BREAKING: PRINCE AMUKAMARA HAS OFF SEASON SURGERY (http://www.bigblueview.com/2012/3/18/2883129/breaking-prince-amukamara-undergoes-offseason-surgery)

"After spending most of the 2011 season on the sidelines due to a fractured
metatarsal in his left foot, which required surgery, <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/130895/prince-amukamara">Prince
Amukamara</a> has gone under the knife, again. The "Prince Of New York" showed
up to an autograph session in New Jersey today hobbling on crutches and sporting
a large walking boot cast on his left leg.<div class="entry-body">

Amukamara explained that he underwent surgery, recently, to help his foot
heal quicker. If his foot has not fully healed from the injury sustained in
August of last year, that could mean that his return to action was entirely
premature, which may or may not be the reason for the latest surgery.</p>

Amukamara was the New York Giants (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/new-york-giants)
first round pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. Prince was a highly regarded athlete in
the '11 Draft class. His presence was expected to add a tremendous amount of
depth to the Giants secondary. To date, Amukamara has not been able to live up
to the expectations of his coaches and fans because of the nature of his injury.
Undergoing another surgery, for an injury which has already received surgery,
does not sound like encouraging news. The extent of Amukamara's recent surgery
is unknown.</p>

Is this good or bad news for the New York Giants? Well, with the possibility
of Aaron Ross (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/16782/aaron-ross) not
being re-signed, <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/34498/terrell-thomas">Terrell
Thomas</a> coming back into the fray and the questionable health of the Nigerian
Prince, Amukamara's role is anybody's guess."</p></div>

Why wait so long? Is my only concern.

Don't understand why they wait so long to do some of these procedures?

If this cuts into any of his camp that's going to suck.....

It has only been like a month and a half since the Super Bowl. Maybe he was sore and waited a few weeks to see if it got better.

Better now than in a couple of months.

Hopefully we can resign Ross.

Doubt they resign Ross because of this unless it was something serious we don't know about.

for now I'm hoping it was just something to help him be 100% for the pre season so he can start this year.

He didn't seem in pain at the parade although that may have been the adrenalin getting him by.

Until we know better, we should assume the medical staff did the procedure to speed up his recovery and not to make him worse.

Is it the blood spinning procedure? Platelet rich blood injected to speed up healing?

Is that the same thing Canty did for his hamstring a couple of years ago?

The biggest issue here will be how much it hinders his off-season training. He didn't have any last season and came into the fold during the seson and had to learn on the fly. His career progress is starting of slow. If he is the talent and athelete he was billed to be then he should overcome these issues and be productive this season. By the sounds of it, the procedure was routine and without the pressure of playing-time, he should be able to get the proper healing time and a gradual training load to lead up to the season and as long as he keeps his focus on learning the position, he should be fine for the season.

Seriously... At least last season we waited until preseason to put a bunch on IR. Every year it seems to get worse and worse. Hopefully he will be back along with Austin, Hixon, Thomas, Goff, Johnson, Tryonect...</P>

i don't feel this is that unusual ... he healed to the point where he could play thru it, then had the surgery in the offseason ... yes, it is a concern as any serious injury is for any importantplayer, but hopefully he is ready to go week 1 ... he does have many months to heal</P>

i'm sure it was the right decision, now let's hope for the best</P>
