Which year do you think the Giants were better Defensively 2007 or 2008?

That Giants team of 2008 was the most dominant Giants team I have ever seen up until Plax shot himself. (A bit too young to see the teams of the 80s). They dominated all facets of the game.

2008 was better and a very complete defense but they could not get after the QB as well as 2007. Loosing Stray and Osi was painful.

The 2007 defense terrorized QBs but had issues in the secondary. Webster and Ross came on late solidifying the weakest unit.

2007 defense had more talent. But 2008 defense was better. Far more consistent, didn't have breakdowns.

they were better against the run, but losing strahan and osi hurt. robbins had a great year though.

i think that defense also benefited from having great support from special teams and an offense that just did not turn the ball over.

what a good overall team though. it still amazes me how they and the titans totally **** the bed in the divisional round. i remember the titans game was the night before, and I thought boy, i hope the giants don't turn the ball over and have bad 3rd down plays like these guys.

having healthy strahan, osi, tuck, coffield, robbins, and alford was definitely more talented than tuck, kiwi, robbins, coffield.

oh of course. i just brought that up bc slip has said many times kiwi is an avg de, and has even used his play in 08 against kiwi even lol...
my stance is that kiwi showed a ton of promise and potential, and bc he was so talented, the giants moved him to lb to get him on the field as much as possible bc our de depth was and still is stacked. and that had kiwi never switched, and just was a de only from the start, he coulda been an excellent de bc he has that ability...

only reason i brought that up.

Strahan was still great but old by 2007. Kiwi was more consistent in pressures. As was Tuck. Both played the run great and got constant pressure and in 2008 were better than Strahan and Osi the year before. The lack of depth behind Kiwi and Tuck hurt. Not to mention 2008 some of our guys on defense had elite seasons. Robbins for example. 2008 is the only year Webster was a top 5 corner. he was outright elite that season.

This was the only good regular season defense we have ever fielded since Coughlin took over. Much of that has been the fault of coordinators and poor injury history though.

Absolutely. Kiwi almost never came off the field. And did not get to the QB very often. Was one of the worst pass rushing DEs in the league on a per snap basis.
