FORMER GIANTS' WIDE RECEIVER PLAXICO BURRESS: "ELI MANNING IS ARGUABLY THE BEST QB IN THE NFL RIGHT NOW" (http://www.giants101.com/2012/07/09/former-new-york-giants-wr-plaxico-burress-eli-manning-is-arguably-best-qb-in-football-right-now/)

"File this under the "I didn't expect to hear that today" category, but while
appearing on WFAN Monday morning, former <a class="st_tag internal_tag" title="Posts tagged with New York Giants" href="http://www.giants101.com/tag/new-york-giants/" rel="tag nofollow">New York

Burress</a>, said that former teammate <a class="st_tag internal_tag" title="Posts tagged with Eli Manning" href="http://www.giants101.com/tag/eli-manning/" rel="tag nofollow">Eli
Manning</a> is quite possibly the best quarterback in the NFL (http://www.giants101.com/tag/nfl/) today.

</p>

<blockquote>

"Eli is arguably the best quarterback in football (http://www.giants101.com/tag/football/) right now," Burress said.</p></blockquote>

With that statement, Burress joins a growing list of former Giants who have
come to the defense of Eli following some shocking comments (http://www.giants101.com/2012/07/05/retired-new-york-giants-wr-amani-toomer-tony-romo-a-better-quarterback-than-eli-manning/) courtesy of the retired <a class="st_tag internal_tag" title="Posts tagged with Amani Toomer" href="http://www.giants101.com/tag/amani-toomer/" rel="tag nofollow">Amani
Toomer</a> in which he named Tony Romo (http://www.giants101.com/tag/tony-romo/)
as the premiere quarterback in the NFC East.</p>

Toomer's comments, which he's defended endlessly since making them last week,
have stirred up quite the controversy during an otherwise quiet pre-training
camp calm. They've also brought a lot of Manning's former teammates -including Derrick Ward, Michael Strahan (http://www.giants101.com/2012/07/07/michael-strahan-defends-giants-qb-eli-manning-wonders-if-amani-toomer-is-on-bath-salts/), Brandon Jacobs and
even Jeremy Shockey- out from the shadows; all of whom have defended Eli tooth
and nail.</p>

To hear both Shockey and Burress defend Eli is quite telling. At best, both
players had a tenuous relationship with Manning, but they also significantly
benefited from his talent. It's a testament to how solid a QB Manning really is,
and a far cry from the things you hear from Romo's former teammates (http://www.giants101.com/2012/07/03/new-york-giants-martellus-bennett-excited-to-play-with-unselfish-eli-manning/)."</p>

While I will say that this is quite a twist considering Amani was probably considered the goody goody "team first" receiver of old and Plax always seemed like the rebel "me first" receiver. I'm not totally convinced that the timing of Plax being a free agent has absolutely nothing to do with this. Too bad for him the Giants are stacked at receiver, last year was his window (if he even had a shot then) and he shattered it. If this isn't a ploy however, he deserves a lot of props; Eli never did him any wrong so it's not out of the realm of possibility this is genuine and not incidental, but I remain a skeptic with his track record.

LOL @ Stacked,

I think some of us are still on a champagne buzz from Super Sunday.

How can we be stacked at WR when one of outide threats left in freeagency and there's an open competition for his spot?

That's the opposite of stacked.

Cool Papa B.

Will see how things go in Pre season. If none of the guys competing for the 3 rd WR spot emerges in TCs mind to the point where it's clear cut, this is our guy for sure. The. U may see the giants call him in for a tryout and physical.

That's the opposite of stacked.
Hixon was a starting #1 at one point and Randle was given consideration for the first round, I'd say that's pretty good competition before you even consider Jernigan who coaching still has relatively high expectations for, and Barden who is playing for his career this season (as literally as you can possibly mean it). On top of that they are pretty high on a couple of the UDFA's even going as far as to say they "might" have another Cruz; I think we got some pretty good competition for the spot.
Also given how good Reese and Co generally is with draft picks I would highly doubt they're going to get 3 strikes in a row on selecting receivers; especially considering Cruz offers the versatility that said receivers aren't necessarily limited to a specific role. If Cruz is open to it he can even play some snaps as the Y and others as the Z giving both Randle and Jernigan opportunities to take snaps at their most naturally suited positions. Cruz being factored in alone makes us stacked by the flexibility he gives us.

Maybe, just maybe, Plax has finally FORGIVEN the Giants for him shooting himselfwith an illegal firearm, ruining any chance of him gettinga repeat, not taking a plea and spending time in prison and FORCING him to wear that hideous green uniform.</P>

To me, this shows a certain maturity that he's able to put what the Giants did to him in the past.</P>

I say to you that Reese should resign him to a multi year contract with multi millions in guaranteed money.</P>

Afterall, there is no way we can win a SB without him.</P>

*insert Fry's skeptical face with "I see what you did there" here*</P>

64+ if you count backups...
