INTERCEPTION BY GIANTS' COREY WEBSTER HIGHLIGHT OF TODAY'S PRACTICE (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/07/interception_by_giants_corey_w.html)

Excerpt: "I'm starting to learn what truly motivates the Giants (http://www.nj.com/giants)' defensive players in training camp this year. Stopping Victor Cruz and, more importantly, the "Cruuuuuuz" chants.

You can tell it's the daily challenge that gets them going. More on that below in today's practice report." Read more...

GIANTS' HAKEEM NICKS BELIEVES HE'S ON TRACK FOR MID-AUGUST RETURN (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/07/giants_hakeem_nicks_believes_h.html)

Excerpt: "I wrote on Saturday Hakeem Nicks looked "bored out of his skull" (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/07/giants_victor_cruz_puts_on_a_s.html) watching Giants (http://www.nj.com/giants) practice. "I wouldn't say I am bored," Nicks said today.

All right, how about frustrated? Antsy?

"You could say antsy," he said. "I'm ready to get back at it. I feel like I need to be out there with the guys but following the instructions of the team doctors and the team trainers right now." Read more...

ELI MANNING GROWING INTO HIS OWN AS GIANTS' QB SHOWED OFF PERSONALITY DURING OFFSEASON (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/07/eli_manning_growing_into_his_o.html)

Excerpt: "Chris Snee arrived at lunch Saturday wearing a black T-shirt with white lettering that read, “I (heart) Eli.” David Diehl said today he might unveil an “Easy E” shirt with Eli Manning’s face on it.
And then there’s the picture of Manning in a dress and makeup during his “Saturday Night Live” hosting stint. It was suggested to Snee perhaps someday that image might find its way onto the front of an oversized shirt fit for an offensive lineman.

“I’m way ahead of you, buddy,” the Giants (http://boards.giants.com/nj.com/giants)’ right guard replied." Read more...

VICTOR CRUZ PUTS ON A SHOW FOR THOSE ATTENDING TRAINING CAMP (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/07/giants_victor_cruz_puts_on_a_s.html)

Excerpt "Victor Cruz was flat-out being a showman today. During offensive "on air" drills, the Giants (http://www.nj.com/giants)' wide receiver was making one-handed, twisting catches and downfield fingertip grabs that made drills with no defensive players as exciting as they could possibly be for the crowd on hand." GIANTS' JERRY REESE SAYS HE EXPECTS PRINCE AMUKAMARA "TO PLAY LIKE A FIRST ROUND PICK" (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/07/giants_jerry_reese_expects_pri.html)

Excerpt: "Jerry Reese's expectations for cornerback Prince Amukamara this upcoming season are simple. "I expect Prince to play like a first-round draft pick," Reese said today in a session with reporters. "That’s pretty cut and dry for me."

What does that mean, exactly?"

GIANTS' JERRY REESE SAYS A NEW CONTRACT FOR VICTOR CRUZ "COULD HAPPEN" (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/07/giants_jerry_reese_says_a_new.html)

Excerpt: "On Thursday, Victor Cruz told reporters a new contract will certainly be welcomed, but it doesn't serve as his sole motivation. He has maintained that he will play out the final year of his rookie deal at $540,000 and take it from there.
Today, Jerry Reese didn't deny the possibility that the team can work out a new contract with his star wide receiver before he becomes a restricted free agent after the season.: Read more...

GIANTS HAVE THEIR BEST CHANCE TO REPEAT AS SUPER BOWL CHAMPS IN FRANCHISE HISTORY (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/giants/ny-giants-best-chance-repeat-super-bowl-champs-franchise-history-article-1.1124027)

Excerpt: "What do the 1987 players strike, Bill Parcells and Plaxico Burress have in common? They all prevented the Giants from repeating as Super Bowl champions.

Now the Giants have a fourth chance to win Super Bowls back-to-back and another opportunity to repeat as champs for the first time in their 87-year history.

Here’s what stopped them the first three times in the season after they won they won the Super Bowl:" Read more...

CAMP NOTES: CANTY SAYS GIANTS DON'T LOVE "LUCKY" TAG (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2012/07/camp-notes-canty-says-giants-dont-love-lucky-tag)

Excerpt: "They're the Super Bowl champs, and they're loaded with talent. They have a dangerous offense, a deep defense, and a veteran coach.
But these Giants don't come into 2012 feeling like a favorite for the Super Bowl. No, according to defensive tackle Chris Canty, this team - somehow - still has a serious chip on its shoulder.

"Well, obviously some of the things that you heard around the league, in this offseason, amongst peers is: This Giants team was lucky last year," Canty said Saturday. "They were lucky. They just fell into the Super Bowl and it happened. I think a lot of guys take that personal." Read more...

GIANTS TEAMMATES LOVE ELI - PRANKS AND ALL (http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/giants/labor_of_love_Q7gi2DQJKr7huoLxomhwuN)

Excerpt: "Chris Snee walked out of the Giants’ cafeteria after lunch wearing a black T-shirt with an unusual message emblazoned across his chest. The offensive lineman’s shirt proclaimed “I love Eli,’’ with a bright red heart representing the word “love.”

“I love Eli,’’ Snee explained, a deadpan grin forming on his face. “I mean, who doesn’t? It’s easier for me to wear this shirt than to just say that I love him. It’s more masculine to do it this way.’’

Loving Eli is all the rage around the Giants, especially after the low-key quarterback gained his second Super Bowl MVP award in a four-year span. But strong emotion is not what Manning is all about because a rock-steady approach rarely necessitates the need for wild mood swings. He has become a star quarterback, but doesn’t act like one, which is why he is not above pulling pranks on unsuspecting teammates and, even more tellingly, he’s just as often the victim of mayhem directed toward him." BIG BLUE CHAMPIONS JUST WANT A LITTLE (http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/giants/item_207sFT8OdrRgSjhFrcgpVN)

Excerpt: "It was a surprising admission for a general manager to make. But Jerry Reese is concerned it’s a little too quiet around the Giants’ training camp these days. No one is grumbling about contracts or who the quarterback should or should not be. No coaches are calling themselves the best at what they do, and no players are telling the media how to do their jobs.

For a defending Super Bowl champion, the Giants are about as blah as it gets. And that has Reese concerned.

“It doesn’t bother me to have a little chatter going into training camp,” Reese said yesterday in his annual training-camp address. “I kind of like it when there’s a little bit of chatter and it’s rocky a little bit. That keeps everybody on edge a little bit. Actually, I’ve got a little bit of nervous energy because it’s too quiet. I’m sure something will pop up sooner or later.” Read more...

PRINCE OUT TO POP IN 2ND SEASON (http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/giants/prince_out_to_pop_in_nd_season_iYw9SpO2YF4pXk2UFA6 3gI)

Excerpt: "During the Giants’ first training camp practice of 2012 on Friday, backup quarterback David Carr tried to hit Rueben Randle with a deep throw. There to pick off the pass was Prince Amukamara.

Amukamara is poised to be a critical piece in the Giants secondary. The second-year cornerback suffered through a miserable, disappointing and injury-plagued rookie season as the Giants’ first-round pick, but fellow cornerback Terrell Thomas believes Amukamara is set to emerge.

“I think he’s ready,” Thomas said yesterday, before revealing he believes Amukamara is fed up with the criticism he has heard." Read more...

CANTY STRUGGLES TO RETURN FROM KNEE SURGERY (http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/giants/canty_struggles_to_return_from_knee_m85nFLksUp2IPt FvJkcYmK)

Excerpt: "Throughout the offseason, Chris Canty maintained he was making good progress from the knee surgery he underwent after the Super Bowl and continually expressed optimism he would be ready for training camp.

Canty, though, wasn’t on the field for the Giants’ first two practices, and coach Tom Coughlin said it will be a while before the veteran defensive tackle gets back into action.

“I thought there was an outside shot [to be ready for camp] but obviously that wasn’t the case,’’ Canty said yesterday at the University at Albany. “Be smart about it, take care of it, we will do what we can to make sure that when it is time, make sure we are ready to transition.’’ Read more...

GIANTS' CAMP NOTEBOOK (http://www.northjersey.com/sports/164111886_Giants_camp_notebook.html)

Excerpt: "Terrell Thomas' back tightened up on him and forced him out of action roughly 20 minutes into practice. He spent time getting stretched out by trainers and left the field twice before returning with his helmet, but did not get back out there.
Coach Tom Coughlin said Thomas' legs were fine, which is of concern considering the projected starting cornerback is recovering from ACL surgery. It's unclear as to whether Thomas will be ready to practice today." Read more...

GIANTS' GM JERRY REESE MAKING NO GUARANTEES FOR '12 (http://online.wsj.com/public/page/news-sports-nfl.html)

Excerpt: "New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese isn't making any guarantees about either winning another Super Bowl or starting the next NFL dynasty.
Reese likes the Giants' roster that he kept mostly intact in the offseason and he believes Tom Coughlin's team has as good a chance as anybody at getting to New Orleans for another shot at the Super Bowl." Read more...

Excerpt: "Somewhat lost in the panic following Jason Pierre-Paul hitting the deck on Saturday was an ankle injury sustained by defensive end Justin Trattou (http://www.giants101.com/tag/justin-trattou/). As the rain began to come down and the New York Giants (http://www.giants101.com/tag/new-york-giants/) transitioned into end zone drills, Trattou was visibility hurting as he was carted off the field." GIANTS' ELI MANNING ON WR JERRELL JERNIGAN: "IM SEEING SOME FLASHES OF BRILLIANCE" (http://www.giants101.com/2012/07/29/new-york-giants-eli-manning-on-jerrel-jernigan-im-seeing-some-flashes-of-brilliance/)

But it's not just onlookers who have noticed Jernigan's improvement; his teammates have as well. And prior to Sunday's practice, New York Giants (http://www.giants101.com/tag/new-york-giants/) quarterback Eli Manning offered some incredible praise for the youngster." Read more...

Excerpt: "A little more than a week ago, free agent safety Deon Grant (http://www.giants101.com/tag/deon-grant/) told Sirius XM radio that he fully expects to re-sign with the New York Giants (http://www.giants101.com/2012/07/21/deon-grant-expects-to-re-sign-with-new-york-giants-during-training-camp/) at some point during training camp. FOR GIANTS' GM JERRY REESE, PRESEASON A LITTLE TOO QUIET THUS FAR (http://www.giants101.com/2012/07/29/for-new-york-giants-gm-jerry-reese-offseason-a-little-too-quiet-thus-far/)

Excerpt: "Each and every year, it seems like the New York Giants (http://www.giants101.com/tag/new-york-giants/) face an extremely loud offseason. A year ago, it was all about the NFL (http://www.giants101.com/tag/nfl/) Lockout and then the subsequent contract issue involving defensive end Osi Umenyiora. This year, following a victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI, it's been oddly quiet. And for General Manager Jerry Reese (http://www.giants101.com/tag/jerry-reese/), it's an unfamiliar and slightly nervous position for him to be in.
“Quiet is OK,” Reese said Saturday. “But it doesn’t bother me to have a little chatter going into training camp. Actually, I kinda like it if there’s a little bit of chatter, if it’s rocky a bit. It keeps everybody on edge a little bit. I’ve got a bit of nervous energy because it’s too quiet.” Read more...

Excerpt: "They say the best way to judge a man's character is to watch what he does for others who can't do anything for him. For NFL (http://www.giants101.com/tag/nfl/) athlete's, that's something a bit more difficult to focus on as every fan is a potential negative story waiting to happen. Unfortunately, drama sells and doing good deeds often goes unnoticed. Meanwhile, telling reporters you hate everyone, as New York (http://www.giants101.com/tag/new-york/) Giants tight end Martellus Bennett (http://www.giants101.com/tag/martellus-bennett/) recently did, is a comment that spreads like wildfire." GIANTS' TRAINING CAMP DAY # 3 PRACTICE REPORT (http://www.bigblueview.com/2012/7/29/3200356/new-york-giants-training-camp-day-3-practice-report)

Excerpt: "On the third day of New York Giants (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/new-york-giants) training camp, the sun finally shone. After a dreary, drizzly morning the skies cleared and the Giants were able to work on the UAlbany grass fields for the first time since camp began on Friday.
"It's real grass. It smells like grass, I did see something that looked like blue," said Giants coach Tom Coughlin after practice. "It's nice to be outside. We got a little something done."

Here is a look at Sunday's practice:" Readmore...

LUNCH WITH GIANTS' PUNTER STEVE WEATHERFORD (http://www.bigblueview.com/2012/7/29/3198998/lunch-with-new-york-giants-punter-steve-weatherford)

Excerpt: "You may remember that during the offseason I solicited some questions from the community for New York Giants' punter Steve Weatherford. I sent those to Weatherford, but a trip to Africa, a visit to the White House and a billion or so other media requests intervened and the questions never got answered.

Well, far be it for anyone to think that the Giants' punter was blowing me, or you, off. When I saw Weatherford on Friday the first thing he did was apologize for not answering those questions. Saturday, he made good on that long-ago promise." Read more...

THERE'S NO KEEPING DOMENIK HIXON DOWN (http://insidefootball.com/blog/archives/4782)

Excerpt: "In many ways, 27 year-old Domenik Hixon’s pro football career thus far can be summed up by a line in a song by the British pop band Chumbawumba’s 1997 hit Tubthumping, that says, “I get knocked down, but I get up again….’cause you’re never going to keep me down…”
Well just try to keep Hixon, the 6-2, 197 lbs. receiver who is attempting to resume his promising football career this season after having had two consecutive ACL knee surgeries, down. Because although he’s been knocked down twice, he’s keeps on getting up, fighting his way back, and is determined to become becoming even better than he was before thanks to a valuable lesson he learned from his mother, Birgit." THE DAY AT CAMP: SATURDAY, JULY 28TH (http://insidefootball.com/blog/archives/4784)

Excerpt: "Well, the Giants tried to beat the rain, but in the end, the outer edge of a storm that reportedly dumped some heavy precipitation on Saratoga area (30 minutes north of Albany) seemed to push the Giants into hurry-up mode.

Nevertheless, head coach Tom Coughlin and his Giants not only finished the practice, but stayed on to sign autographs for the fans who sat through a steady rain for the last 20 minutes or so of practice.

Coughlin was, of course, relieved. Again, with so few practices on the schedule, to lose all or part of one to inclement weather would be a major deal to a team that’s on a very tight schedule. Thus it was no surprise that afterwards, Coughlin had a twinge of annoyance in his voice.

“An extreme adjustment. It’s raining two minutes before you practice, so you have to go where you can practice. That’s the issue." Read more...

CAMP CONFIDENTIAL: NEW YORK GIANTS (http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/giants/post/_/id/15362/camp-confidential-new-york-giants)

Excerpt: "The task for New York Giants (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/nyg/new-york-giants) coach Tom Coughlin, as he works this summer to keep his Super Bowl champions from getting complacent, is to remind them of all of the things about which they have no right to be complacent.

In a meeting on the first day of camp, Coughlin showed his team a few stats. Under the heading "Worst to Best," he reminded the Giants that they ranked last in the league in rushing offense in the 2011 regular season and 27th in total defense. He put up the number 400, which is the number of points the Giants allowed en route to a 9-7 regular-season record -- more than all but seven teams in the league, not one of which reached the playoffs.

"There's a lot of improvement to be made," Coughlin said after Saturday's practice. "And the challenge has been, 'Which team are we?' Are we the 7-7 team, or are we the Super Bowl champions?" Read more...

i think Cruz will be hard to handle this season!

That is certainly true when Nicks is on the field. It will be significant;y improved when we see who the # 3 is going to be and how well our #1 TE plays. Needless to say a much improved running game would be a HUGE plus for the passing game.
