It allows the Giants not to commit to anything too long and to offer him a new one if they feel they wish to continue their partnership. Most likely at the end of this deal he will retire anyways. For a coach 3 years is a long time.

I was wondering who will be groomed to take over in 2015? Would it be great for TC to get to the SB in Giants Stadium in his last year?

He will be 68 when that contract expires. If he wants to stay longer I am sure he can.

Then we sign him for another 3 year deal in the future. What is he gonna do? Pull an Osi?

I think it's a great deal for both sides. TC is what, 65 right now? He got paid like he deserves to for the next few years without having to commit long term. He's getting up there in age.... I'm sure at the end of the deal if things work out well he'd be welcome to come back if he chooses to.

Yeah, it's odd when you're hoping the players don't break the coach when they pick him up in their huddles haha

It's the off-season - what can you do?

At least these are better than the "Giants should sign Colt McCoy, Brady Quinn, Dallas Clark, Cedric Benson, Marques Colston, Wes Welker" etc threads

Was a little surprised myself but if he wants another deal after his contract is up he'll get it without any thought.

It's not unusual and doesn't portray any sense of problems lurking.

He'll soon be Marv Levy status. Wasn't Marv coaching well into his 70's?

Only 3 years because the Giants don't like a lame duck coaches. No matter how long the contract they can fire him whenever they wish.

I was kidding, but seriously.. At his age, it almost is a year to year thing at this point.. That being said, I've supported TC through thick and thin and I think the job should be his until he decides to hang em up

I don't have a problem with it. It gives TC enough flexibility in case he decides he has had enough of coaching and the Giants an opportunity to re-do his contract in case he stays and continues to have the success he has.

The length of his contract has nothing to do with when he'll eventually retire.

You want us to give him a 5-7 year deal??

It's perfect for TC
