NEWARK STAR LEDGER

GIANTS' TERRELL THOMAS HOPES TO BE BACK WITHIN A MONTH (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants_terrell_thomas_hopes_to.html)

Excerpt: "Tom Coughlin was smiling while being asked about Terrell Thomas. That, in and of itself, was a good sign. The Giants’ coach was much more upbeat and optimistic Monday than he’d been about Thomas in the past week after announcing to the media the veteran starting cornerback was cleared by noted orthopedist James Andrews to try rehabbing an injury to his surgically repaired anterior cruciate ligament suffered early in training camp." FEWER PRACTICES A PERK FOR THE USUALLY GRUMPY CHRIS SNEE (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/fewer_practices_a_giant_perk_f.html)

Excerpt: "It used to be Chris Snee was miserable for just about all of the time spent here.
“Grunts and stuff. That was about all you’d get from him,” Giants left guard Kevin Boothe said of the team’s starting right guard Monday. “Yeah, he’s a little bit more approachable now. Not much, but ... ”

The reason is the new collective bargaining agreement allows for only one regular practice per day in training camp.

While the CBA makes all of the players happier, perhaps no one’s demeanor has changed more than Snee, who has been laughing and joking with teammates and reporters since arriving here almost two weeks ago.

“I think that was because (Rich) Seubert was here and he was a miserable human being and he would rub off on me,” Snee said of his former teammate." Read more...

GIANTS' MICHAEL BOLEY RETURNS TO PRACTICE AFTER SITTING OUT A WEEK WITH A HAMSTRING INJURY (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants_michael_boley_returns_t.html)

Excerpt: "Before we get going on the practice report, let me note Tom Coughlin took time at the top of his press conference today to speak about the death of Garrett Reid (http://www.nj.com/sports/mustsee/index.ssf/2012/08/son_of_eagles_coach_andy_reid.html) and send his best wishes to the Reid family.
"(Sunday) was a very sad day for all of us in the NFL family," Coughlin said. "And our condolences, our deepest sympathy goes out to Andy and Tammy Reid and their family (after) the terrible, terrible loss of their son."

Coughlin also mentioned defensive quality control coach Al Holcomb lost his mother." Read more...

GIANTS' TERRELL THOMAS WILL TRY REHABILITATING ACL INJURY IN HOPES OF RETURNING (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants_terrell_thomas_will_try.html)

Excerpt: "Terrell Thomas flew all over the country (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants_optimistic_on_thomas.html) in search of the answer he wanted.
Well, he got it.

Tom Coughlin announced after today’s practice the Giants (http://www.nj.com/giants)’ cornerback is on his way back after the team’s doctors, his surgeon and noted orthopedic surgeon James Andrews conferred and decided Thomas can try rehabbing his knee, which swelled at the start of camp (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/07/giants_terrell_thomas_suffers.html)." THOMAS HEADED BACK TO GIANTS' CAMP FOR REHAB, HOPING TO AVOID SURGERY (http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/giantsblog/thomas_headed_back_surgery_giants_lzT7gpYMxAQmbBA3 p9xYTL)

Excerpt: "Tom Coughlin delivered the long-awaited news on cornerback Terrell Thomas and afterward was asked if this was the best-case scenario for the Giants.

“I think it is,’’ Coughlin said Monday afternoon following practice at the University at Albany.

Thomas is headed back here as soon as possible to begin a rehabilitation program on his right knee, which was feared to have suffered another season-ending injury to his anterior cruciate ligament. Thomas missed the entire 2011 season with a torn right ACL and he went down early in camp this summer with what the Giants reported as another injury to the ACL. If further surgery was needed, his 2012 season would have been over before it started." Read more...

GIANTS' NICKS TAKES NEXT STEP IN REHAB BY RUNNING ROUTES (http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/giantsblog/giants_nicks_takes_next_step_in_gcApz6IrglUTQ4Of9n NhbJ)

Excerpt: "Hakeem Nicks has taken steps toward a complete recovery from a broken foot and on Tuesday he takes another, more significant one when he runs routes for the first time since breaking a bone in his right foot back on May 24.

Nicks had previously tested his foot with straight-ahead running and on Monday did some running in circles to test the outside of his foot. Running routes is the next step in the progression.

“I’m excited about running some routes and getting to see where I’m at,’’ Nicks said." Read more...

THE BERGEN RECORD

NO MORE BOOT FOR JUSTIN TRATTOU (http://www.northjersey.com/sports/165228196_No_more_boot_for_Justin_Trattou.html)

Excerpt: "Justin Trattou got the walking boot off his sprained left ankle Sunday, taking another step toward his return to the field in training camp. The Franklin Lakes (http://boards.giants.com/franklinlakes) native was off to a great start in his second year with the Giants at defensive end, but got injured in the second practice of camp nine days ago.
X-rays were negative and an MRI revealed a lateral sprain, which was a sigh of relief for Trattou, who was a star in practice in his quest to replace Dave Tollefson as the fourth defensive end behind Jason Pierre-Paul, Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck." Read more...

PRACTICE 411:PRINCE WATCHES PRACTICE (http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/giants/post/_/id/15668/practice-411-prince-watches-practice)

Excerpt: " On the same day the Giants got positive news about (http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/8240700/terrell-thomas-new-york-giants-rehab-knee-injury)Terrell Thomas (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/11297/terrell-thomas), cornerback Prince Amukamara (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/13975/prince-amukamara) had to sit out practice because of a hamstring issue.

Head coach Tom Coughlin didn't sound too concerned and called it a "little bit" of a hamstring injury. LB Michael Boley (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/8574/michael-boley) (hamstring) returned to practice. But LB Jacquian Williams (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/14199/jacquian-williams), LB Jake Muasau (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/15648/jake-muasau) and LT Will Beatty (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/12610/will-beatty) also did not practice. DT Dwayne Hendricks (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/13082/dwayne-hendricks) appeared to suffer an injury to his knee -- Coughlin said there was initial concern about his MCL -- but was up on the sideline moving around afterward.

Coughlin said the news regarding Beatty is positive, but the left tackle "does have some sciatic nerve issues and they are trying to eliminate that." The team is being very cautious with Beatty.

Here are some observations from Monday's practice:" Read more...
