Excerpt: "Chris Snee walked out of the Giants locker room and was greeted by his sons Dylan, a third-grader, and Cooper, who goes to kindergarten, and the excitement of the boys wearing Snee’s No. 76 blue jersey no doubt eased the pain for their dad of a bad loss and a barking hip.

The boys were sitting against a wall and waiting patiently with their mom, Kate, the daughter of Tom Coughlin, for Chris to come out. The hugs and kisses have been even more special the last few days after the unimaginable horror of the massacre of 20 first-graders and six adults in Newtown, Conn., at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

“I think we all needed some good squeezes on Friday,” Kate Snee said.

The Giants locker room was somber, as you would expect after a 34-0 embarrassment to the Falcons, the second-worst loss in Coughlin’s nine seasons with the Giants and the worst shutout loss ever for a defending Super Bowl champion.

The Giants lost control of the NFC East, but if they win their last two games — next week at Baltimore and then at home against the Eagles — they will get a wild-card spot. And they can still win the division.

Coughlin and his players did not use what happened Friday in Newtown as an excuse, but they were playing with heavy and broken hearts following a tragedy about an hour from where they live.

Coughlin held a moment of silence in their team meeting Saturday night. Victor Cruz spoke to the family of Jack Pinto, a 6-year-old killed in the massacre, when told the little boy idolized him. He was moved almost beyond words when he talked about being told by the family on Saturday that they may bury Jack in his Cruz jersey." Read more...
