GIANTS' GM WEIGHING "ALL OPTIONS" ON OSI UMENYIORA (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d828b91c1/article/giants-gm-weighing-all-options-on-osi-umenyiora)

"It's the same old story, just another year for Osi Umenyiora (/players/osiumenyiora/profile?id=UME444955).

He wants more money; the New York Giants (/teams/newyorkgiants/profile?team=NYG) don't have to
give it to him, and there are unfulfilled trade rumors. Asked if the Giants
tried to trade Umenyiora during the draft, GM Jerry Reese said that "all
options" are under consideration (https://twitter.com/#%21/TheBlueScreen/status/196374203258245121).</p>

Translation: We were willing to listen. No one gave up the goods.</p>

"Our first choice with respect to Osi is that he will play for the Giants and
retire as a Giant," Reese said. "That is what we would like to happen. Osi has
been offered an extension two years in a row now. So we would still like to make
it work. Hopefully it will work out. But all of our options are always
open."</p>

It's hard to imagine Umenyiora moving on now. He's worth more to the Giants
than a future pick, unless that future pick is in the first round. No teams have
been willing to give that up for Umenyiora because they know that the
30-year-old will require a big new contract in a trade.</p>

Reese added that he has offered Umenyiora a contract extension two years in a
row and hopes Osi retires a Giant. So nothing has really changed. Expect an
unhappy but productive Umenyiora to suit for the Giants once again this
year.</p>

It's not such a bad arrangement for Tom Coughlin."</p>

Unless there is an absolute need that comes during the regular season, I'd say let Osi play out this final year.

Let's face it, Osi is not getting traded for low draft picks or a WR or CB or TE or S or RB, etc... at this time.

I think the Giants have offered around what I consider the right amount 4 years 28-30 Million, Maybe 3 years 22 something around that. Osi is probably looking for 5 years 45 Million. Of course this is all complete speculation but by looking at kiwis deal thats what I surmise.I cant see Osi getting that deal on the open market but more power to him them. Im going to miss him but the Giants just cant afford it

It may well be Osi has an inflated vision of his worth and unless he make a good faith effort to compromise he may work right here for the last year of his contract.

Interesting post. I didn't realize that he was offered that much money and/or years. If he is turning down 4 years/28 million, he is nuts. That would be like a 3 million dollar per year raise for him.

+1. I hope he retires a Giant, but at least keep him around for the attempt of the repeat.
