View Full Version : The Bye Week

Ok, so, weeks 4-10 are designated BYE WEEKS, with teams being assigned a week to rest players. How exactly does this help the teams that get a week 4 BYE, and are then forced to play 12 games straight?
Wouldn't it make more sense to make Week 8 an NFL wide BYE WEEK, excluding 8 teams per year, 4 of which get a week 7, and 4 get a week 9 bye. On the bye week, those 8 teams cover each time slot. 1pm, 4pm 8pm and MNF. It would force viewership to those games, and make those games a more valuable marketing spot. The NFL could bank on week 8, and no team has to play more than 9 games in a row. IJS, makes sense to me...

Lose a week of the league year? That'd devalue every contract the league has with its promotional partners, not to mention it'd annoy the fans. Not gonna happen. The league wants more weeks, not less.

It's not Losing a week... it's simply having everyone's BYE at the same time and forcing games into the limelight... you'll still have football week 8, but you won't have as many teams to watch, making those games, and commercial airtime within them, much more valuable.

Wouldn't it make more sense to expand Thursday Night games starting from Week 2 to Week 15? Forget starting in November.... :)
