Evidently they all were positive that Ballard would clear waivers. Said they should of just left him on the 90 man in hindsight. TC and JR very disappointed. Here's the link.......

BB also weighed in... Write up talks About how their are unwritten rules when a player is waived to make room... BB said everyone knows that 31 teams have a chance to take him and everyone knows that...wow

disappointing, but life moves on.

Lets not look at Ballard as being a star TE. He was a good player, but he is replaceable.

The New York Giants (http://m.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?teamAbbrev=nyg) took a calculated risk of waiving the injured Ballard to make room on the roster to sign defensive tackle Rocky Bernard (http://m.espn.go.com/nfl/playercard?playerId=3674), and it backfired when the Patriots surprisingly snatched up the tight end off the waiver wire on Tuesday.</P>

True, Ballard will not play this year but gamble him on Rocky Bernard?

Don't forget that in the process, we cleared cap space and the Pats reduced cap space. We won't know who actually calcuated right on this one for at least a year. Ballard may never play again.

I wish I could read minds. I wonder what Reese is thinking when he is saying that? I don't think BB is getting a Christmas card this year.

We dont play the Pats this season unless in the superbowl 47...even still, Ballard won't be playing...then he will have three major tears to recuperate from before the 2013 season starts...tall order!!! Brady will be another year older and maybe their Oline struggles against the pass rush and needs him in to block...which he can but he isn't a threat in the passing game at that point.

Alot of people are reading way too much into this, believing that Belicheck is the only guy with a plan. I am sure Reese and Coughlin thought he might pass through the waiver wire and then we could do the kid right and pick him back up and IR him so we have the first opportunity to decide to sign or release him in 2013...it was not a big blow to any of our football scheming or "plans"...I guarrantee that!

Well hes a good football player. Im not sure about this "big plans" thing, but you never want to lose good football players.Especially when keeping them through 2015 only will cost U the vet min as a ERFA. He is worth more then the salary cap hit

Still dont get how the 90th guy on the roster is worth more then Ballard. Giants were foolish to cut him so early. Had they waited into training camp much better chance he slips through I think. The agent shouldnt of come out and said how the Giants wanted to resign him after he clears waivers either

Besides, if Bellichek ****ed us in any way it is by drafting ILB Dont'a Hightower...it was a given we were going to take him if he fell to #32 overall and possibly DE Chandler Jones if he fell to us (jones went 21st...hightower went 25th)...I think Billy had inside info on tragets we had in the draft. Forget Ballard!

If he is released/waive by the Pats due to injury concerns he could sign as a UFA in 2013 and get a decent "prove it" deal

They should be upset with themselves not the Pats. It wasn't a very smart thing to do. If you want to keep someone why put him on waivers. They had a few other options.

Gee wiz what doesn't everyone understand about "calculated risk". Likely keeping the roster at 90 is important. Likely the Giants didn't think Rocky would still be available once camp starts. Likely they thought that no one would pick up a player who wouldn't play for them in 2012 AND his physical condition was still uncertain. Do not forget, even if things worked according to plan, there is no guarantee that Jake will be healthy enough to play football in 2013.

That said, I wish Jake the very best and hope he has a full recovery.

Rocky Bernard was needed because Canty, Joseph, and Rogers are all dinged up for mini camp and none of our other DT's know the defense. The Giants FO definitely miscalculated, but it won't have any effect on us in 2012 and a lot of things will happen before the 2013 season. I really liked Ballard, but I'm pretty sure that Bennett and Robinson (and Eli) will make us forget about his production quick.

exactly. Giants have to figure that Bennet or Robinson will step up and do the job thhis year, and that Ballard was hoped to be reliable depth in '13 if he came back healthy. Giants are mad more because of the human element that we talk about often on here... Ballard was a good guy, his team mates liked him, and it would have been nice to have him rehabbing here, among familiar faces, rather than on some other team where he knows no one.
