Giants' Andre Brown not worried about number of carries, just making the most of them

http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/09/giants_andre_brown_not_worried.html

Excerpt: "Andre Brown isn't worried about how many carries he'll receive this week. The Giants running back is only worried about maximizing each one.

"If I'm in a moment, if I'm in a groove, coach says he's going to go with the hot hand," Brown said today. "If Ahmad is in a groove, let the hot hand go. I'm just going out there and try to take advantage of every carry I get." Read more...

Giants - Eagles rivalry is stoked by events of the past and a general dislike of one another by both teams

http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/09/giants-eagles_rivalry_is_stoke.html

Excerpt: "When the Giants and Eagles line up against each other, as they will Sunday night at Lincoln Financial Field, one rule matters most.

“We don’t forget anything,” Giants defensive captain Justin Tuck said Tuesday. “I’m sure they don’t, either.”

That includes the Giants sacking Donovan McNabb a record 12 times in 2007, after which Tuck said the Eagles have “tried their best to block the crap out of us since.” Read more...

Giants' Lawrence Tynes named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/09/giants_lawrence_tynes_named_nf.html#incart_river

Excerpt: "Lawrence Tynes went a perfect 5-for-5 against the Carolina Panthers last week and as a result has been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Along with his three extra points, Tynes racked up 18 of the Giants' 36 points in their 36-7 blowout victory. His longest field goal Thursday night went for 49 yards and he also hit from 47, 30, 36 and 27." Read more...

Giants' Justin Tuck on Eagles' rivalry: "We don't forget anything"

Excerpt: "The Giants and the Eagles have a hotly contested rivalry, with the next installment coming Sunday night at Lincoln Financial Field.

As much as players often say the past is not a factor, defensive end Justin Tuck conceded history plays a role when the teams face off.

"We don't forget anything. I'm sure they don't, either," Tuck said today at the kickoff of his fifth annual R.U.S.H for Literacy initiative at Scholastic Books' headquarters. "They don't forget the 12-sack game against McNabb, because they've tried their best to block the crap out of us since then. And we don't forget McNabb going to the sideline picking up the phone, (DeSean Jackson) tossing the ball at Perry (Fewell), all different things. We'll handle that on Sunday night." Read more...

Giants' defense sets sights on Philadelphia Eagles' QB Michael Vick a week after shuuting down Panthers' Cam Newton

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/giants/ny-giants-defense-sets-sights-philadelphia-qb-michael-vick-a-week-shutting-panther-cam-newton-article-1.1167479

Excerpt: "Sunday afternoon presented a rare opportunity for many of the Giants. Thanks to another midweek game for the second time in the first three weeks of the season they got to be spectators of NFL games rather than participants.

Some of them tuned in to watch the Eagles-Cardinals - sort of like homework since they will play at Philadelphia this Sunday night. And what they witnessed the Cardinals defense do to Eagles quarterback Michael Vick (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Michael+Vick) must have had the Giants defensive players salivating at the prospects of lining up against Philadelphia.

The Cardinals defense pounded Vick into the turf, officially hitting him 13 times. He lost a fumble on a sack that was returned for a touchdown. He was charged with intentional grounding after retreating from the pressure and getting rid of the ball. That play took the Eagles out of field goal range.

It has been a running theme for defenses facing Vick in the first three games of the season. In those three games Vick has lost three fumbles, thrown six interceptions, thrown three TDs and run for another and has been sacked nine times. He has a 66.2 passer rating, which ranks him No. 29 in the NFL.

Bradshaw still the 1 in Giants' backfield

http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2012/09/bradshaw-still-the-1-in-giants-backfield

Excerpt: "Ahmad Bradshaw is still the Giants’ No. 1 back.

Tom Coughlin confirmed this morning that Bradshaw will start on Sunday night in Philadelphia, despite the impressive performance of Andre Brown while Bradshaw was dealing with a sprained neck. Brown, though, has “definitely” earned an increased role in the offense, giving the Giants’ a potentially potent 1-2 running back punch.

“There’s a long way to go and we’re just happy we had an opportunity to develop a player,” Coughlin said. “And they’ll all have a chance to contribute.”

Brown has rushed 33 times for 184 yards and three touchdowns in the two games he’s filled in for Bradshaw, since the incumbent injured his neck early against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2. Brown has even looked much better than Bradshaw did in his first game-plus, when he rushed for just 94 yards on 22 carries." Read more...

McCoy resorts to name calling in Osi spat

Excerpt: "Osi Umenyiora (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Osi+Umenyiora)'s favorite "Twitter gangster" is at it again, just in time to spice up the Giants-Eagles game on Sunday night.

Eagles running back LeSean McCoy (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/LeSean+McCoy) re-lit the fuse on his explosive feud with Umenyiora by blasting him as "a ballerina in a Giants uniform" and calling him the fourth best defensive end on his team. He made his comments on E:60, a special on their long-running feud that will air on ESPN on Tuesday night.

And though their feud has included some laugh-out-loud moments, "Shady" McCoy insists that it's "real".

"Yeah this is for real — like I don't like Osi," McCoy said in comments released by ESPN prior to the show. "I don't know how he feels. He might think it's a game, but I don't play them type of games. So every time on the field I would say stuff to him like 'You is a bum … You are the third best defensive lineman on the defense.' Which I didn't lie."Wait, I did lie. He's the fourth now, so I actually did lie." Read more...

Giants' Victor Cruz heads back top career-making spot

http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/giants/victor_dance_Xh9mXCj7wzy6iVxjuGnq5O

Excerpt: "There is no signage or plaque marking the significance of the site but Victor Cruz knows where and when it happened. Lincoln Financial Field is the home of the Eagles but it was where Cruz was born, in an NFL sense. He returns to his professional football birthplace for Sunday night’s showdown — it’s always a showdown when the Giants and Eagles clash — as a budding star, merely one year after entering the Linc as a kid from Paterson, N.J., lucky to be wearing an NFL uniform.

“When I look at that game obviously, last year week three, it was obviously one of the best memories to date, and it was a great game,’’ Cruz told The Post. “I did a personal best, and to come out like that was definitely great. But it’s a new year and I just want to remain constant.’’ Read more...

Excerpt: "Maybe when they are retired, Osi Umenyiora and Eagles running back LeSean McCoy will take their show on the road. Until then, these two premier players continue to contribute to the greater good with their obvious and often entertaining dislike for each other.

The most recent salvo, coming days before Sunday night’s Giants-Eagles clash in Philadelphia, was fired by McCoy.

“Yeah this is for real, like I don’t like Osi!’’ McCoy said on ESPN’s E:60, which airs Tuesday at 7 p.m. “I don’t know how he feels, he might think it’s a game but I don’t play them type of games so every time on the field I would say stuff to him like you is a bum… you are the third best defensive lineman on the defense, which I didn’t lie. Excerpt: "Two days after a controversial call cost the Green Bay Packers a win, the NFL and the referees' union are reportedly nearing an end to a lockout that put replacement officials on the field since the start of the season.According to several reports, the NFL and the union are close to a new deal that would allow the league's regular officials to return to work, possibly as early as this weekend." NFL: Giants - Eagles matchup

http://www.northjersey.com/sports/171287841_NFL__Giants-Eagles_matchup.html

Excerpt: "At Lincoln Financial Field

Sunday, 8:20 p.m.

TV: Ch. 4; Radio: WFAN-AM 660

Early line: Eagles by 2

The Giants find themselves tied with the Eagles (and the Cowboys) atop the NFC East standings and will bring with them plenty of momentum following their resounding triumph in Carolina. This game marked the coming-out party for Paterson (http://www.northjersey.com/paterson) native Victor Cruz last season in a Week 3 victory, but the Eagles – and then-backup QB Vince Young – returned the favor and nearly derailed Big Blue’s playoff push with an upset in Week 11.

Giants LB Michael Boley: The veteran is healed from the hamstring injury that kept him out of action for much of training camp and all of the preseason. He’s making up for lost time in the middle of the Big Blue defense, especially in pass coverage with a career-high three interceptions – one in each game. His versatility will be counted on against the Eagles, who possess one of the most diverse offenses with QB Mike Vick and RB LeSean McCoy leading the way." Read more...

Gosselin: It's a shame the Cowboys never made a commitment to Martellus Bennett

Excerpt: "Rick Gosselin, sports columnist for The Dallas Morning News and SportsDayDFW.com and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame selection committee, answered your questions about the Cowboys, Rangers, Mavericks and Stars in a live chat Monday. Some excerpts:

What explains Martellus Bennett's emergence in NY? A lucky couple of catches or do you think the coaching staff up there has gotten him to focus?

Gosselin: The Giants made a commitment to Bennett, something the Cowboys never did. The Giants also are a team that wants to run the ball and Bennett has few peers as a blocker at the tight end position. New York was the right fit, the right situation for Bennett. Shame on the Cowboys for never tapping into the talent Bennett now has on display in New York." Read more...

Giants' Eli Manning, Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz assess Philadelphia Eagles' matchuo

http://www.giants101.com/2012/09/26/new-york-giants-eli-manning-victor-cruz-hakeem-nicks-assess-the-philadelphia-eagles-matchup/

Excerpt: "With Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers (http://www.giants101.com/tag/carolina-panthers/) in the rearview and Michael Vick (http://www.giants101.com/tag/michael-vick/), LeSean McCoy and Jeremy Maclin (http://www.giants101.com/tag/jeremy-maclin/) of the Philadelphia Eagles on deck, we're turning the page around here…moving on from last week's feel-good victory and looking at what should be a tough game on the road for the Giants.
Despite how bad Philly looked last week getting spanked by the Arizona Cardinals (http://www.giants101.com/tag/arizona-cardinals/), they always show up to play Big Blue so hopefully the Giants don't get caught in a trap. Tomorrow morning we'll have our Insider post with the guys from Eagles101.com giving us a scouting report, but for now let's hear what the Giants players themselves have to say about the Eagles.
First up: Eli Manning (http://www.giants101.com/tag/eli-manning/), who sees a defense that tries to do the same old thing but in a new way." Read more...

Ahmad Bradshaw will start for Giants and more from afternoon tea with Tom Coughlin

http://www.giants101.com/2012/09/26/ahmad-bradshaw-will-start-for-new-york-giants-more-from-an-afternoon-tea-with-tom-coughlin/

Excerpt: "Now on a two-game win streak and with normal schedule again, New York (http://www.giants101.com/tag/new-york/)Giants head coach Tom Coughlin (http://www.giants101.com/tag/tom-coughlin/) took the podium on Wednesday in a better mood than he has in recent weeks. However, focus immediately turned to injuries -as it always does- which we all know by now, is one of his least favorite subjects. But we digress… TC offered both some good news and bad news as it relates to the walking wounded."

The pre-practice injury report included the following players: Hakeem Nicks (foot), Adewale Ojomo (hamstring), Keith Rivers (hamstring), Antrel Rolle (http://www.giants101.com/tag/antrel-rolle/)(knee), Ahmad Bradshaw (http://www.giants101.com/tag/ahmad-bradshaw/) (Neck), Michael Coe (hamstring), David Diehl (knee), Domenik Hixon (concussion), Jayron Hosley (hamstring) and Corey Webster (hand).
Despite what the pre-practice injury report lists, Coughlin says Rolle, Coe (limited), Webster, Ojomo, Bradshaw and Hixon will practice. He also noted that Diehl will do minor work on the side, while

Hosley and Rivers will sit out. Nicks will practice, on schedule, Thursday.

"[Rolle] will do everything he can. It's difficult to control him," Coughlin said with a smile." Read more...

Battered Philadelphia Eagles a perfect recipe for glowing NY Giants to fall into trap

http://www.giants101.com/2012/09/26/battered-philadelphia-eagles-a-perfect-recipe-for-glowing-new-york-giants-to-fall-into-trap/

Excerpt: "The image we have of the New York (http://www.giants101.com/tag/new-york/) Giants morale is something like Ramses Barden (http://www.giants101.com/tag/ramses-barden/) on the sideline last week after his huge breakthrough game helped Big Blue absolutely dismantle Cam Newton (http://www.giants101.com/tag/cam-newton/) and the Carolina Panthers (http://www.giants101.com/tag/carolina-panthers/): ear-to-ear smile, teeth shining. The Philadelphia Eagles (http://www.giants101.com/tag/philadelphia-eagles/), ehhhhh not so much.Michael Vick (http://www.giants101.com/tag/michael-vick/) & Co. got dismantled last week by the Arizona Cardinals (http://www.giants101.com/tag/arizona-cardinals/), and come limping home to Philly for the big division matchup.

We watched the Eagles-Cardinals game (thanks FOX) and have two lasting images: Mike Vick lying on his back in pain and 'Zona defenders streaking down the field with the ball in their hands with blocking caravans. Vick was sacked five times and hit an astonishing thirteen times. The Eagles were down 24-0 at the half and didn't show much fight in the second half." Read more...

Giants' WSednesday injury report

http://www.bigblueview.com/2012/9/26/3414688/giants-wednesday-injury-report-ahmad-bradshaw-jayron-hosley-hakeem-nicks

Excerpt: "Jayron Hosley (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/154922/jayron-hosley), the rookie cornerback who has started the past two games, was probably the only surprise among players who did not practice today for the New York Giants (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/new-york-giants). Head coach Tom Coughlin said Hosley's hamstring injury means there is a "good chance" Prince Amukamara (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/130895/prince-amukamara) will start Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/philadelphia-eagles)." Giants-Eagles: Philadelphia scouting report

http://www.bigblueview.com/2012/9/26/3410582/giants-eagles-philadelphia-scouting-report-michael-vick/in/3169859

Excerpt: "The Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants face off for the first time this year on Sunday Night Football with both teams entering the game at 2-1. The narrative is well known around these parts, the Eagles as of recently have dominated the New York Giants winning 7 of their last 8 matchups. While the Giants have infinitely more Super Bowl championships than the Eagles have (or as an Eagles fan might say "a few more lucky wins"). Regardless of the outcomes, the games have recently been exciting and close. I'd expect much of the same this week. Let's take a look at how the Eagles have been playing this year from a statistical perspective. Later in the week I'll unveil my "Beyond the Box Score" for the Eagles after I finish watching all three of their first games." Read more...

Giants prepare for Eagles knowing every game is important

Excerpt: "Eagles quarterback Michael Vick (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/1188/michael-vick) is entering his third season as the starter for the team, and the Giants have grown accustomed to what damage he can do on the field. Last year Vick dealt with injuries, but defensive end Justin Tuck (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/2260/justin-tuck) still views Vick as a dangerous quarterback to not take for granted.

"I saw some plays in [the Arizona Cardinals (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/arizona-cardinals)] game where [Vick] still looked the same and he got out of the pocket and started running," said Tuck. "I think he's had some injuries on the O-Line and he's getting some clean shots at him and obviously that's going to take a toll on any player, not only him. I think he's still one of the most dangerous people on the football field." Read more...

Eli Manning, NY Giants clearly cream of NFC East crop

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000066161/article/eli-manning-new-york-giants-clearly-cream-of-nfc-east-crop

Excerpt: "According to preseason conventional wisdom, the NFC East was going to be the best and most competitive division in the NFL in 2012. Through three weeks, three teams are in a logjam at the top at 2-1, and the 1-2 Washington Redskins (http://www.nfl.com/teams/washingtonredskins/profile?team=WAS) are a play or two away from having the same record. To the naked eye, it would seem like the division is living up to the hype.

Get real.

If you watch the games and take an educated look into the crystal ball, it is very easy to see what is happening in the NFC East.

The New York Giants (http://www.nfl.com/teams/newyorkgiants/profile?team=NYG) are winning the division, and will be its only representative in the playoffs. This isn't an overreaction or hyperbole. Actually, it's exactly what I predicted in the preseason (http://www.nfl.com/kickoff/story/0ap1000000055270/article/2012-nfl-predictions-super-bowl-xlvii-winner-mvp-more). I'm now more convinced than ever that I was right.
We haven't even reached October, and I'm already channeling my inner Dennis Green and crowning the Giants (http://www.nfl.com/teams/newyorkgiants/profile?team=NYG)." Read more...
