Here is an idea that could help get our Pass rush going if it doesn't start to get on track soon.

This is probably a touchy subject

Move Kiwi back to DE opposite to JPP. Bring Osi in on pass rush duties or for relief if either of them gets tired. Tuck Move him inside on pass rush duties and also use him to spell one of the DE's.

Lets face it JPP is our best DE he stays. Kiwi is good against the rush and can get after the qb. Tuck is better suited vs run and has enough beef to play inside where he could be a better pass rusher and to me that is where he was most effective (remember SB 08 SB ask Pats fans)

Also we have better LB depth now and we could actually do this with moving Kiwi. This is not to say Kiwi isnt doing a good job as a LB.

Rivers, Boley and BlackBurn at LB and Williams can come in on to replace Blackburn on passing situations.

Just a wild idea.

Im sorry maybe Im misreading but if you move Kiwi and Osi to D end, where do you put JPP??

Tuck should stay at LDE (he's too skilled and fast to be a DT), but I would be OK platooning Kiwi back to the DEs for depth and maybe to be Tuck's understudy in place of Tolly. Also not a bad long-term move as we lose Osi next year and could use the depth of 3 starting-quality DEs we've been used to. Also because we seem to be getting some momentum at the LB position with Herzlich, Williams, et al we can afford to deplete Kiwi from the LB corps, and with teams going 3 wide a high percentage of the time we'll be seeing extra safeties on the field in place of linebackers anyway.

However Kiwi has been switched many times and wants to stay at LB.

I mentioned move Kiwi to opposite of JPP and bring Osi in relief and odd passing situations when either JPP and Kiwi get tired.

They move these guys around all the time anyways...

Bottom line is we need someone else to help JPP out their.

Doesn't that make Justin Tuck a 3rd down DT? Even if you aren't thrilled with his play lately, that does not seem like a good use for him. He's better than that!

A lot of what you are saying is already happening. Osi is playing in relief for JPP/Tuck. We have a NASCAR package where Kiwi is DE and Tuck is DT.

They are moved all over the field to create different mismatches. There is no set alignment.

Kiwi rushing as a LB is fine with me. Kiwi has improved at LB so much it is ******ed. And his pass rush / run stuffing is very effective still. He is 1 of the most undervalued Giants IMO.

I'm looking for Ojomo to fill that role if we can get him healthy

I'm still dying to see him in some action.

The other idea I had against power running teams was, once Canty gets back, line up 4 DT's. Kuhn-Joseph-Canty-Austin. The inverse of the Nascar package, designed as an all-out run defense (as opposed to all-out pass defense like Nascar is). In certain situations you could also line up JPP on the strong side. It would have 2 linebackers: Rivers and Boley, and the standard secondary (or a third safety if only 4 are on the line). It would reduce the snap count for Tuck and Osi, and allow them to better rush the passer when that is called for.

I don't see a benefit in making those changes. Tuck, JPP and Osi are rotating now to stay fresh, and to have the best players on the field for a given cituation. We do the same thing with the DTs. Kiwi drops down to DT with Tuck in the nascar package. Kiwi at OLB is almost like stacking 2 DEs. He is a strong run stopping OLB. Don't forget we have a talented young DE in Ojomo coming back soon as well. Tuck and Kiwi are great athletes which allows them to move in to DT situationally. We are developing young talent at DT and Canty

Lost 1/2 of my post sorry. As I was saying, Canty will hopefully be back in a few weeks. I think continuity and consistancy will make the D get better over all. I trust the coaches to understand the talent they have, and how best to use that talent.

Sounds like a good idea to me...my only concern would be that we don't really have anyone who can play SAM backer so it keeps us from doing that. If we were going to do that we should have gotten a replacement backer for Kiwi (LIKE IS SAID THIS SUMMER) so we could move him back to DE and move Tuck somewhere else.

I just want to note that JPP has become such a beast against the run game... thats huge!

I dont think theres anything wrong with the line up... maybe getting Canty back will help them all out due to his size. I think you have to give the other teams credit for blocking well and the replacement refs for not calling holding. Also the back end with the young DB's giving a little too much space allowing oppossing QB's to get the ball out fast.

Tuck doesnt get as many sacks as he used to in general... Osi usually racks up his sack numbers by having games where he gets two or three in one game a couple of games a year. And JPP is just getting a lot of attention but they have done well so far, not great! but well enough... I think with the offense getting into rythym and scoring early, it will create more passing situations for the opposing team, and these guys will start teeing off and you'll see their sack numbers right about where they should at the end of the season.
