GIANTS' TOM COUGHLIN PLANS ON HAVING OSI UMENYIORA BACK IN 2012 (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/03/giants_tom_coughlin_plans_on_h.html)

"With a possible new contract in hand next season, Tom Coughlin expects
defensive end Osi Umenyiora to join him. Coughlin told reporters he plans for
Osi Umenyiora, who has one season left on his contract at a base salary of
$3.975 million, to be back in 2012.

"I've told Osi this many times: I don't want to play without him," Coughlin
said this morning.</p>

Coughlin did not rule out either trading the speed rusher or giving him a new
contract before the start of the season. General manager has said a contract
extension <a href="http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/02/giants_are_open_to_extending_o.html">"could
happen."</a></p>

Disgruntled with his contract, Umenyiora briefly held out of training camp
last year and missed the team's first three games with an ankle injury. The
30-year-old ultimately played in nine regular season games and in each of the
Giants' four postseason games, and was a force. He recorded 9.5 sacks in the
regular season and 3.5 more in the playoffs to accumulate 13 sacks in 13 games.

But with the emergence Jason Pierre-Paul opposite Justin Tuck, the Giants may
believe the hobbled speed rusher is expendable or at least not worth as much as
he envisions."</p>
