GIANTS' DOMENIK HIXON MAKES LEAPING CATCH TO END PRACTICE, HELPS TO PROVE KNEE IS HEALTHY
(http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants_domenik_hixon_makes_lea.html)
Excerpt: "Tom Coughlin was lamenting the fact he had hoped the two-minute drill would last a little bit longer than just three plays - two passes and a run to set up a game-winning field goal.
"They just looked at me and said, 'What was the objective?'" the Giants (http://www.nj.com/giants)' coach said. "To get inside the 20."

That's just what happened when Domenik Hixon caught a slant past linebacker Chase Blackburn on the first snap. One play later, he went up the left sideline with Prince Amukamara on his hip, leaped for the pass from Eli Manning and came down with it inside that 20-yard line.

And more importantly, Hixon got right back up." Read more...

GIANTS' TERRELL THOMAS TO GET THIRD OPINION ON POSSIBLE ACL INJURY (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants_terrell_thomas_to_get_t.html)

Excerpt: "The Giants say there is no update on their end and that nothing has changed since they sent out a press release indicating Thomas has an ACL injury (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/07/giants_terrell_thomas_suffers.html), the full extent of which won't be known until he undergoes a scope. Their doctors reached that conclusion after running tests earlier this week and still believe that to be the case.
So Schefter's report about "doctors who have examined Thomas so far" believing there's no tear is surely in reference to Arthur Ting, whom Thomas went to see in California earlier this week, and perhaps some of his associates. Ting is the one who performed the surgery on Thomas' knee last year." Read more...

GIANTS' COACH TOM COUGHLIN DEFENDS SUSPENDED TYLER SASH AGAINST NFL "WATCHDOG"
Excerpt: "When word broke on Tuesday Tyler Sash had been suspended (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/07/giants_tyler_sash_suspended_fo.html) for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy, the Giants (http://www.nj.com/giants)’ safety said his “intentions were pure.”
Today, Tom Coughlin defended Sash.

“There’s no issue with this young man. He doesn’t need any watchdog over him,” the Giants’ coach said after a rain-shortened practice. “Ignorance is no excuse for the law, I understand, but if he knows what’s expected he does it.” Read more...News

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS.

HIXON SHOWS NO FEAR WITH BIG CAMP CATCH (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2012/08/hixon-shows-no-fear-with-big-camp-catch)

Excerpt: "The play of the day in training camp was one Tom Coughlin didn’t want to see.

It was one of the last plays of practice during a two-minute drill with the Giants backed up on their own 38 yard line. Domenik Hixon took off down the left sideline and Eli Manning threw a bomb that Hixon caught by leaping over Prince Amukamara.

Then Hixon went down … and was slow to get up.

He was OK, but given what just happened to Terrell Thomas, that was a hold-your-breath moment for the receiver who is trying to rehab from two ACL tears in the last two years.

“Well, you know he’s going to try to make the play,” Coughlin said. “This guy is something else. He has no fear. He just went up there and he got it. If I had scripted it I wouldn’t have done it that way. I probably wouldn’t have had him in there. You see him go down …” Read more...

BECKUM TRIES TO BLOCK OUT THOMAS; TEAR
(http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2012/08/beckum-tries-to-block-out-thomas-tear)
Excerpt: "Tight end Travis Beckum has never given up hope that he’ll be able to play in the regular season opener on Sept. 5. But he tore his ACL about six months after Terrell Thomas did.

And yes, seeing Thomas re-tear it 11 months into his rehab, certainly gave Beckum a scare.

“It did,” Beckum said. “But you can’t try to progress on your knee and think about that at the same time. You’ve kind of got blank that out and just work on your (knee).” Read more...

GIANTS' DOMENIK HIXON FOR NFL SEASON WITH MEMORIES OF OF TORN ACL ON HIS MIND (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/giants/ny-giants-domenik-hixon-prepares-nfl-season-memories-torn-acl-mind-article-1.1127089)

Excerpt: "Domenik Hixon (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Domenik+Hixon) will tell you he feels “great.” He’ll tell you that he thinks about his surgically repaired right knee when only somebody insists on mentioning it to him, and that he’s been going through Giants training camp with “no limitations.”

But Hixon knows that his comeback from last season’s torn right ACL his second such injury in two years isn’t without risks, and cornerback Terrell Thomas (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Terrell+Thomas)’ injury on Sunday provided an apt reminder of that.

Like Hixon, Thomas was trying to come back from a torn right ACL last season. But that comeback likely came to an end on Sunday, when Thomas partially re-tore the ligament." Read more...

COUGHLIN: NFL FRUG POLICY NEEDS "COMMON SENSE" (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2012/08/coughlin-nfl-drug-policy-needs-common-sense)

Excerpt: "Tom Coughlin said he felt “very badly” for Tyler Sash when the safety was suspended four games for violating the NFL’s policy against performance enhancing drugs (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2012/07/sash-hit-with-four-game-drug-suspension). He also said he wished the NFL’s drug policy included a little more “common sense.” Read more...

MARA TWEAKS JERRY AS CHAMPS STAY QUIET (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2012/08/mara-tweaks-jerry-as-champs-stay-quiet)

Excerpt: "John Mara walked into the Giants’ team dining hall on Wednesday afternoon with a bandage on his forehead. He pointed to it when he saw a couple of reporters and said “You should see what Jerry Jones looks like.”

That one-liner was the only line any of the Giants offered in response to Jerry Jones’ vow to “beat the New York Giants’ ***.” Beyond that, the Giants’ co-owner had no real comment about his Cowboys counterpart." Read more...

HIXON PLAY SUCCESSFUL, BUIT GIANTS' COUGHLIN NOT HAPPY (http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/giantsblog/hixon_play_successful_but_giants_dQjSiRH3TybLSAHLW 9pIbP)

Excerpt: "The last play was a great play, although Tom Coughlin would have preferred the player who made it didn’t and that the actual play didn’t happen quite so quickly.

If this is the worst Coughlin has to worry about it’s going to be a smooth training camp for the Giants.

Working in the two-minute drill for the first time this summer, the offense got the ball on its own 26-yard line with 1:26 remaining, trailing by two points and two time outs to work with. Eli Manning hit Domenik Hixon for 11 yards and on the very next play, Manning let it fly as Hixon and cornerback Prince Amukamara ran with each other down the left sideline. Amukamara had the desired inside position but it was Hixon who jumped just a bit higher and competed just a bit harder, going up to make a leaping catch before tumbling down to the ground to complete a 45-yard gain." COUGHLIN FRUSTRATED AFTER GIANTS' FULL-PAD PRACTICE IS CUT SHORT (http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/giantsblog/coughlin_frustrated_after_giants_iOefMJORgCr0yx0Dj 4e7aJ)

Excerpt: "The Giants, for the first time all summer, were decked out in full pads for Wednesday’s practice but they barely got down to some real hitting. Their scheduled two-hour practice was shortened to one hour on the outdoor grass fields before rain and the threat of lightning forced them indoors.

Tom Coughlin was hoping the storm would pass and his team could resume the outdoor practice but when the storm front stalled, Coughlin has no choice but to ditch his plans. The Giants took off the pads and finished up their abbreviated practice with a walk-through on side-by-side basketball courts.

Did this frustrate Coughlin?

“What do you think?’’ he said." Read more...

GIANTS SET TO SHUFFLE SECONDARY (http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/giants/jints_set_to_shuffle_secondary_BmX9hefFHvUi21vTCeR sxN)

Excerpt: "With corner Terrell Thomas partially tearing his ACL, the Giants will have to shuffle their secondary for the second straight season. Prince Amukamara is being challenged by general manager Jerry Reese to “play like a first-rounder,” which he hasn’t done, and safety Antrel Rolle is being asked to play nickel again, which he didn’t want.

Coach Tom Coughlin acknowledged Thomas’ recovery “is going to take some time.’’ That leaves veteran Corey Webster to man one starting spot, with Amukamara leading a cast of corners — Justin Tryon, Michael Coe and rookie Jayron Hosley — to vie for the other, and Rolle forced to play nickel if no one else steps up." GIANTS, HIXON HOPE THJOMAS RECOVERS FORM LATEST INJURY (http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/giants/hixon_giants_hope_thomas_recovers_LREoaDEKwQlqEcnf ON4qcM)

Excerpt: "There is a human face that can be attached to the potentially-devastating repeat knee injury to Terrell Thomas even though he has left training camp, hoping for any shred of encouraging news out in California.

“I’m devastated for him,’’ receiver Domenik Hixon said yesterday at the University at Albany. “I know how much he was looking forward to coming back. Hopefully he comes back with some good news. It’s just stressful, real stressful.’’

Hixon doesn’t play the same position as Thomas and, on the field and the depth chart, the possibility that Thomas, a starting cornerback, is done for a second consecutive season has no bearing on him. Yet the bond is real and strong between these two players. Hixon has missed the past two seasons after twice tearing and needing reconstruction on his right anterior cruciate ligament and it was Hixon on Sunday who was working in a one-on-one drill with Thomas when they both slipped and only one of them got up healthy." ELI: GIANTS HAVEN'T DONE ENOUGH TO BE CALLED A DYNASTY (http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/giants/eli_giants_have_not_done_enough_e0sanhBda8bujYkhnL BDXK)

Excerpt: "Don’t use the ‘D’ word in front of Eli Manning.

The Giants quarterback was direct in saying that his team is not a dynasty (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/08/01/eli-manning-giants-are-not-a-dynasty/)in an interview on NFL AM despite them winning two of the past five Super Bowls.

“No, no, we’re not,” Manning said on the NFL Network show. “We had a little break — the two years prior to last year we didn’t make the playoffs. We’ve got work to do. We have good players on this team, we have the potential to be a playoff team and to make a run once we get into the playoffs.” Read more...

Excerpt: "Jason Pierre-Paul, at his best, creates chaos. Batted passes. Collapsed pockets. Skittish quarterbacks.

Last season, he became a standout defensive end for the Giants, with 16 sacks and a consistent ability to cause jaws to drop with his athletic ability and his 81-inch wingspan. TERRELL THOMAS INJURY: GIANTS HOPING FOR GOOD NEWS
(http://www.bigblueview.com/2012/8/2/3214848/terrell-thomas-injurygiants-hoping-for-good-news-dr-james-andrews?tw_p=twt)
Excerpt: "New York Giants (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/new-york-giants) cornerback Terrell Thomas (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/34498/terrell-thomas) reportedly visits famed orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews today in Florida. When a baseball pitcher visits Andrews it usually means bad news. Conversely, there seems to be some optimism that the Giants will get good news from Andrews about Thomas' right knee.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Wednesday that "doctors who have examined Thomas so far do not believe he has a torn ACL and are optimistic he may play again this season." Excerpt: "It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that New York Giants (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/new-york-giants) coach Tom Coughlin was not a happy camper when he spoke to reports following Wednesday's abbreviated practice at UAlbany.
The weather, the suspension of Tyler Sash (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/130874/tyler-sash), and the continued worry about the health and well-being of injured cornerback Terrell Thomas (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/34498/terrell-thomas) were all quite obviously weighing on the coach when he spoke to reporters." THE DAY AT TRAINING CAMP: AUGUST 2, 2012 (http://insidefootball.com/blog/archives/4850)

Excerpt: "I understand that there are questions about any player who had an ACL injury and if they had concerns about re-injuring it. So I get the need to talk to Domenik Hixon, who makes you hold your breath every time he goes down on the ground, or even Travis Beckum, who’s currently recovering from a torn ACL.
But let’s face it – everyone is different and just because Terrell Thomas re-injured his ACL (supposedly), that doesn’t mean that every guy who had ACL surgery is a candidate for getting re-injured." Read more...

CB HOSLEY: I'M LIKE A GREEN BANANA (http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/giants/post/_/id/15534/cb-hosley-i’m-like-a-green-banana)

Excerpt: "A day after veteran tight end Martellus Bennett (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/11295/martellus-bennett) likened himself to a black unicorn, rookie cornerback Jayron Hosley (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/14983/jayron-hosley) offered a unique comparison for himself: a banana.

“I’m trying to soak it all in. I’m like that green banana trying to stay green and keep learning, you know, I want to get ripe,” said Hosley, a third-round pick out of Virginia Tech “I don’t want to feel like I’m satisfied or complacent.” Read more...

Williams twice stuffed rookie David Wilson (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/14887/david-wilson) at the line of scrimmage and hit him hard enough to make noise with his pads hitting the rookie's pads. SOURCE: TERRELL THOMAS TO SEE DOC (http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/8224303/source-doctors-optimistic-new-york-giants-terrell-thomas)

Excerpt: "Giants coach Tom Coughlin said he still holds out hope his cornerback can play this season but admitted his optimism is somewhat guarded by what he already knows about Thomas' knee.

"His knee is going to require some time," Coughlin said. "It is not likely tomorrow morning something is going to happen. I'm always going to hope (for the best). I have enough information, though, to counter some of that hope. I will always hold out hope."

But they barely wasted their breath talking about it Wednesday. As if they all got the same memo, the team's players refused to engage in a war of words with the Cowboys' owner.

I agree, sadly we don't know if he is or will be the same player. Cautious now or agressive? I think for those players coming back from surgery they need to see Hixon stay healthy. It would be a mental boost all around.

Hixon was interviewed and he said ACL tears should be a 2 year rehab but that's just not realistic in the NFL.
