Round 1. Pick 32

New York Giants trade 1st to St. Louis Rams for their 2nd (Pick 39) and 4th (Pick 97).

I believe that the Browns will select Blackmon at Pick 4, leaving the Rams to take either Claiborne, Richardson, or Reiff. This still leaves the Rams without a decent receiving option. One possibility that could present itself is that Coby Fleener and Stephen Hill both will be available at 32 but they have interest in both prospects. Due to the recent Martellus Bennet signing, selecting a TE might nor occur and since we have no immediate need at WR, we'll likely go mid round there as well. This trade lines us up for the following prospects:

1. Doug Martin (RB) / Stephon Gillmore (CB) / Kendall Reyes (DT)

2. Dropped prospect - Mark Barron (S)

3. Round 2. Pick 39: Tackle / Running Back / Tight End

4. Doug Martin (RB) Need for depth

Outside of Bradshaw, we have no one else to be confident in at this position. Ware? He's just been a warm body for us on the depth chart who can do decent pass blocking. Brown? Former practice squad guy that you can't really rely on to become a star. Scott? He has a case of the fumbles this past season but he has potential. Still, we need better talent regardless. Martin offers the Giants a receiving/screen type of RB who is also powerful between the tackles. The only knacks in his game are not having elite speed and being a bit raw in pass protection. This depends a lot if we end up resigning Jacobs. If we do, I'd select someone else.

I agree but here's my question, whats the break down value of a 32 when going into the second round? are we short changing ourselves with a extra second and a 4th can we get more for a 32 pick?

there is a numerical value for picks right? trading down for more picks is a very good idea and i co sign it, but i would want more than a 2nd and a 4th. is there anyone else out there you think can offer more? or is this the absolute value of a extremely late 1st round pick

This is the Value Chart (http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/Value-Chart.php/) most people refer to and it actually has us coming out with more value from that trade but honestly, the new CBA makes it hard to determine a clear value. Getting the Rams 39 (2nd from Skins) and 66 (3rd) wouldn't be fair on their end just to move up 7 selections so that's why I went with the 97 (4th). The Rams have the first 4th round selection anyway so it's basically a late 3rd rounder.

1. Stephen Hill, Devon Still, Rueben Randle
2. Dropped. Luke kuechley
3. Tackle, Wr, MLB
4. I would trade down if randle hill still and keuchley(m praying he does drop to us, probably a pipe dream but stranger things have happened)are off the board and nobody with incredible value drops all the way down to us. But I'm pretty sure some one we like will be there.

Cool so out of those four who do you pick if their all still available at 32?
whats your case for Keuchley dropping? i think most boards have the eagles taking him, and while it would pain me for them to get a guy like him its hard to see him available past 20 whats your reasoning?
and if you do decide to move down who do you think we should partner up with and what picks is reasonable.

seems like trading out of the 1st is going to be the majority option here lol

4. I would trade down if randle hill still and keuchley(m praying he does drop to us, probably a pipe dream but stranger things have happened)are off the board and nobody with incredible value drops all the way down to us. But I'm pretty sure some one we like will be there.

Cool so out of those four who do you pick if their all still available at 32?
whats your case for Keuchley dropping? i think most boards have the eagles taking him, and while it would pain me for them to get a guy like him its hard to see him available past 20 whats your reasoning?
and if you do decide to move down who do you think we should partner up with and what picks is reasonable.

seems like trading out of the 1st is going to be the majority option here lol
he's dropping for the same reason only one MLB has been signed in free agency so far. 4_3 MLB is kinda a dying position in the nfl. Its not a value pick in the first round. I'd pick Stephen hill outta the three if kuechley drops I pick him. If we trade down it should be to a team that has a pass rusher need cause branch will be gone the top of the second like first two picks. Maybe new England they have two seconds maybe this year they move up instead of down.

1) Mark Barron (SS) / Kendall Reyes (DT) / Mike Adams (OT)

2) Person dropping to us (that we would actually pick) ... Cordy Glenn (OG)

3) Needs (Rd. 1): OLine (RT specifically), DE (Osi replacement for next year), RB

4) We don't trade down.

I think the signing of Bennet, with having Pascoe and Hopkins and Ballard coming back at some point this year will mitigate our need at TE and push any pick here to later rounds.

Mike Adams' poor showing at the Combine will lower his status in many eyes (including the Giants) and he's already dropped into the second round on many boards. I keep him in my first round list if the Giants feel desperate for a RT come draft.

First round grade DEs will be gone by the time we pick (our #1 desire pick).

That leaves us freed up for a DT (in case Marvin Austin doesn't work out), depth in our seconday or a luxury pick (Stephen Hill, Doug Martin, etc ....). I don't think we go RB in the first round however (we don't historically under Reese) and Stephen Hill doesn't seem like the Giants normal type of pick to me (Combine flash).

I think we either go DT (Kendall Reyes) or add much needed depth to our defensive secondary in Mark Barron (best Safety in the draft). I think Mark Barron will be BPA and available due to injury concerns effecting his draft stock.

Finally on many live mock drafts, Cordy Glenn almost *always* falls past where he's rated. OG just isn't a sexy first round pick and if you're not getting THE best one in the draft, teams will hem and haw on that type of pick. If Cordy Glenn falls to us, we snatch him up for his versatility in being able to flex to the OT position.

Popular Concensus BPA: Mark Barron, Stephen Hill

Sigh* lmao looks like its probably going to be a trade down of the first.

no one else got ideas? so many couch GM's so little participation.

okay back to business... i will not settle for less than two second rounds or a second and an early 3rd. while it is a late first round pick it is still a first round pick, and there is a value to it.

the eagles signed ryan that might bump Keuchley down like Blu was saying.
i still feel and this is me pleading my case in hopes of changing some minds; that we are not good at TE, are we serviceable maybe but not solid.

Eli was short 5000 by what 73 yards bringing in Fleener would definitely increas that and also increase his TD's by 4-6 and reduce his interceptions. he would be the over the middle security blanket eli needs and or missed when shockey was here minus the prim a-dona antics. Everything we've heard from bennett when he played for the Cowboys was Unmotivated, Lazy, unfocused. these generalizations of his character do not sit well with me.

yeah we got him on the cheap to bring in and hope that the change of environment will do him justice; with his athleticism if hes determined he can be good for years down the line, but thats a 50/50 proposition right now. and look at this, say he does pan out and is an important piece of the machine add fleener and we can execute 2 TE sets with cruz and nicks on the outside. Fleener is a blocker so is bennett so we can also run the ball on either side with them.

Reconsider i implore you lol

but if we do decide on trading down. personally i'm not to thrilled with Theenigma's idea of the Rams 2nd and their early 4th i think were short changing ourselves on this one.

any other suggestions ?

I just looked up trades around the 32nd area in the last two drafts for reference.

In 2011, Denver traded their 36 (2nd) to San Francisco for their 45 (2nd), 108 (4th), and 141 (5th).

In 2010, Minnesota traded their 30 (1st) and 128 (4th) to Detroit for their 34 (2nd), 100 (4th), and 214 (7th).

The trade demands you request from the 32nd spot just aren't fair for the other team. Look it up on the value chart I linked earlier and you'll see what I mean. MAYBE they would be willing to throw in a 5th as well or instead of a 4th and 5th, they will throw in a 2nd rounder from 2013 but that's probably it.

This draft has some good talent in the mid rounds like Keenan Robinson, Tommy Streeter, Nate Potter, and so forth. Dropping down from 32nd to 39th would be worth it in my book for just one mid selection but an extra like an early 5th would be icing on the cake.

I'd be fine with Fleener if it ultimately comes down to that if more people vote that way but I still think getting additional selection in the middle rounds is the best way to go for this team.

arrgghhh damn your logic... i want to be the jerry jones mentality in all this **** whats fair greed, greed and more greed!!! lmao but i understand and your right.

okay if im down only if its the 2nd / 4th and the 5th. but i don't think that St. Louis has a 5 to give up i think they gave it to Denver. Do think miami would be willing to move up to get a QB i mean we can pimp them for a ransom.. got a couple of teams before them that might go the QB route in the Early 2nd round K.Cousins and B.weeden might be there i'm thinking Tannehill might be reached by someone in the first. they have a couple of 3rd's a 4th anda 5th not saying we get all that but they have more picks to negotiate with.

i just wanna see all angles before i sign off on this, im really diehard on Fleener but i understand if it would be better for the organization to move out of the first round

I'd be down for getting the extra fifth and second and trading down and grabbing Doug martin and bobby massie then trade up in the third to get Greg child's with that extra fifth, BC we already have an extra fifth I think(compensatory). Fourth get ladarius green or demario Davis. With the two fifths get Brandon brooks and Justin bethel. Rd six kelcie McCray, rd seven Julian miller
So it'd look like this
2.a. Doug martin
2.b. bobby massie
3. Greg child's
4.ladarius green or demario davis
5. Demario Davis or Brandon brooks
5.b. Justin bethel
6. Andrew datko or kelcie McCray

Miami is a possibility but 39 to 42 could kick out some potential prospects and I could see Doug Martin possibility being off the board. Also, the just signed Garrard to compete with Moore so you have to wonder if they are content with those two for this year and possibly have their eyes set on Barkley in next year's draft.

What about Jacksonville? They have the 38th selection and if Cordy Glenn or Mike Adams are still on the board, they could really use a good linemen to protect Gabbert.

So it would be the Giants trading their 32 for the Jaguars 38, 101, and 134.

What do you gentlemen think of that?

Round 1. Pick 32 New York Giants trade 1st to St. This trade lines us up for the following prospects: 1. Doug Martin (RB) / Stephon Gillmore (CB) / Kendall Reyes (DT) 2. Dropped prospect - Mark Barron (S) 3. Round 2. Pick 39: Tackle / Running Back / Tight End 4. Doug Martin (RB) Need for depth Outside of Bradshaw, we have no one else to be confident in at this position. I don't know if the browns will take blackmon, but i think if they don't, there completely stupid!!!lol If they take Ryan Tannehill, i will just continue to laugh at them as a franchise.. Blackmon has a chance to be a Larry Fitzgerald/Andre Johnson type impact WR, and u just don't pass on one of those, for a guy who i believe is a 3rd rd prospect, in Tannehill... </P>

Anyhow, i like the trade with St louis that u chose, and i would be so down with that.. U still have a chance to get the player you were gonna take at 32 anyways, and worst case scenario, your getting a guy when u drop down that u could certainly make a arguement to why he's better then whoever got taken at 32 anyways... So i'm going with your Trade which lines us up with these prospects...</P>

1. Andre Branch DE Clemson/ Doug Martin RB Boise St/ Amini Silatolu G Midwestern St.</P>

2. Dropped Prospect- Peter konz C Wisc- I just think sometimes teams under value C's, and Konz could possilby slip </P>

3. RD 2/Pick 39- TE/RB/Oline</P>

4. Doug Martin- This kids a complete back, and also can return kicks if need be, and with jacobs gone, we could use another back to challenge Darrell Scott and whoever else is there at the positon going into the season..</P>

I Dont remember the giants ever trading out of the first.
but the community mock is not about what we think the giant's would do
its what we would do if the decision was ours, and the negoitiaons amongst each other to come to a common ground
I agree though i rather not trade out of the first i still think there is value at 32 that's drops off going into the later rounds
but it's a majority rules thing and if trading down is the majority
i rather trade with the JAGS for their 2nd 4th and 5th.</P>

but Kruunch if you can get other people to agree with your pick you only need two people to over rule the trading down.
Fleener is my guy, i think people are skeptical of him cuase he didn't run the forty at the combine some people are even saying
hes as slow as 4.7-4.8 I Think he surprises all at his pro day. pro style ready, can block, can be an asset to running downs and is an upgrade to the line as well, the eagles got good outside Corners we need someon to exploit their weakness which is the middle, same with Cowboys. we gotta win the division gentlemen Fleener helps us do that.</P>

TheEnigma
03-21-2012, 05:13 PM
I like Fleener but I see a guy like Doug Martin who is the best all-around weapon in this draft (exception of Richardson) that can benefit our offense in so many ways.

Power running game to pound the ball and tire the defense? Check

Ability to perform screens (that none of our RB's are good at) to neutralize pass rushes? Check

Receiving threat from the backfield or slot like Ray Rice or Tiki? Check

Both Fleener and Martin are a bit raw in pass protection but the latter already has the build for it and just needs coaching. Fleener's current blocking isn't going to cut it plus he does need more mass to add.

Doug Martin doesn't have elite speed but we already have Scott who runs a 4.3 to be the change of pace back.

This pick also helps protect Eli better since we need to get better at running the football not only with linemen selections but a better backfield as well. We would be screwed if we lost Bradshaw to an injury. We proved last year that TE isn't that big of a deal with Eli making Ballard look good.

Getting more balanced on offense makes us less predictable and takes off some of the heat on Eli and in turn, less chance of him getting injured. That San Francisco game was great but we can't afford to allow that to happen too many times.

Don't get me wrong. I think Fleener is a great prospect and good kid but there are other TE's further down the draft you can develop to bring the same skillset he has at the moment.

There's also good RB's as well but most of them would fit better in a committee system or only bring one thing to the table.

Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech

6'4", 215lbs, 33 3/8" Arm Length, 9 3/8" Hands

40 YD Dash: 4.36 Sec

Bench Press: 14

Vertical: 39.5 Inch

Broad: 133.0 Inch

3 Cone: 6.88 Sec

20 YD Shuttle: 4.48 Sec

60 TD Shuttle: 11.43 Sec

Overview:Hill is an early-entry junior receiver out of Georgia Tech who started consistently for the past two years and was the sole deep threat in a run-first offense. He has great length and an outstanding catch radius, which along with his speed makes him a serious deep-threat option in the NFL. He has a thin frame and will be hurt by the fact that he ran a very basic route tree at Georgia Tech, and teams won't be able to utilize him for much more than go routes at this point in his career. He is a splash player who was No. 1 in the nation in yards per catch; he has fourth-round value based off his all-around body of work but could impress a team with his size and speed enough to ascend significantly throughout the pre-draft process. If the rest of his game can catch up to the ability he shows in the deep passing game, Hill could be the sleeper of this year's draft.

Enigma's thoughts: Even though he's very inexperienced with his route tree, this team has plenty of depth so that he doesn't have to be rushed onto the field the 1st game of the season. He's a great run blocker, has elite speed for the position, and great height that he can use to his advantage against cornerbacks. This also gives us a little more leverage when we have to deal with the contracts of Nicks and Cruz in the future.

Rd2. Bobby Massie, Bobby Wagner, trumaine Johnson, lavonte David.
Dropping Lamar miller/Doug martin
Same story as keuchley basically rbs are a dime a dozen in this league which is why so many are still unsigned in free agency. Lamar miller has technique issues(runs to high) and Doug martin has size concerns( even though I think he's gonna be elite)
Needs tackle MLB running back and safety
The pick. Unless the two stud running backs are on the board the pick should be massie he could potentially be an elite right tackle once he sorts out some of his technique issues. Massie sits the year unless he beats out brewer and irons out his technique. Brewer plays right tackle this year and shows us what he's got, if he performs admirably next year maybe he moves to the blind side and massie takes over the right side and we got our bookends for yrs to come. Also if beatty steps up and builds on what he was doing last year wed have excellent depth at the position with three potential starters.

@rainierjef: I always approach mock drafts from the point of view of what the Giants would do over what I would do personally. Otherwise it just feels like an unrealistic wish list to me. This is my personal point of view, not one I think others should hold to necessarily.

Having said that and with Stephen Hill as our first pick ... Round 2 ...

Picks) Amini Silatolu (OG) / George Iloka (FS) / Chandler Jones (DE)

Person Dropping) Dwayne Allen (TE)

Needs (Rd. 2): OLine (RT specifically), DE (Osi replacement for next year), RB

Trade Option) We don't trade down.

With our first pick being Stephen Hill we need to seriously start minding our Oline issues and I think the 2nd round is rich in Oline prospects. Amini Silatulo is just an immense physical speciman which the Giants love. After him, you also have Bobbie Massie and Mitchell Schwartz who are also big athletic guys. However if the Giants decide not to spend high on their Oline, I think they either add needed depth to their secondary in the best FS in the draft (Iloka) or prepare for an Osi-less future down the road with Chandler Jones (DE).

Dwayne Allen, considered the best TE in the draft mere weeks ago had a less than stellar Combine and his stock continues to fall. Fleener is rated higher now and I think Allen continues to fall in a draft weak in elite TE talent.

Finally, there is a big drop off in running backs (another need of ours) between the early second round (Lamar Miller) and late in the round (Isaiah Pead). I think the Giants look at value and position here and pass on RB here and will grab one in the 3rd or 4th rounds.

BPA at this pick may very well be Dwayne Allen if he falls this far, but we pass on him for much greater value at TE later in the draft.

P.S. - After this round, I don't think we need to list players who are dropping imo.

P.P.S. - I didn't mention Mohamed Sanu but he's working out for the Giants this week. This could very well be our second pick in the draft (which means Reese may be thinking of going a different direction in the first (i.e. no Stephen Hill)).

You didn't come off like that at all. I was actually toying around with doing a side by side mock of "wish list" vs. "realistic list" to see what the differences would be.

Barring the Manning trade, the Giants don't tend to move around their first 3 picks (certainly not the first 2). If movement is done at all, it's usually some low end moves with the 4th-7th picks. We generally tend to be an island for the most part in the draft however.

And the strength of this draft (supposedly) is in the 2nd-3rd rounds. Why would we want to trade out of either?

As for my personal preference ... our track record (under Reese) with first round picks has been virtually perfect (Prince, JPP, Nicks, Phillips, Ross). Aaron Ross, a starting CB who just signed a large deal with Atlanta has been our worst first round draft pick under Reese so far. That's pretty amazing.

Accordingly our second round draft picks have been equally impressive (Austin, Joseph, T2, Steve Smith, Beatty, Sintim). The only mistep here so far has been Sintim and a large part of that is injury related. So i"m ok with their second round philosophy as well (i.e. our interests coincide).

Yeah had Jef stated to go with what the Giants are thinking, I would of selected one of the DT's that would of dropped instead. No biggie though really.

I like Silatolu myself but isn't his stock on the rise to the early 2nd and mid 2nd now? Probably due to his versatility and slight possibility of being able to play tackle in a pinch.

This round is a bit harder than I thought it would be so I'll have to think more on this and come back later.

Round 2 Pick 63

1. Bobby Massie RT / Trumaine Johnson CB / Chandler Jones DE

2. Kevin Zeitler OG - With Silatolu's stock rising, it's possible that Zeitler suffers because of this. More of a technician than an athlete, he doesn't have as much upside as Silatolu or Osemele.

3. Tackle / Runningback / Tight End

4. Bobby Massie, RT, Ole Miss - All we have at right tackle at the moment is an unproven Brewer and an aging, worn down Diehl. Though he's a bit raw and has gotten by on his strength alone at the college level, I'm confident that our coaching staff can make him into an elite right tackle and help get our running game back on track. Reese mentioned last offseason that Brewer has left tackle feet so that had me thinking in the event that Beatty is injured once more or just fails to impress, Brewer could be our guy on the left side while Massie takes the right side.

Agreed with the moves happening around the league, BGE going to cincy, Bush to the bears and now Fleener doing what i thought he would, that changes the entire dynamic of the first and ultimately domino effecting the second round.</P>

Sigh i see on ever board most of the top OG/OC are gone by mid 2nd round i think the only good thing i see is Phillip Blake and Michael Brewster might be there at 63; but do we need another center? with the commitment to Baas and a full off season to learn how to run block smfh i dont think so. </P>

Couple with the fact that were probably going to move Diehl over to RT with Brewer also figthing for that spot in the offseason, and beatty coming back i have this strange feeling and this might only ber me but i don't see us targeting OL in the second round or even the 3rd call me nuts but i think they feel we have the pieces to build a solid O-Line with a full offseason of them getting into a rythm.</P>

Now Does it fall to BPA fellas? Maybe! but there is a drop off in OL talent after pick 61 cause the 9ers are going to try to replace Adam Snyder with a Guard. </P>

I thought Zeitler would be there or even Silatolu, but most mocks i see have them gone by mid round. were possibly looking at Rishaw Johnson for G's or Nate potter for OT's. </P>

this is all based on a couple of pro Mock's i've seen. </P>

this round is mind racking its going to take some time to come up with some realistic prospects at 62 i think i have Miller Dropping only cause of the Running back dime a dozen rule i had him being picked up by Cincy but like i said earlier they might go a different route for the BGE pick up as well as the Bears. </P>

Kruunch your right we won't do potential dropped prospects after this round. this might look crazy but bare with me i have an explanation. </P>

Round 2 </P>

1. Doug Martin RB Boise State/ Brandon Boykin CB Georgia / Bobbie Massie OT OleMiss </P>

2. Mychail Kendricks OLB/ILB Cal </P>

3. RB / OT / CB, S </P>

4. Doug Martin RB Boise State. </P>

I also see Lamar Miller Dropping as well and Mohammed Sanu. Why did i choose Martin over miller? i feel Martin is more of an every down back than miller. Why didn't i go the obvious OT route, well i think we're as well as myself jumping the gun on the O-Line. they didn't have an offseason together to get that rythm together, plus Petrus flashed a little, Boothe has shown that he can handle a starting role as either Guard or center if he sures up his snapping ability. we got Beatty coming back before he had PRK surgery. and with the RT position while i understand there is need for concern we still have Brewer who the staff and fans like a lot and Diehl who's ability now might not be suited for guard or LT but might be right for RT. </P>

I think its time to upgrade the Skill positions, we need an every down back. </P>

I don't think either Silatolu or Martin will be available at 64 personally but if I had to choose one, it would be Martin.

We already have 3 good guards in Snee, Boothe, and Petrus. It's one of our stronger positions and it's possible Silatolu could sit on the bench for 2 years or maybe even longer. Coughlin seems to have a thing about sticking with his veterans until it's obvious as day light they are no longer good. I just don't think this is the year for us to look at Guard unless one drops down to us for great value.

Agreed, honestly if were looking at online with should either be a clear as day great LT prospect that falls to us or a extremely good RT. as an insurance incase Brewer and deihl doesn't pan out. then also i'm going of the fact that these guys didn't have full off-season of work so i'm hoping that changes somethings.

you guys really don't see martin dropping?

it's a copy cat league and everyone is looking at the giant's as the blue print, their going to want to get the DE's the in the box safeties and corners, thats the only reason i see Barron probably going in the first round late, I wouldn't be surprised if its the cowboys or eagles that take him. everyone wants to defend against the pass, and everyone wants to build their passing attack so WR's are going to be spread thin by the time we come to pick in the second. this is all speculation as anything else at this moment is but i see a 2011 draft year this year where prince dropped all the way down to 19. i just looked at caserly's mock and he has Keuchley and fleener dropping to 32 http://www.nfl.com/draft/2012/mock-drafts/charley-casserly/90109 which is crazy to wrap my head around right now if it really comes down to those two i would be torn. this is why i feel that the league really dosen't hold the value of RB's as high as they used too anymore. i hope im right

RB's might not be as valuable as they used to be but that doesn't mean teams don't use early round selections on them still.

In 2011, 5 RBs were taken before the 63rd selection. Ingram in the late first round and then 4 others scattered in round 2.

In 2010, 7 RBs were taken before the 63rd selection. Spiller, Matthews, and Best in the first round and then 4 others scattered in round 2.

The trend I see happening now is that RB's are being pushed out of the first round but they become a hot commodity in the second round if they have every down potential. Richardson I believe will be the only round 1 selection but I see Doug Martin, David WIlson, and then Lamar Miller being selected in the early to late 2nd round in that order. Everyone has a different opinion on those three about who should be selected first but they are all worthy of round two selection.

completely agree and the way i see it.

David Wilson will go first in the second mid round then L. Miller that 40 time is just to tempting not to take a shot at and then Doug martin.

either way i think either Miller or martin might be there that's Imho

look at the the RB selections in 2010 - 2011 not a significant drop off but there is one
3 in the first - 1 in the first is crazy
then 4 in each of the second rounds
i think this year is going to look like 2011 1 in the first 2-3 in the second.

:) well put
as much as we don't want to admit it. Bradshaw might not be an every down back, not cause he doesn't have the talent its mostly cause his body ( legs ) might not allow it. we need someone who will shoulder some of the load. whether martin or miller is here at 63 i have a feeling the Giants address RB in the 2nd round some other mocks have us taking Polk.

Before i make my pick i gotta think about it but i definitely feel these guys will be there @ 95 i also had Sean Spence OLB Miami here as well. Now with him i had this idea crazy but no idea is crazy in the NFL. Make Boley the MIKE, Williams the SAM and Spence can play WILL. Put kiwi back in the dirty with the rest of the DL lol. Just a thought.

3. TBD

i'm still deciding so i'll make my pick a little later still doing some research on these guys; Want to see what everyone else comes up with.

I'll admit that I really haven't researched the prospects you mentioned, so maybe they can play.

Boley at MIKE. . . .eh, maybe if need be now and then.
Spence at WILL. . .I could see that.
Williams at SAM???? Not at 235.

And I don't understand why everyone wants Kiwi back at DE. He's doing so well for us in his current role. He's too valuable where he is (granted, only 2 downs).

I need to do some research on Senio Kelemete i don't know much about him. but i think Theenigma said it best " we already have 3 good guards in Snee, Petrus , Boothe." unless you think this guy has the versatility to be a guard as well as a tackle.

Brandon Mosely (OT) / Ladarius Green (TE) / Keenan Robinson (OLB)

With the way our draft has been going (WR first round, RB second round) we definitely take an OT here and that would be Mosely if he's available.

If Mosely should be gone (a distinct possibility as his draft stock is on the rise) the next available OT is McCants (or someone in that area) and he's the type of guy the Giants would wait until the 5th-7th rounds on. So now they go with the TE they really wanted ... a ton of value at the TE position in the third round between Charles/Green/Egenew but I think Green wins out on pure measurables.

Should the Giants wait on their TE pick, they might go with athletic phenom Keenan Robinson. A pass coverage, ball hawking OLB who can translate into an MLB in a C2 scheme in todays pass happy NFL (second best 4-3 LB in this draft imo).

Note: Ta'amu is a NT prospect ... I doubt the Giants go in that direction since they already have their run stuffer in Joseph and don't run a 3-4 scheme.

<u>Kelechi Osemele, OL, Iowa State</u>

Pass blocking: Aggressive pass blocker with NFL-caliber length and
thick frame. Plays with a wide base and locks onto rush ends with very
strong hands. Few college defenders can bull rush against his strong
anchor or get around his long arms to reach the quarterback. His pass
pro technique needs work, however, and he stands up after the snap,
lateral quickness is inconsistent, crosses his feet, and gets off
balance too easily, giving up the corner against fast ends. Lacks
recovery speed to prevent secondary rush if beaten in inside lane.
Susceptible to holding calls when reaching or being a bit
overaggressive.

</p>

Run blocking: Possesses a guard build, with a little extra girth
in the middle, and is bulldozer as a run blocker inside. Uses strong
upper body to latch onto and control any defender getting into his path.
Finishes blocks. Agile enough to down-black the tackle then reach a
linebacker waiting in the box. Will even jump towards a second target if
he sees back coming through the hole. Need to work on getting low in
short-yardage situations. Inconsistent cut blocker, more effective when
getting down to prevent backside pursuit in run game rather than
bringing down rushers on quick passes.

</p>

Pulling/trapping: Owns short-area quickness to trap, and will
negate targets in that role, but is most effective when staying in tight
quarters or moving straight-ahead off the snap. Would be limited to
hitting first target and could get in running back's way if asked to
pull.

</p>

Initial Quickness: Gets his massive frame moving more quickly
than anticipated off the snap. Good explosion from three-point stance.
Jumps inside to wall off defenders from inside lanes and is effective
taking out tackle's shoulder on zone-blocking plays.

</p>

Downfield: Lacks great foot speed to adjust to smaller defenders
but gives good effort to get to second level or further. Attacks targets
and attempts to sustain instead of just punching. Bends at the waist,
overextends while holding block in space but is generally effective due
to his size and strong hands.

</p>

Intangibles: Plays with legitimate nastiness, gets after it on
every play and will through the whistle if challenged. Smart player who
called out blitzes, has changed positions in college, and works hard to
improve every year.

</p>

Unless you guys feel he can play OT. i agree with Kruunch on this one we need OT. i think we're more than good at OG. i was thinking Mccants as well but i went with Mosley in every mock i've seen he's been there a couple of picks before ours so i don't know how much he has jumped; from what he was originally projected

Kelechi Osemele can play either OG or OT.

I wasn't crazy on what I've read and see of McCants personally. Mosley is about the lowest graded OT I would go with if you're thinking of having a guy who may start this year at any point (imo).

We run a nickle package a ton which means 2 LBers on the field. That and Boley does well calling the defense and can play both pass and run.

I honestly don't think we choose another "classic" MLB in the near future as the whole position is starting to blend into two positions ... pass rushing OLB (in a 3-4 scheme) and a classic WILL for every other LBer spot.

i have this feeling that its that reason and that alone why Casserly might be right... keuchly might drop to 32... god i don't want to hurt my brain with that decision right now the possibility of keuchly and Fleener being there at 32

****! we really need a TE too. we haven't selected on in any of the other rounds and there is going to be a major drop off in talent after green and he is slated to be there for us at that pick. i was going to look at it in the other round but if green is there i might have to think and re adjust on my decision

Is OT more important of a need than TE?

what do you guys think?

Plus we have that comp pick for the next round and even you Kruunch said Nate Potter (OT)is good value in that round.

Dont get me wrong i love mosley in the 3rd round but for a guy that wanted fleener in the first would make sense to get a TE in the second.... i gotta think about this one.

I could see the Giants going either way.

If it were my pick, I'd go with the OT. You build from the inside out.

You also have some quality at TE coming up in Egenew, Provo and Rodriquez.

Nate Potter is a decent project but he's still a year or two away at best. Mosley could be rushed in now if he had to be (imo).

I personally don't think Hill will be there at 32 or Martin will be around at 63 either.

Some team is going to fall in love with Hill's upside while there's a few teams ahead of us in the draft that need RB's more and the 2nd round is usually the time to get the top end guys.

That said, I like Ladarius Green because I feel that even though he is raw and still needs to add muscle for the position, he can still be a red zone threat for Eli in his first year. Plus, I honestly think he has a little more upside than Fleener and you get better value with him than you would with Coby at 32.

I like Mosely as well but I just like the kind of player that Green can become. We can wait on our young linemen anyway like a Nate Potter because Coughlin and co seem to be adamant sticking with veterans throughout the season. Whether it's Mosely, Massie, Potter, or anyone else, I don't see them starting at all unless an injury occurs.

me either as the days goes along towards the draft, but weirder things have happened, Prince at 19 tebow in the late first round. i try not to rule out or mark in pen any picks outside the first 5 cause its extremely unpredictable after pick 5 imho.

with that said i had a hard time deciding between Green and mosely, i really wanted fleener in the first as TE is of extreme importance to upgrade this year, but i cannot deny the need of an OT.

So it falls down to impact who will come in this year and be effective right away and that's Green. Reese has shown that they are comfortable with the vets and prospects they have going forward. and i feel that this offense does utilize its TE and with what we have im not comfortable.

Green is the 4th best TE in this drafthttp://draftbreakdown.com/rankings/te
Mosely is like the 17th best OT to me i would say hes tied for the 14th with schwartz http://draftbreakdown.com/rankings/ot

i switch my pick to Ladarius Green TE

Just a couple of noticeable names in the 4th round that are worth looking into.

tommy streeter : WR miami - Depth pick that can turn out good
marvin mcnutt : WR* iowa - same thing as streeter
coryell judie : CB texas a&m
asa jackson : CB cal ploly
keenan robinson : OLB texas
brandon taylor : SS lsu
derek wolfe: DT cincinnati
jay howard : DT florida
james michael johnson : ILB nevada
<font color="#FF0000">vontaze burfict: ILB arizona st</font> - he's falling lower but this might be the round to pick on a boom or bust player.
nate potter: OT boise - depth
<font color="#FF0000">andrew datko : OT florida</font> - Injury drops him to this round definitely worth serious consideration
<font color="#FF0000">donte paige moss : DE unc</font> - Injury as well drops him out of the late 3rd round where he was originally projected last year, worth serious consideration.

We could draft Barry Sanders or Walter Payton 2.0 and he couldnt run for 100yds behind our porous OL (in terms of run blocking). We cant fix the run game til we fix the OL. IMO Martin would be a totally wasted pick

I still dont get why people are head over heels for Hill

and we could probably get LaDarius Green in the 4th

VERY doubtful Doug Martin is there at the end of the 2nd round.

But anyways ... fourth round pick (we get two 4th round picks remember) ...

Keenan Robinson's stock is rising (he's a borderline 3rd round pick now) and Datko and Donte Paige-Moss are 6th round picks so we can wait on them ...

Choices: Nate Potter (OT) / Coryell Judie (CB) / Tauren Poole (RB) / Derek Wolfe (DT) / Chris Rainey (RB) / Janzen Jackson (FS)

We stay on the offensive side of the ball for the first 4th rounder with ...

Nate Potter (OT)

And then we go defense and go secondary depth with ...

Coryell Judie (CB)

Green, unless he adds some serious weight when he comes to the Pros, is a WR. I don't see anything from his numbers, stats that indicates a TE. Why would we take a TE that pretty much wouldn't be used for any kind of serious blocking duties at the TE spot........we all know TC's rule for TE. You block first.....then wait to see if your number is called for a passing play.

Honestly I didnt stumble upon this thread til later, but I think we're looking at the RT spot in the first 2 rounds, its really our only spot of need on offense.

We have 2 TEs (I think everyone forgot about Pascoe) that are healthy and can play just fine.

With a strong OL we can have a revolving door at RB with Bradshaw leading the way

WR could be argued for, but it seems that our coaching staff and FO is high on Jerrnigan and even Barden, hell a healthy Hixon couldnt hurt either

All that being said we only have 2 DTs who have played football in the past 2 years and we only have 3 safetys signed.

I know RBs and WRs are the 'sexy' positions but I doubt we look that way so early in the draft

i think for the same reason we drafted beckum. He wasnt a natural inline blocking TE either. I believe with coaching green can become a okay blocking TE not great but good.

Despise Green. Too, too damn small. He is a WR

Great speed, but zero quickness. And for someone who is supposed to be great at towering over small defenders and coming up with jump balls, doesnt seem to be elite in that area. Loses some battles. I'm not impressed. Hopefully the giants don't draft that guy

i dont want you to think i dont agree with what your saying but if you think of it. Being at 32 takes away all the top end prospects at certain positions most of the best RT/LT's are gone by 32 and with the way coughlin values veteran chemestry at O-Line any possible OT prospect at any round. unless for some reason kalil or martin drops is not starting this year so were paying 1st round monet for benchers?

No one has forgotten pascoe, but what has he shown you todate that hes capable of filling the role of fulltime TE? John schmelk this morning said we might not see ballard or beckum till mid to late season and thats when they're projected to start training. I think everyone had this security blanket of M.Bennett but he has not shown anything in 4 year and please dont tell me he was behind witten cause the sole reason the cowboys drafted him was cause the wanted to run a double TE offense utilizing both TE's and to be honest where most of the reps witten is probably seeing a chip then cover or double cover so bennett should of been taking advantage of his opportunities but all the cowboys fans the real ones not the idiots concur with the reports by analyst of him... Talented but lazy.and unmotivated.

Jacobs just signed with the 9ers and their not comfortable with scott ware or brown as the complementary back to bradshaw and with bradshaws injury history you.dont want to.put too much on him even if he feels he can handle the load

Well Pascoe showed me enough that he can be the next in the line of Kevin Boss' and Jake Ballards', he's not gonna be the next Gronk or Jimmy Graham but he'll be fine for us. Bennett is one of the best blocking TEs in the game, so anything we get from him in the passing game is gonna be a plus..... Itd be nice to have a game changing TE, but we dont need it

Like I was saying before, until we fix up our OL we could have Barry Sanders running out of our backfield and he would barely get positive yardage.

There are plenty of talents at OT in the draft not just in the 1st round, and dont forget just like every year there's gonna be a big name talent that plummets

rainierjef
03-28-2012, 06:39 PM
With the way eli is play i believe we do need a game changing TE. The last time we had one was shockey, but the caviat to that is eli wasn't playing near the level he is now. Add a damn good TE not just a serviceable one to this offense and i go on a limb and gurantee am increase in passing yards, TD's, a decrease in interceptions and an inproved running attack.

I agree there is Oline talent in every round but you dont want to reach either. Take the values at their respective spot to what the big board look like.

Lmafo " too damn small" lol i agree hes not your prototypical every down TE, i think he can max out his frame a little more add a little muscle and i think he will spread the middle for any team. with that said he wasn't my first choice he wasn't even in my prospect selections. i wanted the OT Mosely, but Enigma brought up a great point and the way the mock was looking for that past rounds the Drop off in TE talent was noticable. plus round 4 i think all the Good TE's are gone way before we pick.

we need a third wide out to stretch the field and I don't think jerrnigan can play on the outside he's a slot guy. Its not the sexy pick its the value pick. Wr and dt will be the value positions most likely when we pick at 32. I agree about right tackle bu twith the way this thread was structured Doug martin was the value pick. I like green I think in a couple years he could be that jimmy Graham type te, but I'm not sure the giants want that. Agree about the online we need to address it early. That being said Doug martin won't be there and we will more then likely select a lineman there.

Not necessarily but i can understand why you feel this way.
Its about adding strength or depth at these rounds
maybe the coaching staff is okay with the O-Line guys they have now you have to remember they drafted petrus / brewer a year ago. Boothe proved hes serviceable at 2 spots, their adamant on moving Deihl over to RT. and their committed to keeping baas at center.
I like anyone else would love for a Good OT in the 2nd round but it doesn't look that way imho.
DB/CB's defnitely you need to add those. where not spread thin but we have a lot of recovering players at that position.
WR you can always add more depth there we are spread thin there. due to the fact that outside of cruz and nick we don't know what we have. Streeter or Mccnutt in this round is not outside the realm of reason.
But i would like too see your prospects and who your choices would be
