In yet another instance of violence directed at a fan going to an NFL game, a man was seriously wounded when he was stabbed near Candlestick Park today as he was heading in to watch the 49ers play the Giants.

San Francisco Police Sgt. Michael Andraychak told the Associated Press that two men have been arrested in the stabbing of the 27-year-old fan. Police say the victim and the attackers were all 49ers fans.

According to police, the victim was one of six fans heading into the stadium who were approached by the two suspects. An argument broke out and one of the suspects pulled a knife and stabbed the victim in the torso. The victim is expected to survive.

Violence in and around NFL stadiums has been a serious problem, and one that neither the NFL nor the municipalities where stadiums are located have been able to get a handle on. Ugly incidents like this happen too often.

Sad but there are lots of incidents there. Some had said in past that there a lot of gang related activity in that area and they some times bring there differences into Candelstick

20, 25 years ago, this was never a problem in SF. Now, it is awful.

It really is a very unpleasant place to go watch a game.

Hope he is ok. WTF is wrong with people.

Law enforcement and politicians need to stop worrying about trite and minor stuff like weed and speeding tickets, and go after the real atrocious stuff like pedophiles, gangs, murders, and rapes. The billions we waste on the drug war is ridiculous.

As I have previously stated, San Francisco 49ER fans are the lowest there is.

Um sorry but the gang thing is a problem across the nation not just California. I live in San Diego where we have the 4th lowest crime rate and the 8th largest population. Contrary to your belief, the entire California is not full of losers and gang bangers.

Its sad when people have to worry about shootings and the like in places like schools, movie theaters and now sports arenas/stadiums.

This kind of violence has always been present in sports and not just in San Francisco. Last year in an Applebees during the Saints/49ers playoff game a Saints fan shot and killed two 49ers fans. And last week a Jags fan stabbed a Bears fan in a bar prior to the game.

I was at the game and most fans were very friendly. Of course , like any other fan base , it takes a few morons to rewen it for everybody else.
