ELISHA NELSON "ELI" MANNING

Please tell me this is not true....please

I read this one wikipedia (yea i know, not the most trustworthy site) but the verification process has gotten better for them over the years.

Here's the excerpt::
"Elisha Nelson "Eli" Manning (born January 3, 1981) is an American football quarterback for the New York Giants of the National Football League. He is the son of former NFL quarterback Archie Manning and the younger brother of Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning. Manning played college football at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) after attending prep school at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans. He was drafted as the first overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers and immediately traded to the New York Giants, who in return gave up a package highlighted by fourth overall selection Philip Rivers."

It's an alternate spelling to Elijah.
It's also his father's, grandfather's, and great grandfather's first name. So it's a family name

Are you objecting to the fact that "Eli" is listed as a middle name? His name is not Elisha Nelson Eli Manning. It's Elisha Nelson Manning. He doesn't have Eli as his first and middle name. When a name is in quotes, it's a nickname.

I suspect the OP is upset that it could also be a girl's name? So are a lot of names - Peyton for example.

Elisha is a Biblical name. it's Archie's middle name.

Correct. Elisha was Elijah's disciple in the old testament. The pronunciation of both names is very similar.

Because the OP just found out today what most of us knew on draft day of 2004. Not his fault though. I'm not even going to mess with Tiki Barber's full name.

Do not confuse Elisha with Elijah. There are actually two different biblical prophets in the Old Testement: Elisha was the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah; he became the attendant and disciple of Elijah (1 Kings 19:1619), and after Elijah was taken up into the whirlwind, he was accepted as the leader of the sons of the prophets, and became noted in Israel. He possessed, according to his own request, "a double portion" of Elijah's spirit (2 Kings 2:9); and for sixty years (892832 BC) held the office of "prophet in Israel" (2 Kings 5:8). So Eli is named after "E-lish-ah" and not "E lie - jah".

How long have you been a Giants fan? This has been well known since Eli was drafted. Back then, articles would mention Tiki calling him Elisha etc. I just find it odd that this is news worthy around here considering it's such old info.
