How did he go from being cut by the Jets to being paid like a top 5 punter?

Is it the coaches and staff? Constructive locker room?

Lock him up!

...With apologies to Matt Dodge.

This is great news.

I like the 5year deal; it shows commitment to the hard work and great play by Weatherford last season.

what hurt him with the jets was his run of 18 yards on 4th and 19 from his own 13 yard line..very dumb move

I think everyone notice since we heard MVP talk for a punter. Dude killed it in the post season and stunk it up for the jets sb run

We should all remember how vital it is to have a good punter. We were spoiled by Feagles. Congratulations, Weatherford!

one can argue that he was a major factor in us winning the championship game against the 49ers...and the superbowl.

thank god he have him locked up for the next 5 years

Weatherford may be a punter but he was crucial last season and there was a huge difference on special teams with him rather than Matt Dodge. I LOVE this signing. great job by the front office and Reese to get this done. 5 years no worries good bargain and he's "young" because punters can play for a long long time. NICE JOB!

Now go get Tolbert.

Best news I've had all week. It's pure pleasure watching him pin teams back. He saved our a** in the SF game by collecting that poor snap on the field goal attempt. He's also hilarious and a great Giant!

This better than I expected...if I understand this right he is costing us only $755,000 against the cap this year...Huge savings = almost $2,000,000 to use toward signing Goff, etc.

Rex's wife got jealous after he started referring to Weatherford as the golden foot

Glad he is locked up. One less thing to worry about on STs. We know he is capable of changing field position greatly everytime he kicks
However how does this signing effect the cap? Is it backloaded deal to

However how does this signing effect the cap? Is it backloaded deal toHe has a signing bonus of 3.25 mil...which can be spread out through his career and I'm pretty sure he counts only $755,000 against the cap this year

One of the several players we all pretty much agree upon.

Glad he's locked up for another 5 years as well. A key player that turned one of the team's weaknesses going into the season to a strength.

Will post exact contract details when available.

My favorite signing of the off season so far -- extremely happy that we've got our punter locked up for the next 5 years. It's like Feagles never left.

if giants had steve or a better punter than dodge we might be going for a 3peat this season..one game against eagles gmen would have 2nd seed in '10..theyd of played seahawks, then either eagles or chi at home, and bad steeler team in sb..that would have been an easy rode to sb victory

Ah yes, I shall miss hearing about him being turned around because he couldn't kick into the wind during practice.
Seriously, if you still want Matt Dodge after Weatherford's performance last season, something is wrong with you.

It's nigh on impossible to improve on Weatherford's Super Bowl performance. His play is a massive reason why the Giants won that.

It wasn't just one mistake... it was one colossal screw-up. TC told dodge specifically NOT to do a line drive before sending dodge out there. And yet that is exactly what dodge did. It was caught by djax between the hashes. It's not just a mistake, it's "can't follow basic instructions". Honestly I could have punted the ball better than that. And I can't punt for ****...
