GIANTS STILL HAVE NEEDS TO FILL ON DAY 2 (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2012/04/giants-still-have-needs-to-fill-on-day-2)

"Day 1 of the NFL draft brought plenty of surprises, which left the Giants with
quite a choice at the bottom of the first round. They had already put a target
on running back David Wilson, according to a team source. But all of a sudden
there were unexpected options at receiver and offensive line.

There was
a good discussion in the war room. Giants GM Jerry Reese even made sure to use
almost all of the Giants’ allotted time just to “make sure that nobody was in
love with that spot and wanted to move up and give us the mother
lode.”

After getting no trade offers that he liked, the Giants made what
Marc Ross, their director of college scouting, called a “very easy” pick. They
were thrilled to get Wilson, the 5-10, 206-pound running back from Virginia
Tech. But there were a lot of players that would’ve thrilled them at
32.

“There were still several players on the board that we liked,” Reese
said. “But David was rated our highest player there and he was the best value
because he was the highest player there at the time and a little bit of a need
pick for us as well. So we got a combination of both. You like to get a
combination of both things.”

They have some other needs too, so it’s a
good bet that in Rounds 2 and 3 on Friday night you’ll see them take a couple of
players that fill a need. They could still use a receiver, an offensive linemen,
and maybe a tight end and defensive end, too.

The good news, as Reese
said, is there are several players the Giants were interested in at 32 who are
still on the board, giving them options as the second round begins. It’s a good
bet that Georgia OL Cordy Glenn and Alabama DE Courtney Upshaw – perhaps the two
biggest surprises to drop out of the first round – will be gone before the
Giants make their next pick (the last pick of Round 2). But there’s at least a
chance that a few other player they had high on their board could fall somewhere
near their range, such as Georgia Tech WR Stephen Hill, LSU WR Reuben Randle or
maybe even Stanford T Jonathan Martin.

A few other names still on the
board in what is shaping up as a surprisingly deep second round: Stanford TE
Coby Fleener, North Alabama CB Janoris Jenkins, Wisconsin C Peter Konz, and Penn
State DT Devon Still.

The Giants pick so late, there’s a possibility
they could all be gone by then. So here are two names to keep on your watch
list, because both have a chance to still be there: South Carolina WR Alshon
Jeffery and Clemson TE Dwayne Allen."

So no chance they like any of the names mentioned enough to trade up I guess? Lol

i'd be ecstatic with any of those players listed round 2. i was saying before the draft that the talent at rb and wr could lead to the 2nd round being stacked and an awesome talent falling to us there...really hope so. ashlon jeffery would be sick in the 2nd, two seasons ago he was perhaps a top 3 wr prospect

Here's a question.

Did the Bucs trade up right in front of the Giants to snag RB Doug Martin away from the G-men? or did the Giants have D. Wilson rated ahead of Doug Martin?

Reese said they had Wilson ranked higher.

Bob papa was just on the NFL network saying David Wilsons name was floating around the hallways picks ahead of 32...
