Adam Shefter reported Shockey visited with the Eagles the past week and that they offered him a contract. Shockey will apparently sign, but he just doesnt want to go to training camp this early. (typical shockey)

but what do you guys think, think this will help philly?

He could help them out I would think, but wondering how he and the Eagles will actually get along. I just don't see his personality meshing with Reid's too well.

I once was an avid Shockey fan but this move strikes me in an indifference sort of way.

I care more for our suspect O-Line, the 3rd Wideout to be determined (and his impact if any) and if our D-Line will have an effective pass rush...

I really don't think Shockey has that "give me the ball every play" attitude any more. Haven't really heard the Saints or Panthers complain about his attitude. However, that being said, he's just not really a factor anymore. He'll be a back up TE. No big deal.

Shockey never had much speed even when he was with the Giants but the last I saw of him last season he was soooo slow he seemed to be jogging so I doubt he will be much more than a blocking TE for the Eagles when ever he gets on the field...

^ this
in the words of Stepehen A Smith "DONT BE SO DISRESPECTFUL!"
the guy was a good giant, played his heart out, some poster said he was slow, maybe your television reception was slow cause shockey was burning LB's and some corners on routes.
he was a distraction to a growing QB and at that time a military minded coach.
you all are saying who cares, it doesn't matter well your not suiting up on sundays and best believe that the giants coordinators are planning on how to cover him being on the field two times next year.
stop acting like he can't be a factor to help them Egirls, he can its just a matter of if he will.

but you all loved him when he was playing, and winning games, when he was fiesty on the field and trucking people. just cause hes not on the team anymore doesn't mean he didn't play his heart out for this team. was he a great i wouldn't say that the reqirements to be great are high he never came close but he was a good giant for us when he was productive; you cannot deny that.

Difficult teamate but Wellington loved him. Ironically, the 2 players to have the oppurtunity to spend time with Wellington were Shockey and Tiki. I truly believe if Wellington was still around, the Shockey era may not have ended the way it did. (I am not saying that that would be a good or bad thing.)

This is complete revisionist history. Shockey practiced hard and played hard. He left it all on the field. Yes he was a pain in the ***. Yes he wanted the ball too much, but the guy played his *** off.
Too suggest anything else is to be completely blind to this guys career with us.

He is the 2nd all time leading TE behind Bavaro. Like him or hate him, that's a fact. We haven't had a real replacement for him since he left. Boss might have been but he's out of the picture.

its just crazy how you posters can disavow what shockey brought to the table when he played with us. honestly i think if you paired a shockey in his prime with the eli we saw last year you have a combination that probably triples in production the romo and witten combo. which is why i lobbied so hard to draft a playmaking TE in the draft cuase i know eli will take it to the next level with one, especially with the way hes going as of right now. Shockey despite his diva antics, never really had any off the field issues, and only said questionable things after leaving ( which wasn't a smooth parting might i add ) still was a great player and a good giant for us while he was here. to say other wise is ignorant

How was Shokey a great giant? No, he was a great competitor, that's about it. He was deluded with self interest and loathing, he was not a team player and therefore, was not a great giant. He made good plays and stayed competitive, but as far as some of you saying he was a great giant... yeah, right... Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed him as a player he played with heart, but I recall him creating a lot of termoil within the organization.

How did he get to be the 2nd leading TE behind Bavaro?

Nobody liked Shockey, except me, I Liked him when he was with the Giants, he seemed like a great tough player, little did we know he had a lot of issues, Eli hated him, so did most of the coaches, and players, he disrupted the whole team. So let him go to the Eagles and raise hell there. The Saints where glad to get rid of him ! It seems like Carolina Panthers feel the same way. If the Eagles don't take him, I hope he winds up with the Cow Girls !

The Shockey hate here is unbelievable. The "he was a cancer" nonsense was always pure MB speculation. If you repeat it enough you all start believing it.
If you all might take off your Shockey hate caps you might remember that he had zero problems in 2007. He just got hurt and there was nothing he could do about it.
And the guy was everything on the field that a Giants fan could ask for. Huge talent and huge effort.

He is the 2nd all time leading TE behind Bavaro. Like him or hate him, that's a fact. We haven't had a real replacement for him since he left. Boss might have been but he's out of the picture.

What that means to me is that the Giants have only had one "great" TE in their history.

Nonsense and pure MB speculation? One of his former Giants teammates has said that he was "a bad teammate and a worse person." That same teammate also said that Shockey thwarted Eli's development by "trying to take advantage of Eli by pressuring him for the ball" and that Shockey was a distraction in the huddle. Shockey also ignored Eli's requests to participate in voluntary offseason workouts in NJ, thus undermining Eli's leadership in the fledgling stages of his career. Lastly, Shockey also screamed profanity at the team's general manager in front of a bunch of his teammates because he was angry about something that happened after he got injured during the Super Bowl season (I have read his explanation of why he was angry several times and still have no idea why he was angry). Not nonsense at all . . . .the guy was a total tool.

That's not to say that he wasn't a "good" player on the field . . . he was obviously a good player on the field. But he was a good player who could have (and probably should have) been great. He showed unbelievable talent and toughness in his rookie season, which he was never able to really duplicate. In my opinion, he is one of the most overrated Giants of all time.

If Roseann Barr, Andy Reid and Chris Christie raced Usain Bolt, would the second place finisher be considered a "great" runner?

Burns LBer and not with his speed makes no sense.
he had the speed in his routes to burn LBer's.
Fact Shockey was faster than every other TE we had on roster while he was here and there after
Shockey - 4.58
Boss - 4.66
Ballard - 4.82
Beckum - 4.61
Benette - 4.68
please stop. i know you hate the guy but to discredit his talent and what he did for this organization is really crazy.

The point is that we didn't just make up the idea that Shockey was a pain in the *** as a teammate . . . .one of his own teammates confirmed it on the record.

And for the record, I didn't exactly hear anyone jumping to Shockey's defense . . . .

Maybe we're mixing up his personality with his talents. You can be right behind Mark Bavaro and suck as a player, it's just the way I see it.

This is complete revisionist history. Shockey practiced hard and played hard. He left it all on the field. Yes he was a pain in the ***. Yes he wanted the ball too much, but the guy played his *** off.
Too suggest anything else is to be completely blind to this guys career with us.
nah not blind at all. Saw Shockey for what he was after his first two seasons his head got in the way. He played hard but he cried harder. He wasn't a great teamate so in my eyes not a great Giant at all. He blew it with his ego.........

I just loved the guy when he was here. Hard nosed player and thats the kind of guy we all love.
The revisionist history around here because he left badly is amazing and disappointing.

And the guy that said he didn't play hard needs to have his head examined.
stop with the revisionist crap. The guy played hard but after the second season played more for himself. I loved him in his rookie and sophomore year then he became a me player. Dont like that....Tiki was the same way. The team benefited from their play but they were me 1st players through and through.

Oh. I see . . . what he did for the organization was to not play to the level of his talent, stunt the growth of their franchise QB,and be a giant pain in the ***. Hard to imagine that the Giants don't appreciate that.

I'm probably splitting hairs, because I don't dispute that Shockey was a good player. I just dispute that he was a great player.

To me he was a disappointment. With his talent and toughness he should have been an all-time great.

Honestly I have to agree with GMENAGAIN on this issue. I have always and still do, look for the 2nd Coming of Bavaro. A tough-***, blue-collar, take-no-**** kind of "working-man's football player" in any Tight End to wear Giants' blue.

Shockey was magnificent, when he wanted to be and a diva-***** at other times. Totally un-Bavaro in my eyes. Good TE, statistically a great TE for Big Blue, personality-wise? Not so much.

until Bavaro returns ...
