That's what I'm hoping as well. He looked like he was seriously injured when he was stepped on. I guess the adrenalin just took over and it really started to bother him after the game. Let's hope it doesn't affect the outcome.

Giants' Hakeem Nicks now rules out for Panthers' game

http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/09/giants_hakeem_nicks_now_ruled.html#incart_river

Excerpt: "Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks, fresh off a 10-catch, 199-yard performance against the Buccaneers, will not play tomorrow night against the Panthers.

Nicks, who broke a bone in his right foot this offseason, was originally listed as questionable for the game but was later downgraded to out. He did not participate in this morning's jog-through and did not travel to North Carolina, according the team.

Both Nicks and coach Tom Coughlin said yesterday that Nicks would play this week. He did not practice yesterday, which Coughlin said was a planned rest day. Nicks has been playing through pain in his foot, and that pain was aggravated in Sunday's game, when Bucs safety Mark Barron accidentally stepped on his injured foot." Read more...

Time for Randle to step up and show what he's got. Also, Jernigan needs to come out of his shell and show something. Cruz will no doubt be double teamed, so these guys have to pick it up.

Remember last year we were on the road in a week 3 game without two of our WR’s (Manningham and Hixon)? I’m pretty sure that worked out well for us. Not saying Reuben or Barden will be that good but it’s just a reminder it’s not the end of the world for those who may be overreacting.

Beat the pats without nicks last year - big blow for sure. After all the times he came off limping I just think the short rest wasnt enough for him to play with this pain. Hopefully he is set for the following week. Barden randle and jernigan have to step up as does brown bennett hyno and even pascoe. Part of the game - no time to pout - LETS GO GET IT.

Why cant we wait to announce this crap... Now the Pathers D will prepare for it. We could of at least waited and kept him at questionable.

This sucks. Hopefully we are just resting him for the Eagles game.

Cruz is getting doubled now. Barden and Randle need to step up. Bring up DOUGLAS!!!

The giants injuries are usually not that bad, it's just Coughlin making final decisions on players regardless of how well they feel. And the schedule will get tough as the season goes on, and he will need Nicks more than ever. Plus he is also curious to see what he has on the WR's depth chart.

Keep it secret? The guy didnt travel with the team - reporters tend to pick up on that. Not to mention prep for the game has already taken place. This short week is going to do this to players from time to time.I am really hoping that is the reason. TC hoping to get by with Cruz and the 3 untested guys plus his TEs, FB and pass to the 3 RBs out of the backfield. This way he gets a full two weeks prior to that Eagle game on the 30th. HE is more impt to us in that game then for carolina IMO. AB as well. and hixon. depending on AB degree of neck injury could have all 3 back by the 30th. Need them for the divisonal games.

As a Panthers fan I am deeply saddened that even if we do manage to pull out a win it will be slightly tarnished because you guys will be missing one of your biggest weapons.

On a personal note this has got to be even more painful for Nicks himself who has probably had this homecoming of his marked down since the schedule came out, since he grew up in the shadow of Bank of America Stadium.

The Giants have not lost 3 of their top 5 corners. Webster, Amukamara, Hosley, Coe and Tryon all are playing Thursday. Thomas is the only real legit loss. Bruce Johnson and Brian Witherspoon are not better than Corey, Prince and Jayron. Maybe they'd be better than Coe and Tryon but that's debateable. Equivalent maybe.

SO PISSED!!! This sucks.....I really hope Randle/Barden/Jernigan can beat coverages and catch the ball, they'll need to do what Brown did in replacing Bradshaw last week.

I think Bennett becomes very important this game he gets open a lot and will have a lot of mismatches he just has to make the catch. Usually I'm yelling for the Giants to throw to open up the run but with Nicks out I think the Giants have to slow this game down with Brown and short completions by Eli. The Panthers are to explosive to be giving them extra possessions. I like JJ, Barden, and Randle but we are not sure what anyone of them can do so this will be a slow down grind out game without Nicks kinda like last years game against the Pats.

Beelzeboss

anyone know what the rules our for PS. Can Douglas be activated for 1 game then put back down to the PS when we get Hixon and Nicks back? We would have to de activate someone to that that though correct? Even though AB, Diehl, Nicks, Hixon all will be on the Inactive list this week they are still part of the 53. with 3 new guys added to this weeks inactive list in allows JJ to move up who was inactive last week. D. Scott will also be activated as long as he knee is okay, so that will leave one spot for another guy that sat last week. Maybe Ojomo if he is ready.

But would we have to send someone down to the PS or cut someone to Utilize Douglas so we have at least 5 WRs on the roster??

As much as we want to see him out there, I'm pretty sure Coughlin wants him out there even more, so if they sit him, it must be necessary.

I just hope Barden/Randle/Jernigan can really step up like Brown did last week. Carolina's pass D I think allowed the fewest yards so far this season and they faced Brees and Freeman (who torched us)....so it's certainly going to a be a challenge. Eli will need to be on his best performance as well. 3 picks won't cut it this time.

This sucks for you guys (and my FF team), but I don't see it impacting the game too much. In order for the Giants to win, it will be because of the defense (which was true even before Nicks was ruled out), they need to play better than they have. What makes you think thats not the case? A big divisional game is coming up that could have tremendous playoff implications down the road. You dont think TC or anyone else on the Giants has the ability to think? hmmm

If it is true, then it's stupid not to use Nicks for at least a few plays tomorrow.

If its only one game we'll be fine. We still have enough weapons on offense. Barden will have a good game. Hopefully Randle knows enough of the playbook to be #3. Jernigan has shown nothing so I'm not counting on him.

We also have a better OL now with Beatty back, and Andre Brown brings a new running style. On defense, Rivers and Prince are probable, and Hosley looks like a stud. Plenty of positives heading into this game even without Nicks.

WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED? What ruled him out? Is it for 1 game or for the year? Did someone step on his foot again?

Didnt ya watch the game last week? Aside from pulling a trailer around behind him all game (his defender), another TB player stomped on the back of his foot after a catch.

Next man up! I'm sure this news makes Dallas/Skins/Shegals fans rejoice & full of confidence that the Panthers will now win this game...but..I have faith that the players stepping in for our injured starters will go all out to prove they have what it takes to be starters & play tough, inspired NYG football!

This team knows that they have the NFLs toughest schedule & can't afford to lose games to teams they should beat. As much improved as Carolina looks, if the G-men play Giant football, we win this game going away!

He is one of the best WRs in the league so lets get his name right. It's Nicks not Hicks, lol

We still have Cruz though!

I'm sure Cruz will get doubled but hopefully one of the other WR's can capitalize.

We're in trouble, but IMO we're still a better team.

This the perfect game where Eli needs to utilize the screen & short dump off passes to Brown & Wilson & let them do some damage with their speed. Go deep a few times to keep em honest, but with us missing Nicks, I'd go for the high percentage passes to the TE & backs in this game. Also establishing a run game wouldn't hurt either.

The wins include the game in NE last year.doesnt matter. alot of those losses came early in this career when he was just getting going. He is the best option we have besides cruz and 6-0 or not W/O him, going forward we have the best chance of winning with him in there. I know NE was one of the games and overall what it is the rest of the TEAM really STEPS up to fill in the GAP when he is out. Wish they would play like that when we are 100% healthy

I know this was mentioned in this Thread but its worth mentioning again. Why did the giants come out and announce this yesterday. They could of held out and let it go up to game time (i realize he didnt make the trip) so it didnt give Carolina a whole lot of time to game plan for our other guys. Could of done the same with AB. I know its not that big a deal but i dont understand why you would give the other team any advantage no matter how small.

I am guessing that the minute Nicks did not make the trip that the media made the correct assumption....might not have been an official announcement by the Giants

i saw ankle on the ticker, not foot, which i know is another thing wrong, but i'd rather he have a low ankle sprain than foot problems that might be indication of setback or re-injury ... if his x-ray comes back negative, he will almost certainly be ready for the Eagles, but then again i'm no Dr.

I know its not that big a deal but i dont understand why you would give the other team any advantage no matter how small.I am an idiot. IN this day and age of the NFL with Fantasy Football and also the new CBA, coaches can no longer hide the fact that a player is going to be stratched. Now you can fiddle with the rules like BB does with the Pats but its not like the old days where they didnt have to tell the media anything. College is different in that respect. like what Lane Kiffen just did with his Center when asked if he be playing in the next USC game
