Adam Schefter just tweeted that the Giants activated TE Travis Beckum from the PUP list, and cut OL Mitch Petrus to make room for him.

Not at all surprised with Pacsoe being banged up.

I wonder if Petrus gets picked up. If not, do we put him on the PS?

He's not PS eligible. Doubt he gets picked up his regression has been shocking.

Yea, I was thinking we would sign Petrus to the PS.

Hopefully he performs well. He made some big plays late last year. My only concern right now is that we only have 8 active O-Lineman. But that should at least get us through a game without a huge problem. But if someone gets hurt it would probably require a transaction.

No PS eligibility if has played 9 regular season games or been on an active roster for over a year. I don't think he qualifies.

Helps that Diehl and Booth can play multiple positions.

I'm not doubting the coaches, but I don't understand them. Beckum isn't a TE. . .let's be real here.

I guess the feel they can always activate Petrus if and when they need him. I hope Belicheck doesn't need a Guard.

Mildly surprising, but the decision makes sense. Especially since Beckum's fellow draftmates (Barden, Beatty, Brown) finally started to show a lot of progress this season. It probably confirmed the coaches' decision to stay the course and remain patient with him.

I'm a little surprised because I've not seen anything from Beckum, but Petrus' time was borrowed after being released earlier.

That and he was starting to make some plays at the end of last season. Hopefully he can help the Giants in the Green Zone.

Not sure I get this move. OK Petrus is expendable, I get that. But Beckum wasn't anything special before his bad injury, what makes coaches think he is going to contribute anything significant now?

question on the year. the guy is worthless

Agreed. He was flashing just a bit towards the end. And I know it was only ONE PLAY, but that long score he had against GB was impressive. The outside chance that he can provide that element with any consistency far outweighs what Petrus could ever provide us.

He's DJ Ware 2.0.

Now we have Hill's return coming up following the Steelers' game. I am pretty sure they want him on the 53 man roster so who's next; Tryon?

yeah eventually we will have to do something more than a Petrus cut, but so many things can happen in a week ... any marginal player should have a big fire lit under them

Petrus was no star, but at least he was in game-shape. It will take Beckum some time before he's really contributing. So to me, Petrus' release means Beckum is here to stay.

When Hill comes back, I think Sash may be let go. Not sure if he's PS-eligible (or will clear waivers), but Brown's proving to be a player and we may not need another safety. Beckum's a decent ST guy.

I don't know how to feel about this can Beckum help hell yes in the passing game but Like someone else said what if one of linemen get hurt who else do we have besides Brewer. I hope it doesn't come to that but we will see how this works out.

Well to be fair that it is in his first year in this system while Beckum has been here and knows the system very well he could turn out to be rather useful

This was a dumb move..........I would have cut Tryon or any number of marginal players before giving up any beef

thought this guy had potential with the few fill-in appearances he made last year. Sounds like he regressed big time.

TC likes his game breaking ability at TE. Wow! I liked Petrus versus the run but he just didn't have the agility to pass block.

I used to think Barden was a bust, but he really progressed late last year.

As for Petrus, I'm disappointed to see him go, but I'm sure the coaches know what they're doing.

Pretty sure this was discussed about a month ago in a thread and a couple of posters guessed correctley as to who would be cut to make room.
Was generally excited to see Adrian Robinson in game action...wonder what this does to his progression.
Anyone know Beckum's contract status?

That beef you speak of is marginal at best. This had to be expecting considering Petrus was cut earlier in the season and no one picked him up. He should be there if the Giants need to sign him again.

Why then were we averaging 6 yds a carry two years ago the last time he (Petrus) was a starter???????????

Too bad. I rooted for Petrus. Oh well. Now I root hard for Will Hill. Beckum's just taking up space.
Last year it was obvious they wanted to keep Beckum whether he produced a damn thing or not. Its like Gilbride has invested so much time in him that they're unwilling to cast him off. His only positives are as a receiver. Flat out sux as a blocker. Maybe Gilbride still dreams about the H-back plays.
And lastly, I'd much rather see Sash on specials than Beckum.

As fragile as Beckum seems to be, he might trip on the sideline chalk and be out the rest of the year.
