Washington's seventh-round pick in 2008, started 15 games in his
first two seasons combined. In 2010, Horton suffered an ankle injury that landed
him on injured reserve in late October. He was released at final cuts last
season.</p>

Horton, 27, had three interceptions and a sack as a rookie. He's expected to
contribute on special teams with the Giants.</p>

"Congrats," <a href="https://twitter.com/#%21/doughty37/status/180379613250338816">Redskins
safety Reed Doughty tweeted</a> to Horton. "They have a good (special) teams
coach (Tom Quinn), too. Good luck."</p>

We've added Horton to our <a href="http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/03/giants_2012_free_agents_tracki.html">Giants
free-agency tracker</a>.</p>

Meanwhile, DT Jimmy Kennedy is saying his goodbyes to the Giants'
organization on Twitter right now, though it seems like it has more to do with a
report than the team telling him he's gone.</p>

"I will always Love The Giants for allowing me to be apart of my Hometown
team. To Win the Superbowl in New York was amazing," <a href="https://twitter.com/#%21/Kennedy73/status/180382862657331200">he
tweeted</a>. "The respect that I have for the Giants organization will always
remain high. They are a group of Classy Men. <a href="https://twitter.com/#%21/Kennedy73/status/180383209148784640">Thank you
NYG!</a>"</p>

At one point Kennedy congratulated DT Rocky Bernard because he read the team
is interested in having him return. Uberstine, who also represents Bernard, said
his client has not re-signed with the team as of yet."</p>

It's a good pick up for depth, I like this pick up he started at one point for Redskins. So special teams will be upgraded this guy have potential.

Being from and living in the DC area. I watch almost every skins game that is played as long as it doesn't interfere with big blue. To be honest, this guy is not going to start but he will be a solid contributor on special teams. He started a handful of games his rookie year and showed some promise. Got a little exposed the following year trading starts with reed doughty. Definitely not as much of a scrub as CC brown, but then again that doesn't say much. Strictly depth....and heck if Chad Jones makes the team there might not be any room for 5 safeties

I like the kid. I think he showed a lot of heart his rookie year. He's a hard hitter too

The article said he was pretty much signed for special teams depth. I think this Horton is going to replace the role of S Derrick Martin (FA), who probably won't be re-signed now. Welcome aboard!

I like this signing. Kid showed alot of promise as a rookie but has had to deal with alot of injury issues and really didn't fit in Hassletts defense when the skins had the regime change.

He's a pretty good STer and has starting experience and potential to challenge our other young guys for that 3rd safety spot.

Yet another quality signing from JR. It wont wow anyone, but it's always about value.

HA!

I don't know anything about Horton, so I won't even comment on this signing. And I hope that this doesn't prevent us from re-signing Devin Thomas.

I would hate to see Martin go. I thought Martin and Thomas were huge st players. major reasons why our st play improved.

Whenever the Giants sign someone, it's for a particular job function. Not necessarily the pos. He plays. It'll still be up to this young man to make the team. ( Maybe Jerry Reese " Heard A Who " when He signed Horton )

Thomas made one good play all season and the verdict is still out on Canty.
If I here Bermann say Horton heard a who agine I think I'll puke.

Horton started 10 games during his rookie season in 2008 and had 76 tackles and one sack. But he played in just 15 games during 2009 and 2010, totaling 34 tackles over that span due to injuries. The 6-1, 221-pound safety from UCLA did not play last season after he was released by the Redskins prior to the season.

Pretty good rookie season. If he can stay healthy he'll be a contributer
