View Full Version : Diehl is better at Left Outside Guard than Beatty!

1,) Diehl was Awful at "Inside Guard" I think he's best suited at Right "Outside Guard" until Brewer is ready" but "right now he's our only option at LOG Position

2.) Petrus has been BETTER than Diehl at Left "Inside Guard" and as Awful as Diehl's been on the "Inside" seems he was NOT INTO it, Like it was a demotion to him? .. reguardless - he's been better than Beatty at Left "Outside" Guard

3.) We need to draft mid to High Rounds at "Center-Guard" and Left "Outside Guard" maybe Datko or Brewster? were pretty well stacked at other Line Positions w/. decent Depth IMO

I'll be nice to a fellow fan. I agree with you. Diehl is not the best tackle, but he is much better out there than he is in the guard position. The entire reshuffled line is playing much better since he slid back outside and we brought in Petrus and Boothe. Now if only Boothe could learn to snap better [:)]

He deserves to be on the bench with the way he's played this season. Beatty is no superstar, but he's a HUGE upgrade over Diehl.

100+ yards rushing! Zero sacks! (true Eli's quick decisions and pocket movement had something to do with it) I'm not the biggest Diehl fan (I think he'd make a better politician the way he loves to hear himself talk), but I think your exaggerating! He wasn't that horrible and Beatty was not much better! Now when he was at LG....that's a different story. He was HORRIBLE!!!

Diehl didn't even get a HAND on the pass rusher on multiple occasions, if not for Eli playing tremendous, that would have been a 10 sack allowed by Diehl game

Lol. I've gotta watch the game again! I was expecting a 5+ sack night with the makeshift line. Eli did look like he was on skates though. His pocket presence yesterday was great!

Actually it is a weak link, and i believe that was BAAS. Beatty wasn't playing bad, and he did not seem to get beat as often on the outside a David and Karrem would.

Next year imho should be. Beatty, Petrus, Boothe or a FA/Draft pick, Snee and at worse case move Diehl to RT, or again get a FA/Draft a new RT.

Imho that would be ideal, and then keep booth, keep poets if healthy and D2 as a back up.

If we move Diehl to RT kiss the season goodbye. We won't be able to run the ball at all and He'll get beat in pass protection worse that Kareem already does.

Diehl needs to take a paycut and then take a spot on the bench. He makes good depth at this point since he can play multiple spots.

Beatty is fine. Then go with Mitch then Booth snee and kareem unless we can even slightly upgrade Kareem in which case I say do it and let him retire or teach him guard so that he can be good depth.

Baas should be traded or forced to take a significant paycut.

Im going to be completely honest. Beatty sucks! This is coming straight from the heart after watching Beatty every game this season...the guy is soft and too mild mannered. Petrus is a beast in the inside and Diehl brings that competitive streak with him too. Diehl loves to compete....and loves being a Left Tackle. I think I would rather have Diehl at Right Tackle more than Mckenzie. This way a tight end can help chip a DE on the right side.

This line struggled because of Baas, Beatty, Mckenzie, and Reese's brilliant idea of thinking Diehl is a natural guard. Reese thought it was brilliant that he bring Baas in, after Baas played only 1 season at Center. The only thing that saved Reese this whole offseason is Victor Cruz and Kevin Boothe. People act like cutting Steve Smith was part of Reese's brilliant plan for Cruz.....In fact, no1 thought Cruz would be that good. We was lucky that Barden, Manningham and Stokley were all hurt. If any one of those guys were healthy, Cruz wouldnt of had much PT. So stop acting like this was part of Reeses great plan. Reese even thought Beckum could catch 35 balls...Im glad the coaching staff developed Jake Ballard.

Diehl was our worst lineman this year, I really don't care how "mean" or "competitive" he is. He needs to take those attributes to some other profession, maybe become a bouncer or something.

1, Beatty was playing as our best olineman till he got injured.

Eli has been sacked less with Diehl because the line as a whole is playing better.

Btw I do believe the most sacks given up by any olinman at their position was Diehl at LG..

So we have imrpoved primarily because while Diehl is a below average LT he is an even worse LG.

2. Boothe is good depth but his snaps have been horrible. Baas is our best center but has been affected by injuries.

3.McKenzie is too old and slow to be playing.

4. Snee is back to old form.

5. Petrus is just what the line needed.

Beatty-Petrus-Baas-Snee-Brewer is what I think our line should be next year.

Diehl has rated just as bad at LT as he did at LG. He has got to be replaced next year. Here are the year to date ratings on the OL:

Mckenzie -18.7
Diehl -36
Snee -5.3
Beatty -1.2
Baas -3.9
Boothe -6.4
Petrus -4.6

These are ratings from ProFootballFocus. The rate every player on every play from every game. Mckenzie has had a huge dropoff in play from last year, Snee a small drop off, and Diehl is worse than last year's awful rating. Last years ratings:

Mckenzie +23.6
Diehl -27
Snee +2.8
Beatty -4.7
Seubert +8.9
Boothe -10.8
O'Hara +0.5

Beatty as a first year starter did OK, and as a second year starter will probably get to a plus rating. Mckenzie is getting old, and he should probably be replaced too. We should have drafted OL in the second and third rounds instead of Austin and Jernigan. DL and WR are our strongest positions, OL and safety our weakest (except for Kenny Phillips, he's a stud).
