GIANTS' TRAVIS BECKUM: "GOOD CHANCE I'LL BE BACK BY START OF SEASON" (http://www.giants101.com/2012/04/04/new-york-giants-travis-beckum-good-chance-ill-be-back-by-start-of-season/)

"After shredding his ACL in Super Bowl XLVI, it seemed like a near certainty
that, at best, New York (http://www.giants101.com/tag/new-york/)
Giants tight end <a class="st_tag internal_tag" title="Posts tagged with Travis Beckum" href="http://www.giants101.com/tag/travis-beckum/" rel="tag nofollow">Travis
Beckum</a> would start the 2012-2013 season on the Physically Unable to Perform
(PUP) list. A more realistic view of the 12-18 month recovery period would mean
Beckum would almost certainly miss the entire year. However, the fourth-year
player out of Wisconsin had a much more optimistic outlook on Wednesday
morning.http://d1.openx.org/lg.php?bannerid=544983&amp;campaignid=255373&amp;zoneid=86 840&amp;loc=1&amp;referer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.giants101.com%2 F2012%2F04%2F04%2Fnew-york-giants-travis-beckum-good-chance-ill-be-back-by-start-of-season%2F&amp;cb=a1ebbfcf0f&amp;r_id=0a0ea6d657b2391df4dd1 d7747a7d0fe&amp;r_ts=m1yo2j

"Just seen the Doc..best news I heard in awhile!!!" Beckum tweeted (https://twitter.com/#%21/TravisBeckum47/status/187534616486354946). "Very good chance I will be back by the start
of the season!!"</p>

In some of the best cases, the recovery period for an ACL injury is six
months. If Beckum falls into that category, then he may very well be able to
return in late August or early September. However, a recovery time of only six
months following an ACL tear is quite rare. In most cases, recovery takes
somewhere between 9-12 months, with some more extreme cases taking upwards of 18
months to return to 100%.</p>

Despite Beckum's current expectations, chances are the Giants will move
forward as if he and <a class="st_tag internal_tag" title="Posts tagged with Jake Ballard" href="http://www.giants101.com/tag/jake-ballard/" rel="tag nofollow">Jake
Ballard</a> will be unavailable to start the season. They'll work to get newly
signed tight end Martellus Bennett (http://www.giants101.com/tag/martellus-bennett/) acclimated to their offensive system,
and may still add another tight end; either through the NFL (http://www.giants101.com/tag/nfl/) Draft or via
free agency."</p>
