***Official Game Day Thread - Steelers @ Giants***

Once again, game day is here. We are at the midway point of the season. We are sitting atop the NFC East with a 7 - 2 record. We are 2 - 2 within the Division where every other perennial rival has a losing record, each having won only 3 games.

We have played through what seemed like devastating injuries only to be rescued game after game by the "next man up." We still have players out injured but the list is shorter than it has been.

No games on our schedule are gimme games and today's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers is certainly going to be tough sledding. This team has a tradition as storied as the New York Football Giants. The Mara and Rooney families are literally linked by marriage and by NFL history.

Will we continue to create turnovers and lead the NFL with a +13 differential. Can we stop the Steelers' running game? Can our OLine get push against the Steelers' defensive line? Will Ahmad Bradshaw prove his detractors wrong or will Andre Brown get significant playing time?

And then there is the intangible: Playing in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. So many in the tri-state have suffered unspeakable losses. From The Battery, to Staten Island, to Breezy Point, to The Rockaways, to Long Island and Connecticut. Perhaps nowhere has the devastation been more acute that the New Jersey Shore, Hoboken, Little Ferry, and Moonachie.

There are valid arguments as to whether this game should even be played. The NFL huddled with Governor Christie to make sure no resources required for the recovery/restoration effort would be compromised. The Governor assured Roger Goodell that no resources needed for the recovery effort would be drained by playing the game and went further to suggest it may well be a good thing in terms of giving very weary people something else to focus on for just a few hours.

So the New York Football Giants take the field representing the battered Metropolitan area. As recently as yesterday, it was reported that 90% of the players were still without power. They are not playing because they don't care or aren't personally affected.

They are playing despite all of that in the hopes that, for 4 hours, their neighbors, friends, fans, and those they will never know, can find some happiness in a football game being played FOR THEM.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those whose lives have been altered forever.
