It's just a base salary, there are many components to an NFL contract and he restructured salary into signing bonus for cap purposes. Don't worry his bottom line still puts him way up near the top of the list.

I wish my agent could get me 8 million automatically at the turn of the fiscal year...

Back when he signed his deal it was one of the richest for QBs and worth over a 100million. Sme on here thought he was overpaid and he got too much

As a matter of fact people on here including me have been posting thin threads that he should consider restructuring to be able to resign same key players over past several seasons

So then bonuses don't count against the CAP? If that were true why don't all teams do that then the cap would never enter into the equation. Are you saying they are paying him an additional 9 mil this year under the table so to speak? That could lead to loss draft pics if GODell hears about that then.

Guaranteed money does not count against the CAP. He is getting that $9 mil whether he takes a snap or decides to go hang out and get high with Jamarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf.

Speaking of those 2, that is exactly why teams just don't throw around contracts with large amounts of guaranteed money. [:)]

Bonuses do count against the cap. They get spread out though in terms of cap hit. His bonus this year gets divided by the remaining years of the contract. Eli gets the whole bonus, but the salary cap only shows this year's portion.

Zoboomafoo

Eli recently restructured his contract specifically to reduce his base salary and overall cap hit. Any upfront money does count towards the cap, but it can be spread out over the duration of the contract. The restructure saved 6.75 mil against the cap.

A couple years ago, Eli was signed to the richest contract in the NFL. He restructured to make it friendly for the team. He is still top 3 in the league.

Player salary is base + signing bonus, incentives, other bonuses.

Players can play with $0 base salaries and their money is completely in guaranteed signing bonus like Antrel Rolle in 2010. It all depends on how the team structures/re-structures the player's contract.

Rest assured, Eli Manning will start counting around $20 mil against the cap starting next year until his contract is finished.

I can manage a team pretty damn good on madden. I'm 108-0 all time and am always under the cap. I'm probably the best coach/player/GM ever. Just sayin'. /red

I think we should be able to talk about hot babes again... If any of you easily offended a-holes read this, the ones who made it so we can't post pics of beautiful women anymore, I want you to know that I hate you. When I die, I will have access to the knowledge of who did what, and I will haunt you and your families and I will take each generations' first born. Why? because I'll be a ghost and I can do what I want.

Avg out the numbers for the life of the contract and Eli makes $16.25 million / year. Now let's all shed a tear for Eli.

My #1 son, have 2 other sons lives in Dallas & has for 35+ years & he said that Eli Manning is making 19+ mil this year & that the official 1.75mil that's being published by CAP figures against NY Giant Cap numbers is a flat out lie. I'm asking because how can they publish something as being a fact & be so far from the truth.

Is he making 1.75 mil or not. That's the 64 thousand dollar question. Does anyone out their in cyber space know the true answer or not?

Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports that Manning lowered his base salary for 2012 from $10.75 million to $1.75 million to create almost $7 million in cap space.

He's not making $1.75, he's making $9.6. Thanks to him restructuring, that figure will jump to $20 mill for each of the remaining three years of his deal. $1.75 represents his base salary and nothing more.
There's no sorcery at work here.

So will his salary on the CAP be 9.6 & not 1.75 right?

My wife just restructured my contract. She gets everything upfront, and I get no bonus.

I really didn't think this question would stump everyone out there on the message board the way it has. If his CAP salary is 9.6 instead of 1.75 then there's no way it's being reported low & that web site is totally wrong. My #1 son said Dallas was fined for spending over the CAP but NY does it every year by reporting false numbers like the 1.75 that is being reported on Eli's salary cap number.

The team can spread that 13 mil out overthenext 4 years"the amount thatgoes against the cap"....... this year he gets 1.75 base pay.... the cap hit for the 13 mil he all ready got for signing is 4,850,00 then the misc. bonus money for another 3 mil comes to a total cap hit of 9.6

bottom line he is only getting 1.47 in base pay this year... the misc bonus I'm not sure if thats earnable money or money he has all ready got.....yeah its a bit complicated and we don't have all the details really...but those numbers are right and what the team reported

Eli's base salary is 1.75 mil. The prorated portion of the signing bonus is 4.85 mil. There is a 3 mil roster bonus. His total cap number is 9.6 mil.

Before the restructuring, his cap number was 16.35 mil and his base salary was higher.

1.75 + 13 mil for signing+ 3mil roster bonus= 17.75 milfor the year not bad

base salaries are totally and completely meaningless.

He could have a 20 million dollar option bonus dependent on whether he runs over a bird with his car during preseason.

Bingo!

or if he gets injured doing a stunt on SNL in a drag costume... or tweaks his knee trying to pick up his invisible sandwhich from the floor and eating it TD dance.

The question is what were the top players at a position being paid when the contract was signed. In this case, 2009.

The contract is actually is a 6 years extension where they paid him 9.4 they owed from last year of his previous contract. Best deal going at the time.

At the time I don't think we locked him up based on how great we though he could be. I think we took a look at the market and saw there really was nothing better out there as far as an available and reasonably priced upgrade. This 2011 performance is icing on the cake.
