Sounds like a tweener that Reese loves. CB / S / OLB

Maybe to try to fill the void Grant is leaving us.

Colts ERFA S Stevie Brown has signed with the Giants, Adam Caplan reports. Brown was a backup defensive back and wound up seeing playing time on special teams for Indy last season. He ended the year on IR after suffering a leg injury.

Yup, exactly the type of player Reese loves, lol.

These are the signings you get with such little cap room. The market dictates to you, not the other way around.

Versatile and young. Sounds like a character guy as well. Like the pickup from what I've read. Typical Reese move.

"Despite all of the problems with the Wolverines program the last few years, Brown was like a beacon of light. Most elite prospects are more concerned about their potential draft stock, but Brown was the consummate team player, offering to assist the new coaching staff any way he could. They took him up on that offer and made him an undersized strong-side outside linebacker in his final season."

I actually noticed him while he played on the Colts the past couple years. He is a solid kid on STs, punt coverage is stout. It makes sense, we lost Devin Thomas.

One thing is certain, reese definitely does his homework..It seems like every time we make a small signing like this I find myself saying "hmmm, I wonder if he'll make an impact next this year" and then BAM! lol

after doing a lil bit of reading on him, something tells me this is a signing due to Vick, RG3, and ROmo being in the division. *Romo not as much.

He's used to playing down at the LOS bc of the time spent at LB, but has the speed/build/ability of a DB.
Maybe he could be a great spy on Vick/RG3...at minimal, should be a good ST player

I am Michigan Fan - Stevie Brown did not do crap at Michigan and will not make our team. That's why he has not stuck with anyone yet. He was almost always a day late and a dollar short.! He may be a nice guy but he won't help us win any games playing defense. No way will he fill in for Grant.

Bet you said the same thing about Tom Brady... lol.

Some players just need a change of scenery or just some time to mature / play in the right system for it to finally click. James Harrison was cut 3 times by the Steelers, no one picked him up, then it clicked for him. You never know.

Given Reese and his track record, Ill lean towards this being a good signing by the Giants for depth / situational plays.

And this wouldnt be the first time you were wrong looking at yournameon here.

Guilty, II did want Shockey to stay in 08. Wasn't a prediction but a wish. I was a Tom Brady fan while he was in Ann Arbor. I thought he was better than the big draw Drew Henson. I was surprised he lasted til the 6th round but not surprised at his NFL performance. Stevie Brown, well I'd love for him to be a good pick up. I just haven't seen much out of him and tho I have not seen much of him in the NFL he showed me little at Michigan. But Michigans whole defense was poor with Rich Rod at the helm!

I'm still chewing on Crow and loving every minute of it. He frustrated the living daylights out of me at Michigan but has evolved into a steady reliable hard hitting bad a! One of my off the mark assessments. He was burned often at Michigan but he is shining bright as a Giant.

Oops is a polite way of saying I had my head pretty far up my *** on that one. Thanks for taking it easy on me for my big miss!
Stevie was often out of position and getting burned at Michigan but so was most of Rich Rods defense.

Nice re-thread!

I'm a big fan of holding fans accountable for our words.

There ought to be a section devoted to rethreading. It makes for a great read.

And as to Stevie Brown, it's nice to go back and read the anatomy of another great move by J.R.

IMO I don't think anyone should have to apologize for expressing opinions about a player. You expressed what you experience was seeing him play at Michigan. Its not like you are a pro scout at least I don't think so, I wonder what the Raiders and Colts are saying now.

Wasn't really trying to poke fun at the poster. I was just pointing out the fact that none of us really know much of anything compared to Mr. Reese, yet we ALL chime in, including myself.
