If we can unite around one common, stupid, pointless tradition, it just might help.

I think Diehl takes offense to those who think King Dunlap is worse than him. Diehl has actively been trying to prove otherwise each game.

It's a tossup between Dunlap and Diehl but really, I think that says it all right there. The only thing is, the Eagles are starting Dunlap because they HAVE TO.......we are starting Diehl for no reason other than seniority. We have a perfectly capable replacement, who did a MUCH better job while Diehl was out, named Sean Locklear sitting on the bench watching Diehl get abused play after play. The offense really hit its stride with Locklear protecting Eli's throwing side......ever since Diehl has re-entered the starting lineup the offense has been a complete catastrophe.

If Coughlin has any damn sense at all, he conditions Locklear during the entire Bye week to take over as the PERMANENT starting right tackle for the rest of the season.

Then, during the offseason, we cut Diehl and either bring in a high priced, experienced vet RT or just keep Locklear if he does a solid enough job. But we can't draft a replacement. This team is built to win now. We can bring along a rookie RT.....we just don't have the time for that. Eli isn't mobile enough.....e need a solid RT about as bad as anyone in the NFL because our offense clearly falls apart without solid protection.

Yes, he looks really bad out there, but he is only one player. Even if they did sit him, the offense has been struggling for some time now. Nicks and Cruz are not having another seaon like they did last year and they don't have a legitimate #3 WR threat like they did last year. The running game is up and down. I actually don't think the defense as horrible as the score indicated yesterday, but for most of the season they have not been good. I seriously doubt Diehl will lose his starting job, but even if he did I don't see them playing all that much better.

Harooni
11-12-2012, 09:20 AM
DD is one guy and he is a great guard asked to play Tackle.

good thread, defense has flaws but has won us games by turnovers and stops , and like all defenses gets tired quickly when an offense goes 3 and out repeatedly.

Eli is one player. but a big cog in the system, if he is having a hard time the offense seems to sputter, our running game isnt the same without BJ pounding the rock in there to wear down the D and bring a safety in the box to help out.

the main thing is offense right now. and that is red zone problems and turnovers. stop throwing picks stop fumbling and stop the bs shotgun draw on third and longs.

I keep asking this question but it's worth asking again............WHY WHY WHY did they waive Mitch Petrus....who was doing a great job whenever he was in the game, in order to activate Travis Beckum who is ANYTHING but a priority with Martellus Bennett playing good dependable football?
Diehl was done 2 years ago.....why is Coughlin unable to see that?
And are we doomed for that very fact that Coughlin doesn't seem to see where the problemsare TO address them????

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending him. I'm just saying there are so many threads on him and I think people are forgetting that they where struggling before he was named started again. They where very lucky in their last two wins. Their luck has run out. That's the problem with winning ugly multiple times. One game you can get by on but keep doing it and its going to catch up. Lets also not forget that Webster might be the worst CB in the entire NFL. Rolle is way over rated and has been since he was signed. I didn't know Tuck and Osi retired. My point is they can bench him, which they won't, and they still have major issues.

in reality i think TC has gone soft.. why allow a player that hasnt practiced in about 3 weeks to start every game.. and why oh why would you change the oline that was giving you results.. david diehl is stinking it up and has no push whatsoever..

I'm sorry but as soon as Diehl came in, our Oline started to struggle. He is our weakest link on that line.

Buddy333
11-12-2012, 11:18 AM
Again, not defending him. Did you watch the Dallas game? How ineffective where they in the red zone? They needed 6 turnovers and a finger tip to win that game because the offense could not put the ball in the end zone at least one more time.

EliDaMANning
11-12-2012, 11:27 AM
It's obvious nobody is disagreeing with the fact that he is only 1 player. We all know that's a fact. He just happens to be the worst o lineman in the NFL and has been for a few years now.

You know he really hasn't played enough games to really say; but....I don't want to see enough to be sure!Actually DD has been one of the worst o-lineman for a few years ago. I've been saying this back in 09 and getting bashed for it because he's a veteran. But the bottom line is he's been stinking for a while now.

its starting to look like Bradshaw and Diehl have both hit the wall and need to sit down and TC needs to stop starting guys out of loyalty .I was told the other day that Bradshaw is much better than Andre Brown and that may have been true at one time but not any more, Bradshaw seems to no longer be the back he was even though he gives it 100% ho just doesn't have it anymore...

I understand your point Buddy, he is just 1 player. But, he is still responsible for his performance.

When coaches review a players play, they do the same thing that scouts do when examining a potential draft pick. They measure "wins and losses." For example on X play Diehl may have won his battle and on Y play he may have lost it. You add up the wins and losses to evaluate a guys performance. Oline has the easiest measurement system for evaluation since it is litteraly answered by the question did you keep your guy from making the play or disrupting it?

For offensive linemen, moreso than any other position, wins are the norm because a win is typically measured in how effectively you kept your guy off the Qb or out of his face(on passing plays.) A "bad" game for a passblocker might include 5 losses out of 35 pass plays.

However, I beg anyone to rewatch the Bengals game with this system in mind and you will see that Diehl litterally failed to block his man on more plays than he suceeded. This is absolutely unheard of for an Olineman. If a Olineman fails to block his guy on 10% of the plays and that is deemed to be a bad day, what did Diehl have who litterally failed on 50% of the plays?

Furthermore, we clearly changed our protection plan about mid way through the 1st half with regards to our backs. Typically, our backs will block the 1st guy through. However, this came to a quick end as Brown and Bradshaw were litterally helping Diehl on every single play. They were clearly told to do so. Our entire offense was altered by Diehl's horrendous performance.

anyone know the status of terrell thomas? in august, he was supposed to be back "soon". the Giants need him, or someone like him at corner, as the Prince has turned out to be a vassal at best and webster is doing his best imitation of elvis patterson.

I hate beating up on the guy because he has given us loyal and competent service for so many years and physically he showed up every game. The last few years have been difficult to watch however. I watched him very closely yesterday and he just doesn't have the goods anymore. He is probably better than our other backups (sadly) but he should not be starting IMO.

bigblue19

Am I the only one that see's that since Diehl came back the line has been TERRIBLE! He gave up 2 sacks against the Steelers and 2 yesterday. Sit him down. He's done. Put Locklear back in. And, Brown & Wilson need more carries (at least 12/each every game). I love Bradshaw's toughness, but his injuries have limited his effectiveness - he's now our 3rd down back.
