the annihilation and subsequent burial of one brodney depaul pool at the hands of ahmad bradshaw during the aforementioned jets game. ill. smh........cruz and matt stafford got the shaft big time on the probowl. how does 1500 receiving 5000 passings yard NOT qualify for the probowl? oh well, id rather have the strap than be named to a team that i wasnt gonna play on anyhow, at least in vc's case.

Osi's clutch strip sack in GB. He may be the Deion Sanders of DEs when it comes to the run, but he's a clutch pass rusher.

Also, Eli firing it to Manningham on 3rd in SF.

I'm giving you the Buck commentary rather than Papa because I love how he actually broke monotone on that. (Also he identified JPP a lot earlier than Papa did; it's probably the only play in existence in which I prefer Buck's commentary over Papa's)

Eli's throw to Cruz in week 17 when he spun out and launched it downfield. One of the best improv plays I've seen from this team.

Yeah thats up there. Too many to just pick one for me so heres some that stick out:

Jpp fg block. Cruz td vs nyj. Cruz td at philly over mandi...heck both cruz td that game. Tucks sack fumble on romo last week of reg season. Td to mm in nfccg. Two of elis passes where his feet platform were sideways to ballard vs gb in the playoffs and eli to cruz in nfccg. Osis strip vs gb playoffs. Td to mm vs atl. Nicks two huge yac td in playoffs. Hail mary vs gb.jpp vs no tackle on grahm on fourth down fake fg. Weatherford pinning ne deep in sb that led to anothee fav play tucks safety...

I could go on all night ill just end it with elis jump throw vs dallas and the throw where one of his legs was wrapped up and he couldnt step into the throw but fired a rocket and the record breaking fourth qrt td pass to nicks...and the run play vs gb that setup the hail mary and the run play where eli threw a block

Seriously. It's hard to believe that with all the great plays we had that we were only 9-7.

I don't think this play was mentioned, but how about Cruz' tip drill, one-handed TD against Seattle...

Or Nicks' gamewinner against Arizona...

It was a surprise bonus for me at my age. I figured '07 was the last I'd see. I always hope, but we didn't look like a superbowl team until we came together at the end. I'm a believer that you need a good, mature OL in order to win the Bowl. Last season's OL was the worst we had in the past 35-40 years. 9-7 wasn't a surprise with that line. Then we got hot, came together, and Eli and his WR's and our D came together and gave us the party
"86 was the best we ever had. They opened holes for Joe Morris that were 10 feet wide.

I really changed my whole philosophical views on football after this year. I always felt that games were won in the trenches, if you were strong there, you were a strong team.

Now, I'm convinced that a top caliber passer can compensate for almost every offensive deficiency, and that even with strong trenches, you can't win it all without a top QB.

I remember hearing Parcells hint at his regret on passing up Matt Ryan, and I always wondered why since he had landed maybe the best LT in football, and now it kind of makes sense (even though Ryan isn't the most special QB I've seen). What Eli did this year was nothing short of spectacular, he completely provoked a change in mindset on my part, and I couldn't be happier.

Drez, I agree that it's hard to believe we only went 9-7, but I think we are due for some serious winning this year. And well said Zim, I agree with how your previous view on winning football was skewed a bit by this seasons success.

Agreed, with everything you said. Having a top caliber QB is the difference in today's NFL. That's why we went to the SB and SF didn't.

If we can remain relatively healthy, I'm thinking we can pull out 11-13 wins.

The 9-7 was more a reflection on our strength of schedule... we weren't just a team that "got hot at the right time", we were a team that was forged in the fires of Dallas, San Fran, and New Orleans, and tempered in the ice of Lambeau and Foxborough. When I saw that blocked FG against Dallas right after overcoming a 12-point deficit, I knew the team had something special. When I saw the 99-yard TD reception, I knew the team was playoff bound. When I saw Eli deliver the greatest performance of his life in the title game, I knew that he was hands-down ELITE.

You're absolutely correct. They were good in '07, and with Tiki earlier in '06. The '86 line was together for years too and evolved into the '90 line. Both '86 and '90 were better than '07-08, but they were close. Guys get familiar and develop a nice chemistry. When they start getting older it's hard to replace the parts a year at a time without wholesale chages. Hopefully this crew will develop some stability and the preocess of having a good line will come together again. I don't want to live with being last in rushing again. We're probably the 1st SB victors that were last in rushing.

I like watching Diehl giving it his all against Justin Smith here. Running after the three defenders on their way to Eli, and then beginning to chug up field to start blocking for his receiver once he sees his quarterback gets the throw off.

Yeah, the full-stop in the second Dallas game was a 2pt conversion off of a DJ Ware shotgun draw. That play basically sent the team to the playoffs.

I so wanted that play to feature in a decisive moment in the Super Bowl, just to shut everyone up.

That play seems to have slipped through the cracks somewhat - probably because it wasn't a "star" that scored it.
