I wish we could have him for week 6. It's clear to me now that Canty brings something to our D-line that boosts those around him.

And to think I thought he was overpaid...

He is definitely missed, not just his ability but it also helps to have more linemen in the rotation to keep everyone fresh. With him and Rocky out, it is putting a lot more pressure on the guys remaining.

Thats gotta be it, cause he's the only piece missing from our DL from last seaon. But according to all of the Message Board 'experts' he was overpaid and we should switch to a 3-4 defense, get cheerleaders, etc

Let's hope he's not headed to IR. It's been awfully quiet on the Canty front

I could of swore I read something a few weeks ago talking about Canty looking like he was in good shape (running or jogging)

Too bad that under PUP rules he cant be reactivated until week 7. We could REAAAAALLLY use him against SF...

Whenever he comes back, it will be extremely helpful

That's why I'm sure the D-line will turn it around once he & Rocky Bernard come back. As long as we are healthy in the 2nd half of the season, the D-line will start getting it's share of sacks & QB pressures.

To be honest I was one of the talking heads that thought Canty was overpaid, but I'm 95% sure now that his absence is definitely felt among the rest of the D line...

The silver lining is that Marvin Austin and Marcus Kuhn are getting some invaluable playing time

True. I really liked the upside of the Germanator, but I'd still like to see Canty on our line...

good point OP. Canty does a lot more than can be measured by # of sacks...he's just a beast of a man, he's like another JPP stature wise. Almost impossible to block that side of the DL when Canty lines up next to JPP

And if you do, you leave the other side incredibly thin.

Our defensive tackles sucks. They are doing absolutely nothing.

This is the closest thing I could find to news that was after Aug 27th.
Hopefully him being anxious is a good sign..............

That and he looks pretty happy (even though vid has nothing to do with his
injury situation) for a guy that would not be playing soon.

Chirs Canty on 10/3/12 : "We got two more games to wait, and I can't wait to get back out there"

that came right from his mouth, so lets hope it for real and he is ready in 2 weeks! That would be huge.

oh by the way the interview with Chirs Canty is here: http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=8458634

Since training camp I have been asking @ Canty updates. Still worried @ all the silence on his progress. He said before he was placed on PUP list that he felt better than playoffs or superbowl. If he felt better why was he placed on PUP? I knew he was underated he has been lights out for past 2-seasons and made D-front better because Olines had to pay special attention to him and he would beat man on man. He is a big loss. Like Joseph and Kuhn gives u effort but not in Cantys league. Austin is a bust!!!!! What @ Tracy and Ojomo? How come these guys are not getting any reps?

Sometimes you don't know what you have until it's gone, and that is certainly the case with Canty. The play of the entire line has gone down without him. It will be a huge boost when he returns.

I have been saying it in every thread this comes up, i hope this info is wrong, but there are growing rumors that Canty actually had microfracture surgery. If that is true his return would be very doubtfull and if he did return he would not be his old self for some time.

He has dodged answering the question about exactly what type of knee surgery he had, that is a bad indicator to me.

Excerpt: "Up this week for the Giants is a rematch of the NFC Championship Game, a contest with the San Francisco 49ers that promises to be a tough, physical game.

It's the kind of game for which defensive tackle Chris Canty longs to be on the field.

"To have the opportunity to go into that type of environment and compete on that stage against that level of competition, I mean any competitor worth his salt wants the opportunity to do that," he said. "Thatís kind of a bummer that this one is not a week later."

Canty has been on the physically unable to perform list after undergoing offseason knee surgery. Canty said his knee feels "great," and he will "absolutely" begin practicing as soon as he is allowed to, which is after this week's game at San Francisco." Read more...

I also remember he claimed to be absolutely ready to participate in a full training camp this summer, so I'm not sure what to make of this.

If it happens to be true, what do we do to get him a roster spot? I guess we try to move Kuhn to the practice squad.

BlueSanta

Even if he comes back, which I still have my doubts about, he will need time to readjust to the game and get his football legs. I would not expect much right away.

Captain Chaos

Canty will need a couple weeks to snap back in; but he's a veteran and he will adjust quickly. He will he a huge boost to this team's Defensive Moral when he returns!
