"In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the NFL and the NFL Players Association have teamed up to pledge $1 million to the American Red Cross for relief and recover efforts in the Northeast.

The superstorm affected millions of people and caused billions of dollars in damages.

All broadcasts of NFL games this week, starting with Thursday Night Football, will include pre-game and in-game messages pointing fans to the American Red Cross website (redcross.org) and text-to-give line (text REDCROSS to 90999 to give a $10 donation).

At each game, including Giants-Steelers Sunday at MetLife Stadium, a special announcement will recognize those affected by the storm, and a salute will be given to first responders and others assisting relief efforts.“We are pleased that NFL owners and players have joined together once again to support communities and families impacted by Hurricane Sandy,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith said in a joint statement. “This contribution on behalf of all 32 clubs and players throughout the league will help the American Red Cross assist people in need in the affected areas. We salute the dedication of those who have been working so hard on the rescue, relief and recovery effort.”
