Excerpt: "New York Giants (http://www.nfl.com/teams/newyorkgiants/profile?team=NYG) offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride (http://www.nfl.com/player/kevingilbride/2514867/profile) got the last laugh.

After San Francisco 49ers (http://www.nfl.com/teams/sanfrancisco49ers/profile?team=SF) coach Jim Harbaugh (http://www.nfl.com/player/jimharbaugh/2515790/profile) released a statement last week ripping Gilbride for his comments about 49ers (http://www.nfl.com/teams/sanfrancisco49ers/profile?team=SF) defensive lineman Justin Smith (http://www.nfl.com/player/justinsmith/2504777/profile), Gilbride's offensive line absolutely dominated against San Francisco in a 26-3 victory (http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2012101409/2012/REG6/giants@49ers).

Gilbride admitted (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/giants/ahmad-runs-niners-article-1.1183552) he was "shocked" by the response from Harbaugh."I have great respect for their front, and I have unbelievable respect for the guy (Smith), tremendous," Gilbride told the New York Daily News on Sunday. "But it (defensive holding) is something he does. He reaches out and grabs people. ..."I thought it was just in a litany of compliments. ... all of a sudden, (Harbaugh) turned it into a negative thing. ... It was great. All of a sudden, now everybody in the country saw it. It worked well." Read more...

agreed

Harbaugh is a great coach and a great football guy ...but a horrible professional

his emotions are constantly on his sleeve and he often comes off like a child who had his toy taken from him

I don't get it...these comments had ZERO effect on the outcome of the game. What was KG's plan, to get the refs to pay more attention to J. Smith? How many penalties did he have called against him? I didn't notice any. This is a nonsense article (I know you just post em RF).

I don't know how much of a bearing KG's comments had on the game but Smith was still holding and getting away with it. They even showed a reply of him doing it on the Giants first drive LOL

The NFL seems to have decided to not call holding on the line. It didn't start with the 49ers game.

Not sure if KG's comments were designed to get the refs to take a look during the game. They probably were. But either way, Harbaugh's comments were definitely designed to compel the refs not to overreact.
It was actually a pretty smart comeback by Harbaugh. At least they didn't call him for holding during the game, and he DID hold. How about the shot of him grabbing 2 O lineman and keeping one from his assigned block.
Ultimately its minutia, and probably had no effect on the game, but it is interesting.

imo, i thought that JH was worried his team wouldnt be fired up or able to match up with us. no one knows the 49ers like JH does, and he also knows about who we are and what we're about.
KG basically complimented SF and J.Smith, yet JH focused on an insignificant, when read in context, statement that actually still even compliments J.Smith...JH's little press release came off as if KG disrespected JH's mom or something, like it was way oerboard. and a guy like JH is calculated, i think his press release was intended to get J.Smith and the D fired up, bc SF's DL hasn't been getting it done...jmo tho

Speaking of "overreactions".
All you folks over Harbaugh's reaction comes to mind. Just working the refs ahead of time. Can't understand why this is a big deal here.

How could they not be fired up?
National TV.
A chance to beat the reigning SB Champion.
Revenge for getting beat by the Gmen at home in last years Championship game.

Does a pro need more incentive than that?

As far as locker room poster board material is concerned, this is as tame as it gets. A mountain out of a mole hill.
