NEWARK STAR LEDGER

GIANTS' DAVID WILSON GETS FIRST TEAM REPS AT PRACTICE TODAY AHEAD OF DJ WARE (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants_david_wilson_gets_first.html)
Excerpt: "On Saturday against the Jets, D.J. Ware dropped a screen pass, had trouble finding holes and allowed Aaron Maybin to get past him for a blocked punt.

Today, Ware was behind Giants (http://www.nj.com/giants) rookieDavid Wilson on the depth chart, though Tom Coughlin claimed that was the plan all along and not necessarily a reaction to Ware’s performance on Saturday, particularly Ware’s gaining only 15 yards on 11 carries.“I don’t know about that aspect of it,” Coughlin said when asked if he was unhappy with the way Ware ran the ball. “Of course, he dropped the screen and that was right after the punt protection, so maybe that was on his mind. We’d like him to move forward but that was a big issue, obviously.“But no, this was scheduled. David’s going to move up and get some plays with the 1s.” Read more...

GIANTS' TOM COUGHLIN SAYS COLD TUB VIDEO "INAPPROPRIATE ON A COUPLE LEVELS" (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants_tom_coughlin_says_cold.html)

Excerpt: ""First, the language was inappropriate," he said. "No doubt about that. Anytime you have a player that could be injured, that's not a good move and I would be concerned about that as well."
Coughlin, who addressed his team about it this morning, said Steve Weatherford was wrong to post the video online "because there's trust in the locker room.""You don't think for one minute that would've happened if they said this was going to be public," Coughlin said." Read more...

GIANTS' AMERICA'S GAME BROADCAST: A FEW DETAILS ON THE PRODUCTION EMERGE (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants_americas_game_broadcast.html)
Excerpt: "One of the more hotly anticipated parts of winning a Super Bowl for fans is the "America's Game" broadcast NFL Films and the NFL Network produce each year.
They do such a tremendous job with those productions and I know you folks can't wait for the details on the fourth installment featuring the Giants (http://www.nj.com/giants), so here are a few that were emailed to me today by the NFL Network's public relations staff:--Alec Baldwin is the narrator. He also did the one for the 1990 team (http://www.amazon.com/NFL-Americas-Game-1990-Giants/dp/B00127QN6K)." Read more...

GIANTS' HAKEEM NICKS TO PRACTICE WITH TEAM FOR FIRST TIME SINCE BREAKING FOOT (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants_hakeem_nicks_to_practic.html)

Excerpt: "The Giants’ players have been through training camp and two preseason games. Now, here comes Hakeem Nicks onto the practice field for the first time since breaking his foot in the spring.

“I might have some fresh legs. That’s the good thing about it,” the Giants’ wide receiver said with a grin today. “But I’m just excited to be back out there practicing with the team. I can’t wait to start going for real.” Read more...

AHMAD BRADSHAW'S HAND OK, BUT GIANTS WANT TO ESTABLISH DJ WARE AND DAVID WILSON (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/giants/ahmad-bradshaw-hand-ny-giants-establish-backups-ware-david-wilson-article-1.1139896)

Excerpt: "With two preseason games remaining and only 16 days until the opener at home against Dallas, it’s not clear who is ready to fill Brandon Jacobs’ shoes as the No. 2 running back behind the injury-prone Bradshaw. It figures to be either D.J. Ware or first-round pick David Wilson (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/David+Wilson), but they combined for a measly 41 yards on 19 carries in the Giants’ 26-3 win over the Jets on Saturday night.

Each of them did some good things.

Neither did anything that made Tom Coughlin comfortable enough to say they had the job.
“We didn’t have any really breakout runs to speak of,” the coach said on a conference call on Sunday. “It was pretty inconsistent, and some choppiness. Each one of the guys seemed to have a play or two that was good and a play or two that was bad.” Read more...

GIANTS' ROOKIE JAYRON HOSLEY'S INTERCEPTION RETURNED FOR A TOUCHDOWN WAS A VERY IMPRESSIVE PLAY (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants_rookie_jayron_hosleys_i.html)

Excerpt: "I obviously saw the play by Jayron Hosley (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants-jets_preseason_giants_d.html) live Saturday night. I watched the replay as they showed it in the stadium and on the TVs in the press box.
But I really didn’t get the chance to appreciate the play by the Giants (http://www.nj.com/giants)' rookie for all it was until today when I watched it in the comfort of my living room.Hosley’s interception and 77-yard touchdown return was crazy good for an experienced veteran, let alone a rookie in his second preseason game." GIANTS - JETS PRESEASON: TIM TEBOW VISIBLY FRUSTRATED WITH OFFENSIVE LINE IN LOSS (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/08/giants-jets_preseason_tim_tebo.html)

Excerpt "The night began so well for Tim Tebow.
When he took the field at MetLife Stadium as a Jet for the first time Saturday night, he immediately orchestrated the Jets' best drive. He completed his first three passes for 35 yards and only a poor throw on the run to a wide open Stephen Hill in the end zone prevented Tebow from scoring the Jets' first preseason touchdown. The Jets settled for a field goal, their only points in a 26-3 drubbing at the hands of the Giants. It was downhill from there. He finished 5-of-14 for 69 yards. He was sacked three times and hit a few more. And for the first time in a Jets uniform, he was visibly frustrated." Read more...

HOSLEY UPDATE: LOOKS LIKE TURF TOE (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2012/08/hosley-update-looks-like-turf-toe)

Excerpt: "The Giants still aren’t quite sure when cornerback Jayron Hosley hurt his right foot, but they have figured out the nature of the rookie’s injury.
“They’re going to deal with this as a turf toe kind of issue,” coach Tom Coughlin said. “It’s a toe issue. Hopefully nothing will turn up in terms of the tests.” Read more...

JPP PRANK VIDEO GOES VIRAL: TO COUGHLIN NOT HAPPY (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2012/08/jpp-prank-video-goes-viral-coughlin-not-pleased)

Excerpt: "It may have just been a locker room prank, but as far as Tom Coughlin is concerned it should’ve never left the locker room.

A video of Jason Pierre-Paul carrying Prince Amukamara and dumping him into a tub of cold water became an internet sensation on Saturday night when it was Tweeted by the man who apparently filmed it, Giants punter Steve Weatherford. The video features some harsh language and parts that even Coughlin said were “inappropriate.” Read more...

GIANTS' HENRY HYNOSKI WANTS MORE CARRIES (http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/giants/crash_carry_6sDIE2SJDQ0Ahv7w3tRwyK)

Excerpt: "No, Henry Hynoski did not ask to keep the football.

“Hopefully,’’ he said with a smile, “I’ll have many opportunities to keep a football.’’

Noting that Hynoski’s words are accompanied by a smile is a bit of a redundancy, considering he’s grinning more often than he’s not — a sharp contrast to the temperament required in his job description. There’s little glory for a 266-pound fullback asked to collide with a defensive lineman or linebacker on virtually every play. Blocking fullbacks may be born with long necks, but they don’t stay that way." Read more...

HOSLEY'S PICK SIX HAS IT'S UPS AND DOWNS FOR GIANTS (http://www.northjersey.com/sports/Jayron_Hosleys_pick-six_has_its_up_down_for_Giants.html)Excerpt: "
Jayron Hosley’s game-changing interception Saturday night for the Giants had just about everything you would expect from someone destined to be an All-Pro cornerback.

Instincts. Anticipation. Execution.
The eye-opening play even finished with a flourish: Hosley high-stepping the final 8 yards or so into the end zone for a rousing touchdown that all but buried the Jets in the Giants’ 26-3 preseason victory at MetLife Stadium.

That last part, of course, turned out to also be unfortunately fitting for a rookie whose eagerness to celebrate the moment may have caused an injury." Read more...

HENRY HYNOSKI MAY GIVE THE GIANTS ADDITIONAL SHORT YARDAGE OPTIONS (http://www.giants101.com/2012/08/20/henry-hynoski-may-give-new-york-giants-additional-short-yardage-options/)

Excerpt: "Fullback Henry Hynoski is not going to carry the ball early or often, but as he did against the New York (http://www.giants101.com/tag/new-york/) Jets on Saturday night, he may hit opposing teams with the occasional surprise attack.

Hynoski's two-yard plunge for a first down on 3rd-and-1 wasn't anticipated. It never so much as crossed the minds of Gang Green, nor did it cross minds of those watching the game. Not because it wasn't possible, but because it had never happened before. It was, literally, Hynoski's very first carry as a member of the New York Giants (http://www.giants101.com/tag/new-york-giants/)." Read more...

GIANTS' JAYRON HOSLEY SUFFERS "TURF TOE KIND OF ISSUE" (http://www.giants101.com/2012/08/19/new-york-giants-jayron-hosley-suffers-turf-toe-kind-of-issue/)

Excerpt: "The good news for New York (http://www.giants101.com/tag/new-york/) Giants rookie cornerback Jayron Hosley (http://www.giants101.com/tag/jayron-hosley/) is that his foot issue is not of the worst case variety. The bad news is that he may still miss a little time with what head coach Tom Coughlin (http://www.giants101.com/tag/tom-coughlin/) called a "turf toe kind of issue." Additional tests are forthcoming." Read more...

GIANTS' RUNNING GAME: ARE THERE SIGNS OF PROGRESS? (http://www.bigblueview.com/2012/8/20/3255192/new-york-giants-running-game-are-there-signs-of-progress)

Excerpt: "Improving the running game has been a focus for the New York Giants (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/new-york-giants)ever since planning for the 2012 season began. Last season's difficulties have been well documented -- last in the league with just 89.2 yards per game, and an average of just 3.5 yards per carry.

Are the Giants making any progress in this area of their offense? Sunday against the the New York Jets
it certainly did not look like it. The Giants ran 32 times for a pitiful 58 yards, just 1.8 yards per carry. Through two games the Giants are averaging 92.0 yards rushing per game and only 3.2 yards per carry." Read more...

JAYRON HOSLEY INJURY: TOM COUGHLIN DESCRIBES IT AS "TURF TOE KIND OF ISSUE" (http://www.bigblueview.com/2012/8/19/3253753/jayron-hosley-injury-news-turf-toe-tom-coughlin-giants-vs-jets)

Excerpt: "The New York Giants (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/new-york-giants) might have dodged a bullet Saturday evening as Jayron Hosley (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/154922/jayron-hosley)'s foot injury does not appear to be as bad as first thought. Tom Coughlin said the team is conducting more tests, but for now itappears to be a turf toe issue (https://twitter.com/RVacchianoNYDN/status/237256986956267520).

Coughlin indicated Hosley would be very sore on an injuryhe reportedly suffered during his interception return (http://www.bigblueview.com/2012/8/19/3253278/giants-26-jets-3-post-game-quotebook-score-recap-nfl-preseason-jayron-hosley) for a touchdown. PRINCE AMUKAMARA VIDEO SHOULDN'T BE A BIG DEAL, BACKLASH ACTUALLY QUITE RIDICULOUS (http://network.yardbarker.com/nfl/article_external/prince_amukamara_hazing_video_shouldnt_be_a_big_de al_backlash_actually_quite_ridiculous/11504119)

Excerpt: "Prince Amukamara received an unexpected bath recently, but the New York Giants are hardly getting away squeaky clean. The practice of pranking rookies and forcing them to do stupid things dates back years. The practice of hazing a sophomore seems like a relatively new concept, but the G-Men have already mastered the art. Not everyone's onboard with their movement, however, and those concerned mother hens need to relax." Read more...

INSIDE FOOTBALL

THE DAY AT CAMP: AUGUST 20, 2012 (http://insidefootball.com/blog/archives/4996)

Excerpt: "* After having an interception go off his hands earlier in the practice, Jacquian Williams, in his first day back from a hip injury, came up with an interception of a pass deflected by Dan DePalma.

* CB Prince Amukamara came up with the play of the practice with a leaping interception of a pass that he took to the house. Amukamara naturally received a sideline escort by the excited Perry Fewell, who has served as a personal sideline escort this summer every time one of his guys gets an interception.

* WR Domenik Hixon had a nice showing today, missing only one of the passes thrown his way. He beat Justin Tryon on a crossing pattern over the middle, separating well.

* WR Hakeem Nicks, back to work for the first time since May, made a nice back shoulder reception along the left sideline against Corey Webster. Nicks also hauled in an over the shoulder fade from Eli Manning for a touchdown. In the corner of the end zone." Read more...

COUGHLIN WANTS TO SEE MORE CONSISTENCY FROM THE RUNNING GAME (http://insidefootball.com/blog/archives/4986)

Excerpt: "It’s well known by now that last season, the Giants’ running game was last in the league with an average of 89.9 rushing yards per game, a statistic that the team is hoping isn’t the start of a trend.

And while preseason games don’t count in the standings, the fact that the Giants running game had its share of trouble during Saturday’s pre-season contest against the Jets is something that didn’t sit too well with head coach Tom Coughlin." Read more...

GIANTS INSIST THEY WEREN'T HAZING (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/new-york-giants-prince-amukamara-jason-pierre-paul-insist-no-hazing-082012)

Excerpt: "Amukamara and Jason Pierre-Paul (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/jason-pierre-paul/766431), the Pro Bowl defensive end who threw him into the metal ice tub, maintained Monday that they are friends and there was nothing personal involved.Neither would say what triggered the incident. Most players on the Super Bowl champions (No. 3 in the AP Pro32) seemed more concerned that punter Steve Weatherford (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/steve-weatherford/420049) actually posted the video, and that it might give youngsters the idea that bullying and hazing are OK.''First of all, absolutely none of us condone bullying,'' defensive captain Justin Tuck (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/justin-tuck/299997) said. ''We've heard that. So just go ahead and put it out there. None of us condone bullying. And you don't want to put anybody in a situation where they can get hurt. With that said, we just got to do a better job of being conscious of how that looks and how people can perceive it.'' Read more...

Dont see many FBs getting the ball anymore.....

I think if we give him the ball once or twice a game, he catches a pass or two here and there and it's just something else for them to worry about. It could be very effective if Pascoe, the only other veteran FB, is on the field at the same time
