At Arizona State, the downward spiral continues for linebacker Vontaze Burfict. The one-time highly rated linebacker, who struggled through a disappointing 2011 campaign then ran poorly at the combine, looked no better today. Scouts thought Burfict looked poorly conditioned and out-of-place in drills. He was not smooth changing direction, dropped passes in drills and generally looked like a free agent compared to the first-round pick most predicted just six months ago. Several scouts said they felt bad for Burfict, who'll have another chance to redeem himself on March 30.

If hes there in the 5th round.... you grab him.

Brandon Spikes ran a really poor 40, and he is turning out to be a decent NFL Linebacker.

Brandon Spikes was known to be a heady linebacker tough, Burict the complete opposite

Spikes also produced big vs big time competition. You could doubt his athleticism based on the combine but you could never doubt his production, or his leadership.

Burfict hasnt produced, has proven less the athlete, and by all teammates and coaches account was a detriment to his team.

Many of the regulars on the draft forums(Slip, NYC, Redye, a few others and I) all said long before the combine that this kid has huge red flags. But, too many people think the cooler the youtube video the better the player.

Its too bad pointing at the QB isn't a drill at the combine. Then Burfict wouldn't be disrespected like this!

I would not speculate too much. This kid is a gamer. He may be bombing all off this work out stuff to be drafted by a better team!!! He will not get past the first round.

Was he bombing his play on the field all year for the same reason?

Completely take out all the interviews and workouts, just going purely off how he played in college, hes probably somewhere around a 3rd-5th round prospect.

I actually agree with jaxnygmen. Burfict has power, speed, and instincts good enough for the next level.

Burfict will be a top 10 selection...

In the 2012 Arena Football League Draft.

In the 2012 Arena Football League Draft. Now I'm not sure if you're serious. You think he goes top 10 overall in this years draft? At one point in time, he was a 1st round lock but damn things have spiraled out of control for this guy. I remember him and the hype of being the best LB in the nation as a HS recruit and he deserved the credit at the time. Wanted to go to USC, but academics held him back & he chose Arizona St. He may be the most physically gifted LB in this years class but there's too many red flags w/ this guy.

In what aspect? Finger pointing performance?

He is the least athletic LB in this draft.

He is the least athletic LB in this draft.Look, I'll be the first one to tell you this guys got issues (red flags) but you can't deny his talent. It's all there, he's got all the physical tools to be a great LB in the NFL. I've seen tape on him going all the way back to his days in HS, and talent like his is rare. There's no excuse for why he showed up at the combine out of shape & posting piss poor results in damn near every drill. Same goes for his Pro Day. I've said it before, his story is a damn shame. Hopefully for his sake, he can take all this negative criticism from the press & use it as motivation to change his ways at the next level. If Vontaze Burfict can somehow get his act together, he'll be a terror in the NFL.

Physically gifted?? If he showed anything at the combine, he showed that he was not physically gifted. Apparently, the only thing worse than the lack of athleticism that he showed at the combine was his horrid interviews.

He also did not play well this season, has a poor work ethic and a questionable mental makeup.

How anyone would want this guy on our team is beyond me.

This kid needs help... He is super talented and and his combine performance is not this kids best.

There is no doubt that he will be on an NFL team next year, but I think it is more important that he is on a team with a solid foundation and a team that has a core group of veterans. A locker room like the Giants have, could be just what this kid needs. Starting from the ownership down, there is a great deal of structure, professionalism and a standard of excellence that only a few teams can say they have. This kid needs discipline, guidance and mentors.

Its far more than his combine performance. Hes lazy, out of shape, blames everyone else for his problems, and he just plain ISNT a good football player.

The CBS Sports draft boards have him dropped to between the 5th and 6th rounds now.

Id take a shot on him with a 3rd day pick, maybe the 6th or so. If Herzlich went undrafted, I could DEF see this kid going undrafted as well and if thats the case Id ink him.

The only way he's gonna make it in the NFL is if he gets under a team with solidarity and a strong coaching staff just like us. If he gets drafted by a team like Miami, Jacksonville, or one of those kinda teams he'll be playing in Canada in no time

Brandon Spikes ran a really poor 40, and he is turning out to be a decent NFL Linebacker.

The difference is that Brandon Spikes lacked athleticism this kid doesn't he could well have ran a 4.5 40 I'd say if he put in the work some of the other guys put in.

I think this guy showed up at the combine without doing any work what so ever since the season ended.

To me that is a much bigger red flag than spikes' lack of speed.

After saying all that you never know the guy could turn out to be a very good player if he gets to work.
