Crazy to me that they made the NFC championship and basically have let their QB go without making sure they wrapped up Peyton. Not to mention Peyton is an aging QB with questionable longevity. Who knows what Alex Smith could have developed into. With some more pieces around him Smith may have developed. They really have gone all in in San Fran, if Peyton goes to the Titans they potentially become irrelevant in the NFC.

Alex Smith is nothing special. The fact that he had the least amount of attempts of any 16 game starter is not attributed to his success, the offense they ran screams hiding the QB.

They have a rocket arm and mobility on their bench if they lose out on Manning and Smith and he has two vertical threats in Manningham and Moss, an elite TE, and a solid possession receiver in Crabtree.

Maybe even sign Matt Hasselbeck if Peyton goes to Tennessee.

Pretty sure Manning and Smith share the same agent, so Smith talking with Miami could be a sign that Peyton's about to become a 49er, or just a leverage move to up the offer in Denver.

Tennessee's already thrown everything and the kitchen sink at Manning to get him to go there so...

Was really hopingPeyton wouldgo to Miami, a good freind of mine is a long-sufferin' Phins fan. Would of been nice to hear him stop whinning, lol.

They still have that Kaepernick kid they drafted in the second round last year.

He could turn out to be something for them.

Agreed. I think he's a great fit for their system.

Big difference between starting Peyton and starting Kaepernick. Win now vs. win later. At least Alex Smith had them winning now.

The better question might be, what is going on in Miami. They are about to overpay for Alex Smith just to get a QB.

And Ryan Clark implies that no one wants to go to Miami.

Ryan Clark says “no one” wants to join the Dolphins

So why are the Dolphins having a hard time luring free agents to South Beach? Steelers safety Ryan Clark has a theory.

After Clark congratulated quarterback Matt Flynn on joining the Seahawks via Twitter, one of Clark’s followers writes that “NO ONE wants to go to the Dolphins!” Clark responds by saying, “No one! To believe I almost went there but it was easy decision not to.”

Clark was referring to his decision in 2010 to stay with the Steelers in lieu of joining the Dolphins.

So what’s the issue? Clark later says, “It’s my honest opinion. Not a good guy making decisions.”

Here’s referring, presumably, to G.M. Jeff Ireland.

Clark didn’t specifically say whether other players share his opinion, but it’s implied in the “No one!” tweet.

If it’s true, the Dolphins need to find a way to fix the situation. If it’s not true, the Dolphins need to find a way to reverse a false perception.

If they lose their game manager and don't get their legend, there is going to be mass hysteria in Alcatraz land. Oh what fun we will have watching.

Sounds like Peyton's officially in with Denver. So much for Teblow. Now I hope Smith goes to the Dolphins, leaving the 49ers scrambling. Tebow to San Fran? His Christianity should play really well there. Should we start placing bets on the first media blow-up with "the Gays"?

Nope Garrard signed with the dolphins so where does that leave Alex smith. Swallow pride and resign with SF? What does Tebow do sit behind Peyton for 3-5 yrs providing he has no more neck issues.

Who knows what Alex Smith could have developed into.

What he would have developed into? Dude, this is his 8th year. Chances are better than not that he's pretty close to his ceiling by now. Not that he can't get any better, but I doubt he's going to get significantly better.

I think what he is talking about is that the 9ers were doing their best Al Davis impersonation and picking a new coach every year, forcing Smith to adapt to different systems year after year. Personally I'm not completely against that view, but I still think Smith is little more then a game manager.

And if Smith were much better than what he had shown last season, there wouldn't have been a need to change staff so often.

You can't put that all on a QB. This is a team sport. He went to the NFC championship game. No you don't have to be Joe Montana to do that, but you have to be good. With a few more pieces around him, they may have won the SB this year. It doesn't always have to be the QB that puts the team over the top.

Yeah San Fran makes me scratch my head ...most Qbs get at least a little better when in the same system for multiple seasons. As close as they came last year you would think the try and keep Smith at least close to them, (but i can defiantly see why they went after Manning) sometimes it the system a player develops in that makes hom successful or not. Maybe this is the case..

Sounds like Alex Smith Tucked his Tail between his legs and came home and signed a deal.

Unless this was this Agents plan all along. Move him or put SF in a place where they needed him if they couldnt get Peyton
