OWNERS APPROVE SALARY CAP REDUCTIONS FOR COWBOYS, REDSKINS: SALARY CAP LIMIT FOR 2012 SET (http://aol.sportingnews.com/nfl/story/2012-03-27/owners-approve-salary-cap-reductions)

"NFL owners have ratified the agreement between the league and players' union that takes away $36 million in salary cap space from the Washington Redskins and $10 million from the Dallas Cowboys.

Looks like it can't be shouldered by Mara alone anymore.

It was never "Mara alone" although we've had one Cowboy's fan suggest that was the case. Is anyone really surprised that Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder would be the only owners to try to get leverage?

I know it was never Mara alone, but it was more like all of Dallas/Washington nation painting Mara as the antichrist. They pretty much shut up now which I just find funny.

Daylight and truth have a way of doing that lol

Never suggested it was Mara alone. I even acknowledged the Raiders GM
that brought it to his attention. Just felt like it was more than a
little weird that Mara headed the committee that imposed the sanctions,
and circumvented telling one of the committee's members (Jerry Jones)
about it.

Once again, Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder weren't the only two owners to
do so. Not exactly sure how the Packers got away with Nick Collins'
deal in 2010. Essentially, 40 percent of his contract was frontloaded
in 2010, just like Miles Austin's 43 percent. Austin's contract was
also only worth roughly 2.5 million more as well. On top of that, Green
Bay's total cap space topped out at 132 million... more than the cap
now, and slightly above what the Raiders spent in 2010 (who were
somewhat punished as well).

My issue was and always will be that the Redskins and Cowboys broke no rules and were punished for it. Did they try to get leverage? Absolutely. Did they obtain it legally? You betcha'. This was never a matter of competitive balance that the competition committee is trying to stand on. If it was, they would have dealt with the bottom teams that year in the same manner. This was a matter of overspending.

Still, this is not quite over. Going to arbitration.

Not exactly. 29 teams voted for two things. Punishing the Cowboys/Redskins and increasing the cap space from 113 to 120.

I'll back off of Mara a bit because he seems to have the support of other owners, but I still have an issue with the means of justifying the cap docks.
