View Full Version : 2007 vs. 2011 - Scary Thought

NYG216

We all know how this season is starting to eerily feel like 2007... whether it is a "feel good" loss to an undefeated team, or getting blown out in Week 12 (41-17 to the Vikings in 2007).

But I just realized we also played Washington at home in week 15 in 2007... losing 22-10.

Let's hope that there is a different outcome on Sunday... but I also just watched the resiliency super bowl introduction again... and the only difference between this team and 2007 is the defense. It's really too bad how different it is.

Spags DC 2012.

*EDIT* Wow, with the defense playing like it has been... watch the resiliency video again.

i can understand people resenting any comparison to 07 bc it was such a special ride, all im saying, if you feel that way why open up a thread obviously about 07 only to tell the person what to post?

its asinine, again, i get why some one would be annoyed with the whole 07 to 11 comparison, but that does not mean one gets to tell another "dont post about it", i shouldnt have even butted in to be honest but it irks me when people think that bc some one else thinks differently, the mere fact that they think differently must mean they are wrong or shouldnt post. its the giants MB, we won the bowl in 07, and if some one finds similarities thats there perogative. if some one wants to debate the similarities thats all good, even if some one wants to share there disgust with the comparison; all good.

telling some one to stop posting something they think; not all good

I would like to defend bleedinblue27. I would expect nothing else posting on here.

While my intent was not really to compare teams... comparing the current situation is very creepy to me. There are just too many similarities in the schedule. I mean we even played the AFC East in 2007. If he wants to blast me for starting yet another thread on the subject, so be it. I think in my ten years on here I might have started ten total threads. I just hadn't heard about the week 15 schedule comparison before and thought it to be very strange.

You did nothing wrong at all. If u want to note the similarities to that magical season, then go for it.

People get so stupid whenever we bring up 07. So what? act like it didnt happen? wtf?

Imagine if we were eagles fans. We'd never be able to talk about a SB win...ever. A philly fan would kill to be able to reminisce about a SB....... let alone one in the past decade.

what exactly are the similarities again? NY lost to an undefeated team both years and played the AFC East?

-They lost to an undefeated team 38-35. Both games were deemed "feel good" losses.
-They were destroyed in Week 12... This year by the Saints, in 2007 by the Vikings. Of course this is also the typical Thanksgiving week loss that seems to happen every season.
-They play the Redskins at home in Week 15.
-Both seasons we started out 6-2
-Both seasons we played the AFC East
-Both seasons were plagued by injuries
-Both seasons had/have calls for Coughlin to be fired late in the season

Are there any others that I am missing?

Resiliency (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRsYROOO20w)

After watching that video yet again, the two major differences are that our road record isn't nearly as good (currently 4-3), and that we started off the season 0-1, not 0-2. Not to mention that the roles seemed to be flipped this year with our offense winning the games, not our defense.

No he can merely mention it, but constant compare and contrasts have been heavily exhausted.

I see similarities, and I see differences. The biggest difference being our defense. In 07, after the week two loss to Green Bay, all of us- players and fans- bought in to Spags and our defense. 2011 defense sucks, to put it bluntly. 2007, we had leaders. 2011, no leader to be found anywhere on defense. 2007 was hungrier. And the games we lost in 07, I always felt that we beat ourselves- that we didn't play our best football, and that a fluke play, bad call, or just a stupid turnover was the difference between us winning and losing. Not so much this year. The Saints game was an absolute BEATDOWN, and showed me our defense is nowhere near Super Bowl level. It'd be one thing if they were showing signs of improvement, but we should've lost the Dallas game! If Romo throws a better pass to Austin, our season is flat out 100% OVER right now. I felt optimistic in 07, I feel no optimism this year. Our offense is elite. But our defense is one of the worst in the league, in contrast to 07. These next three weeks will really be telling. If our defense miraculously starts playing good in these next games, then I'll feel better going into the playoffs. I see why and how you can compare the two teams, but their are also alot of big differences. Just my two cents.

PIERCEnumber58rules
12-17-2011, 12:35 PM
Oh, and I should've mentioned too that the 2011 Saints beatdown was nothing like the 2007 Vikings beatdown. Didn't Eli have like three pick 6's that game? It was easier for me to write that off as Eli having a bad game, whereas vs. the Saints, our defense just got pounded into a pile of rubble...

Scarry, your right about that, don't see Fewell turning the defense into the real deal like Spags, hasn't shown any adjustments or changes in his scheme, consistently giving up over 30 points a game, you are right on point, Scarry!

We will see how it plays out. This team has been up and down all year. If they can pull off two big wins against the jets and cowboys, they might have some momentum bringing them into the playoffs. I don't know what will happen, but I'm not counting them out yet.

Since my scary prediction was pretty much (unfortunately) dead on last week. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that just like in 2007 (in week 16) Bradshaw will rush us to a win. While in 2007 his run through the snow pretty much put us in the playoffs... this year he will put us on track to a playoff berth. What say you?

you are not wrong but as long we beat the jets we will beat the cowboys.
The last time a team played in the New york for week 1 and week 17 they had the same result (pats). So I believe as long as we beat the jets we WILL beat the cowboys.

I agree with that... although it makes me nervous to have a clinching game at home. I have flashbacks to the carolina game. Was that a clinching game, or was that just a game we had to win?

38-35 loss to the undefeated team that we beat in the Playoffs

The Redskins game in week 15.
The blowout loss in week 12.

Beating an NFC South team in the wildcard round.
Getting revenge on a team in the divisional round and possibly in the championship game just like 07.

Also that Victor Cruz 99 yard play is starting to remind me off Bradshaws 88 yard run in week 16 against the bills

If we win by a field goal in OT I better get myself prepared for a near heart attack. Would that mean that Tynes misses two potential game winners as well?

I was thinking that since we already played the packers that this game would be similar to the cowboys game. Only the cowboys had beaten us twice already (49ers just the one time this season). Does that mean the game ends with an interception in the endzone?

I realized before the game yesterday that most of my internet usernames have 711 in them because I consider 7 and 11 to be lucky numbers. Now I realize that the Giants made a tremendous run in 07 and are doing it again in 11. Maybe I will change my name to Nostradamas.

Nice... I didn't even think about that.

Maybe instead of the usual pizza and wings, I'll head over to 7-11 for a hot dog before the game. haha.
