HOW WILL THE GIANTS USE ANTROL ROLLE THIS SEASON? (http://network.yardbarker.com/nfl/article_external/how_will_the_new_york_giants_use_antrel_rolle_in_2 012/11095553)

"One of the best free agent signings
that Jerry Reese (http://www.rantsports.com/search/?cx=partner-pub-1362184578149106%3A0810558991&cof=FORID%3A10&ie=UT F-8&q=jerry+reese&sa=Search&siteurl=www.rantsports.c om%2Fnew-york-giants%2F&ref=) has made in his time as New York Giants (http://www.rantsports.com/new-york-giants/) General Manager, has been Antrel Rolle (http://www.rantsports.com/search/?cx=partner-pub-1362184578149106%3A0810558991&cof=FORID%3A10&ie=UT F-8&q=antrel+rolle&sa=Search&siteurl=www.rantsports. com%2Fnew-york-giants%2F&ref=). The Giants clearly needed help at the
back end of the secondary and when Rolle became available on the free agent
market, the Giants swooped in and gave him the biggest contract for a <a id="itxthook0" class="itxtrst itxtrsta itxthook" rel="nofollow"><span id="itxthook0w0" class="itxtrst itxtrstspan itxthookspan">safety</span></a> in the
leagueís history.

Rolle has been used as a safety and in
nickel situations moves down to the slot to cover the slot receiver or the tight
end depending on the team. Deon Grant (http://www.rantsports.com/search/?cx=partner-pub-1362184578149106%3A0810558991&amp;cof=FORID%3A10&amp;ie=UT F-8&amp;q=deon+grant&amp;sa=Search&amp;siteurl=www.rantsports.co m%2Fnew-york-giants%2F&amp;ref=)would
take his spot in the back end. Grant is now a free agent and it doesnít seem
like heís going to be brought back. The Giants didnít bring him back last year
until the middle of <a id="itxthook1" class="itxtrst itxtrsta itxthook" rel="nofollow"><span id="itxthook1w0" class="itxtrst itxtrstspan itxthookspan">training</span></a> camp
though with the collection of safeties the Giants have, unless thereís some sort
of injury or all the rookies arenít up to par then he could come back.</p>

The Giants have some quality at corner
with Corey Webster (http://www.rantsports.com/search/?cx=partner-pub-1362184578149106%3A0810558991&amp;cof=FORID%3A10&amp;ie=UT F-8&amp;q=corey+webster&amp;sa=Search&amp;siteurl=www.rantsports .com%2Fnew-york-giants%2F&amp;ref=) and the return of Terrell Thomas (http://www.rantsports.com/search/?cx=partner-pub-1362184578149106%3A0810558991&amp;cof=FORID%3A10&amp;ie=UT F-8&amp;q=terell+thomas&amp;sa=Search&amp;siteurl=www.rantsports .com%2Fnew-york-giants%2F&amp;ref=). Prince Amukamara (http://www.rantsports.com/search/?cx=partner-pub-1362184578149106%3A0810558991&amp;cof=FORID%3A10&amp;ie=UT F-8&amp;q=prince+amukamara&amp;sa=Search&amp;siteurl=www.rantspo rts.com%2Fnew-york-giants%2F&amp;ref=) is now healthy and will participate in
a full training camp this year and rookie<a href="http://www.rantsports.com/search/?cx=partner-pub-1362184578149106%3A0810558991&amp;cof=FORID%3A10&amp;ie=UT F-8&amp;q=jayron+hosley&amp;sa=Search&amp;siteurl=www.rantsports .com%2Fnew-york-giants%2F&amp;ref="> Jayron Hosley
</a>will get some time as well. Where will Rolle fit in the nickel scheme?</p>

The answer may depend on the safties as
well. How will Tyler Sash (http://www.rantsports.com/search/?cx=partner-pub-1362184578149106%3A0810558991&amp;cof=FORID%3A10&amp;ie=UT F-8&amp;q=tyler+sash&amp;sa=Search&amp;siteurl=www.rantsports.co m%2Fnew-york-giants%2F&amp;ref=)perform
in his second year? Will Stevie Brown (http://www.rantsports.com/search/?cx=partner-pub-1362184578149106%3A0810558991&amp;cof=FORID%3A10&amp;ie=UT F-8&amp;q=steve+brown&amp;sa=Search&amp;siteurl=www.rantsports.c om%2Fnew-york-giants%2F&amp;ref=)push him for that spot? Will undrafted
rookies Will Hill (http://www.rantsports.com/search/?cx=partner-pub-1362184578149106%3A0810558991&amp;cof=FORID%3A10&amp;ie=UT F-8&amp;q=will+hill&amp;sa=Search&amp;siteurl=www.rantsports.com %2Fnew-york-giants%2F&amp;ref=) and<a href="http://www.rantsports.com/search/?cx=partner-pub-1362184578149106%3A0810558991&amp;cof=FORID%3A10&amp;ie=UT F-8&amp;q=janzen+jackson&amp;sa=Search&amp;siteurl=www.rantsport s.com%2Fnew-york-giants%2F&amp;ref&amp;doing_wp_cron"> Janzen Jackson
</a>step in and take the spot? How Perry Fewell (http://www.rantsports.com/search/?cx=partner-pub-1362184578149106%3A0810558991&amp;cof=FORID%3A10&amp;ie=UT F-8&amp;q=perry+fewell&amp;sa=Search&amp;siteurl=www.rantsports. com%2Fnew-york-giants%2F&amp;ref=www.rantsports.com%2Fsearch%2F%3Fcx% 3Dpartner-pub-1362184578149106%253A0810558991%26cof%3DFORID%253A 10%26ie%3DUTF-8%26q%3Dwill%2Bhill%26sa%3DSearch%26siteurl%3Dwww. rantsports.com%252Fnew-york-giants%252F%26ref%3D) figures this out might be the key to
defense in the upcoming season."</p>

Why would someone pose a question and not answer it?

Rolle did an okay job as nickel corner, I think he will move back to playing the deep half of the field and on occasion, dropping down to cover a TE.

I am more concerned about the play of Kenny Phillips.

What concerns you about Kenny Phillips? He is playing in a contract year next season and he will likely kill it. Assuming that, the only concern I have is the foregone conclusion that he wont be in Blue after 2012.

That makes me sad. I feel he was robbed of 2 years here with that knee injury and is just now reaching his potential. I think he kills it this year as well and shows why we drafted him in the 1st round, just like last year but with an extra step. But with what we are paying Rolle, not sure we can bring him back. Also, not sure we keep T2 after this year either if Hosley and Prince step up. T2 will cost a ton of money after this season and the Giants hold the cards on his future. </P>

Personally, I think Kenny Phillips showed why he was drafted in the 1st round last season.

Kenny went under the radar and quietly had a really good season. If he stays healthy this season, he is going to earn a big contract next year. Hopefully it will be with us!!

<u>I am more concerned about the play of Kenny Phillips</u>.Why? Phillips and Webster were the Giants most solid dbs last year.

I think Rolle will mostly play defense. That's my word and I'm sticking to it.

Remember that wild cat throw he had against us when he was with the Cardinals?

He can chuck that thing.

Hmm, who do I want throwing the rock, Trel or Easy E?

Would like to see him doing some kind of Monster Role, line up all over the place, blitz, get physical at the line to help screw up timing, kind of like Troy with the Steelers.

Obviously our safety, not our quarterback.
