NEWARK STAR LEDGER

GIANTS' ROOKIE JAYRON HOSLEY'S INTERCEPTION RETURNED FOR A TOUCHDOWN WAS A VERY IMPRESSIVE PLAY (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants_rookie_jayron_hosleys_i.html)

Excerpt: "I obviously saw the play by Jayron Hosley (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants-jets_preseason_giants_d.html) live Saturday night. I watched the replay as they showed it in the stadium and on the TVs in the press box.
But I really didn’t get the chance to appreciate the play by the Giants (http://www.nj.com/giants)' rookie for all it was until today when I watched it in the comfort of my living room.Hosley’s interception and 77-yard touchdown return was crazy good for an experienced veteran, let alone a rookie in his second preseason game." GIANTS - JETS PRESEASON: TIM TEBOW VISIBLY FRUSTRATED WITH OFFENSIVE LINE IN LOSS (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants-jets_preseason_tim_tebo.html)

Excerpt "The night began so well for Tim Tebow.
When he took the field at MetLife Stadium as a Jet for the first time Saturday night, he immediately orchestrated the Jets' best drive. He completed his first three passes for 35 yards and only a poor throw on the run to a wide open Stephen Hill in the end zone prevented Tebow from scoring the Jets' first preseason touchdown. The Jets settled for a field goal, their only points in a 26-3 drubbing at the hands of the Giants. It was downhill from there. He finished 5-of-14 for 69 yards. He was sacked three times and hit a few more. And for the first time in a Jets uniform, he was visibly frustrated." Read more...

GIANTS - JETS PRESEASON: GIANTS' VICTOR CRUZ UP TO THE CHALLENGE OF THE JETS; SECONDARY (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants-jets_preseason_giants_v.html)

Excerpt: "LaRon Landry warned him. The hard-hitting safety told Victor Cruz that if he went over the middle, it would be painful. Landry was right. On the next play, Cruz caught a pass 20 yards downfield, and as soon as he turned up field, 220 pounds of muscle mass awaited.

Landry clocked Cruz, leveling his shoulder into Cruz’s chest, his helmet jamming Cruz underneath his face mask — a hit that may result in a fine from the league office. He stood over the wide receiver to mark his territory. But it didn’t matter. Cruz had done his job and performed an elongated first-down celebration in front of Landry to let him know." Read more...

GIANTS - JETS PRESEASON: TIM TEBOW STARTS FAST, BUT FINISHES POORLY (http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2012/08/giants-jets_preseason_tim_tebo.html)

Excerpt: "Tim Tebow spent the time following his first drive packed in a tight huddle with Greg McElroy and Matt Simms that circled offensive coordinator Tony Sparano.
With his arm around the coach’s back, they went over his first 14 plays, which yielded a 68-yard drive and the offense’s first points of the night — a 30-yard Josh Brown field goal with 3:28 to go in the third quarter. That was the good, the fact the lifeless Jets offense registered points on the scoreboard against a Giants defense that had toyed with it for the better part of two quarters in a 26-3 preseason loss at MetLife Stadium Saturday night." GIANTS - JETS PRESEASON: GIANTS' AHMAD BRADSHAW APPARENT HAND INJURY IS NOTHING SERIOUS (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants-jets_preseason_giants_a.html)

Excerpt: "The Giants don’t have a lot of experienced players in their backfield behind Ahmad Bradshaw, so there was some serious nervousness for those in blue when the team’s starting running back headed to the locker room in the first quarter of last night’s preseason game against the Jets.
There were also held breaths when team physician Russ Warren examined the area near the knuckle of Bradshaw’s right index finger and then looked at the X-rays.
The results were negative. As a refresher, that’s positive." Read more...

GIANTS - JETS PRESEASON: GIANTS' DEFENSE IMPRESSIVE IN 26 - 3 WIN OVER JETS (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants-jets_preseason_giants_d.html)

Excerpt: "The past few weeks in training camp, whenever a Giants defensive player picked off a pass, he got a lead “block” on the return all the way to the end zone from a yelping Perry Fewell.

Saturday night, it wasn’t the Giants’ defensive coordinator but Osi Umenyiora who escorted rookie Jayron Hosley on a 77-yard interception return — the biggest play of the defense’s impressive, confidence-instilling, chemistry-building night in the 26-3 preseason victory over the Jets at MetLife Stadium.

“I caught a replay and saw him. He was the first one in the end zone,” Hosley said of Umenyiora. “It’s good to see you have the support of the guys around you, man. It was good. It was good.” Read more...

HOSLEY UPDATE: LOOKS LIKE TURF TOE (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2012/08/hosley-update-looks-like-turf-toe)

Excerpt: "The Giants still aren’t quite sure when cornerback Jayron Hosley hurt his right foot, but they have figured out the nature of the rookie’s injury.
“They’re going to deal with this as a turf toe kind of issue,” coach Tom Coughlin said. “It’s a toe issue. Hopefully nothing will turn up in terms of the tests.” Read more...

JPP PRANK VIDEO GOES VIRAL: TO COUGHLIN NOT HAPPY (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2012/08/jpp-prank-video-goes-viral-coughlin-not-pleased)

Excerpt: "It may have just been a locker room prank, but as far as Tom Coughlin is concerned it should’ve never left the locker room.

A video of Jason Pierre-Paul carrying Prince Amukamara and dumping him into a tub of cold water became an internet sensation on Saturday night when it was Tweeted by the man who apparently filmed it, Giants punter Steve Weatherford. The video features some harsh language and parts that even Coughlin said were “inappropriate.” Read more...

MARK SANCHEZ AND THE NY JETS GET UP-CLOSE LOOK AT HOW SCARY JUSTIN TUCK, JASON PIERRE-PAUL AND THE GIANTS' DEFENSE CAN BE WHEN EVERYTHING IS CLICKING
(http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/giants/mark-sanchez-ny-jets-up-close-scary-justin-tuck-jason-pierre-paul-ny-giants-defense-clicking-article-1.1139657)
Excerpt: "If Tom Coughlin had any concerns about his defense based on the unit’s performance in the first preseason game at Jacksonville last weekend, they were easily pushed aside with the performance against the Jets at MetLife Stadium on Saturday night.

The Giants, employing their NASCAR package, left tread marks all over the Jets’ offensive line on the way to quarterback Mark Sanchez (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Mark+Sanchez) in the first half of their 26-3 preseason victory (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/giants/mark-sanchez-tim-tebow-ny-jets-offense-sputter-ny-giants-preseason-battle-article-1.1139467).

Jets right tackle Wayne Hunter, who contributed to the three sacks of Sanchez in the first half, shouldn’t be too tough on himself. This Giants defense is going to beat plenty of better tackles and pave the way for a lot of wins." Read more...

BLUE'S BRADSHAW BANGS HAND, X-RAYS NEGATIVE (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/giants/ahmad-bradshaw-injures-hand-ny-giants-preseason-win-x-rays-negative-article-1.1139534)

Excerpt: "The Giants were sure things couldn’t get any worse for their running game after the way they performed last season. But that was before they lost Ahmad Bradshaw (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Ahmad+Bradshaw)
on Saturday night with an injured hand.

The champs’ top running back was forced from the Giants’ 26-3 win over the Jets after just three carries with what the team said was a swollen right hand. According to Bradshaw, he had been bothered lately by an “aggravating” cyst on the hand, and it burst when his hand collided with someone’s helmet." Read more...

CHAMPS AND CHUMPS (http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/jets/sanchez_tebow_can_move_offense_vs_Izffl9yBdRTcYoSx jkZZaL)

Excerpt: "The Giants walked away with the Snoopy trophy last night in the “MetLife Bowl.” The Jets? Well, they played like what Charlie Brown has to scoop up behind Snoopy.

The 2012 Jets offense looked an awful lot like the 2011 offense last night — awful being the key word. The starters played just a half, but could produce nothing. They scored no points, had a turnover for a touchdown, and right tackle Wayne Hunter contributed to three of seven sacks allowed in a 26-3 loss to Big Blue.
It did not matter whether Mark Sanchez or Tim Tebow was at quarterback. The Giants dominated both offensive units of the Jets." Read more...

HOSLEY COW: GIANTS PLAY INJURES ROOK (http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/giants/hosley_cow_giant_play_injures_rook_E1pVc0yaKC6Nz0P pBcL8JK)

Excerpt: "If Jayron Hosley wanted to high-step more in the Giants’ locker room, that would have been hard.
The Giants’ impressive rookie cornerback delivered the night’s most dynamic play in his team’s 26-3 romp over the Jets at MetLife Stadium, intercepting Mark Sanchez and scampering down the sidelines for a 77-yard second-quarter pick-six. Hosley high-stepped the final few yards of his jaunt for good measure. But Hosley’s right foot was, surprisingly, in a postgame boot.
The third-round pick out of Virginia Tech said he wasn’t sure when he hurt the foot or how he hurt it, nor was he sure of what the “hurt” actually was. He’s due for tests today, which is alarming for the Giants, who called it an injury to his foot/toe." Read more...

RANDLE LEAPS INTO THE MIX FOR # 3 WR (http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/giants/randle_leaps_into_mix_for_no_wideout_01fA5eLXOK5mq WS1nBQzpI)

Excerpt: "The battle for the Giants’ No. 3 receiver job is wide open, and thus far none of the candidates has emerged as the clear-cut favorite. Rookie Rueben Randle, though, made a nice push forward when he leaped with Jets cornerback Julian Posey in the third quarter of last night’s 26-3 preseason victory and hauled in David Carr’s pass for a 49-yard reception.

“It was a nice play, a very nice play,’’ coach Tom Coughlin said. “I would’ve liked to see him block a little better when he had an opportunity.’’

As a veteran, Domenik Hixon has a leg up for the third receiver spot. His only catch on the night was a 4-yard completion, but it came on third-and-1 and Hixon had to reach up against Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis to make the grab." Read more...

BIG BLUE DEFENSE ROLLS, BRADSHAW HURTS HAND (http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/jets/jints_lightful_sT0uvSN1kaQywP5kGP1nOJ)

Excerpt: "The Giants battered Mark Sanchez and the Jets last night in a one-sided 26-3 preseason thrashing, but a wrap on the right hand of Ahmad Bradshaw was evidence the Giants didn’t come out unscathed.

Bradshaw had just three rushing attempts and then exited to the locker room for X-rays of his right hand, which the Giants said came back negative. Bradshaw didn’t return, though, and left the locker room with a heavy black wrap covering his right hand.

“I’m fine,’’ Bradshaw said afterward.

As it turns out, Bradshaw said he has had a cyst on the top of his right hand for some time and, “We didn’t know what do to with it.’’ Read more...

GIANTS' ELI MANNING: WE'RE MAKING PROGRESS (http://www.giants101.com/2012/08/19/new-york-giants-eli-manning-were-making-progress/)

Excerpt: "As the New York Giants emerged victorious (http://www.giants101.com/2012/08/18/new-york-giants-dismantle-new-york-jets-26-3-to-win-metlife-bowl-ii/) from their second preseason game against the New York (http://www.giants101.com/tag/new-york/) Jets, there was a mixed bag of performances that should give fans pause as they try to get a feel for this team. Sure, Jayron Hosely's interception, Rueben Randle (http://www.giants101.com/tag/rueben-randle/)'s catch, Martellus Bennett (http://www.giants101.com/tag/martellus-bennett/)'s blocking and even the score of the game were all signs that Big Blue is coming along. However, the Giants still had poor run blocking, Eli Manning threw an ugly interception and the team made a series of mental errors on offense that resulted in some embarrassing three-and-outs." Excerpt: "Here is some of what was being said after the New York Giants (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/new-york-giants) dominated the New York Jets (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/new-york-jets) Saturday night, winning 26-3.
"I thought that Lawrence Tynes (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2407/lawrence-tynes) performed very, very well tonight. I thought that both defenses, the Jets defense and the Giants defense, played very well. Certainly I was pleased to win the game, that’s the idea. We got a chance to play a lot of people again. I was not pleased with the interception. I was not pleased with the blocked punt. We’re going to have to go back and work on that. We certainly have a lot of work to do and a long way to go. Some people had a chance to step up tonight and played very well, particularly on the defensive side of the ball with some individual plays that stood out, offensively as well. For the second preseason game I was glad to see the improvement, particularly we saw improvement on the defensive side of the ball, but we’ve got a lot of work to do." Read more...

GIANTS TOP JETS 26 - 3 (http://insidefootball.com/blog/archives/4975)

Excerpt: "Rookie cornerback Jayron Hosley scored a 77-yard interception return for a touchdown, and kicker Lawrence Tynes hit all four of his field goal attempts as the New York Giants topped the New York Jets 26-3 in the annual summer MetLife Bowl.

The Giants, whose defense sacked Jets quarterbacks Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow seven times, held the Jets to just 148 net yards, including an impressive 65 yards on the ground, a significant improvement from a week ago when they were gashed by the Jaguars for 156 yards." Read more...

Starting running back Ahmad Bradshaw, who was spotted on the sideline wearing what looked like a cast on his right wrist, said that his injury was simply a burst cyst that he had for a while at the top of his wrist, and that his cast was nothing more than a compression sleeve to help keep the swelling down." But when inserted into the game against the Jets, Hixon, who last week sat out the preseason game opener with a strained hamstring, Hixon found it was like riding a bicycle.

“Once we snapped the ball for the first play, it was kind of not even missing a step, which felt real good,” he said of his lone reception in the game, a four-yard grab.

CRUZ SHOWS LANDRY A "LITTLE BIT OF SWAGGER" (http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/giants/post/_/id/16036/notebook-cruz-shines-against-jets-again)

Excerpt: "On the Giants' first offensive play from scrimmage Saturday night,Eli Manning (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/5526/eli-manning) launched a bomb for Victor Cruz (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/13553/victor-cruz) down the right sideline.

And Cruz had a step or two on Darrelle Revis (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/10458/darrelle-revis). Manning led Cruz a tad too far out of bounds on the nearly 40-yard toss. But the Giants opened the game intent on getting Cruz the ball. He was targeted eight times, and finished with five receptions for 51 yards.

Cruz's longest catch of the night was a 21-yard reception in the first quarter. Cruz paid for the catch, as LaRon Landry (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/10451/laron-landry) popped him hard across the middle. But the receiver hung onto the ball and promptly got up and signaled for the first down.

"[Landry] was kinda telling me the whole game he wanted to lay one on me," Cruz said. "Once they called that route, I was trying to stay away from him as much as possible, but he got a pretty good lick on me. You know I had to get up with a little bit of swagger. HOSLEY SCORES ON PICK, HURTS FOOT (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/Giants-Hosley-scores-on-pick-hurts-right-foot-05538349)

Excerpt: "As much as Jayron Hosley talked about his 77-yard interception return after the New York Giants (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/new-york-giants/67056)' preseason win over the New York Jets (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/new-york-jets/67057), there was something else that made the Virginia Tech rookie cornerback stand out. It was the walking boot on his right foot.Hosley seemingly hurt the foot on his game-breaking, second-quarter play on Saturday night, and he wasn't sure about the extent of his injury after the Giants' 26-3 win over their local rivals.''I couldn't tell you right now,'' Hosley said when asked how he hurt his foot. ''I felt a little something in it and just went to the trainer. Got to get more tests on it.'' Read more...

Excerpt: "Where to start with the defending champions? Despite only sneaking into the playoffs with a 9-7 record, the Giants turned it on when it mattered during an amazing postseason run and took home the Lombardi trophy. As is their way, they largely stayed away from the free agent market, instead looking to the draft to replace their departing players.

The NFC East appears to have improved around them however, and the Giants are going to need to win more games against divisional opponents in 2012 to return to the playoffs. Time to look at some causes for optimism and concern." Read more...

Of course the oline needs some chemistry. I am not and havent ever been sold on Beatty. Just dont think he has the mean streak to be a consistent LT.
Actually my only concern is the oline....
