The only QB with a D that I could think of was Dean, and I knew it wasn't him. You were tricky with the D being the first name.

We beat the Jets @ Giant Stadium in 1984 like 20-10. What was significance of that game reguarding Giants Stadium itself?

Z

I can only think that it was the first time the Giants played at Giants Stadium and were not the home team?

Right now my brain can only remember 1 structural change and that was raising the concrete walls behind the seats

Thats it Z...........We were the home team in our ownstadium for the first time.

What year did those concrete walls go up? I know we have discussed them but I don't remember anyone ever saying what year it was. I think I know about what yearbut..........

I liked it better without those concretewalls

That was Wahoo McDaniel. And, I think he wrestled some while he was still playing football. I'll have to look it up. He was part American Indian and I think his thing in wrestling was to wear a big chiefs feathered head dress into the ring. Like I said, I'll look some stuff up and get back.

I think there are 5 who threw 7 TD's. I only knew YA, Kapp, and Luckman. I'd have to say the chances of Burke reffing the game where Kapp threw 7 has to be 1 in a million.1 in a billion?

I wonder if, once Kapp had 6, Burke's inner demon whispered for him to throw a flag against Minny every time Kapp threw after that? lol.

YA's right. I remember when YA, senior (lol),threw 7. He had many opportunities to throw for 8, but had the lead and just kept the ground game going. Remember, those were the days when the QB called all his own plays

It was against the Baltimore Colts in 69 I believe. Something else I remember reading about that game. Another person who was involved in the same Kapp 7 TD pass game also threm 7 TD passes in a game . He did not play in the game but was a part of it. Any ideas how he was involved? Z

That's tough, SEC. I can only think of Sid Luckman as another who threw 7 TD passes, so I'll go with him, although I haven't got a clue as to how he was involved in the game... honorary chain gang member? lol

That is a verytough oneZ. I remember reading the story so I refreshed my memory. Adrian Burk threw 7 TD passes in a single gamefor the Eagles in the 1950s. Good but not greatcareer with them and theColts. He was areferee in the samegame where Kapp threw 7. Amazing when you think about it

Here's one..............how did the "Jets"......... get their Name? They were originally the Titans but what inspired the "Jet" nickname?I know one story but not sure if it's true

Any ideas or stories?

Z

here's another good burke question---what did he do the week before the 7td game?

he coulda been drilling for oil, or robbing a bank... who knows?

(SEC knows, you dim wit, or he wouldn't have asked the question)

I'll guess he was driving a cab in NY City. Many Giants did that to make extra money in the early years.

LOL Actually I did'nt know too much about Adrian Burk, I just remembered there was something ironic about Kapps 7 TD game. Burk throwing 8 ints. [must be record or tied for one?]the week before and then 7 TDs passesthe next is a story you would notbelieve............thats incredible

Phil Simms was sacked 477 times in his career as a Giant...
55 times was his most in a season
and yeah technically its Carr with 76 in a season...but I was thinking Simms
I looked it up after I made my guess and was like wow did I go under lol

Got a quick question for you guys...
Who was the last Giant WR to play in the pro bowl?
I apologize if this was already asked, I was away.

Toomer

Not Amani. Someone else.

Chris Calloway?

Not Calloway. You guys were closer with Amani.

Ed McCaffrey?

Not McCaffrey. Much more recent than Ed.
I want to give the other guys a shot. He played for the Giants very recently and made some big plays.

Thinking all the way back to the beginning, the first was the Jets, who won at Oakland before winning SBIII. That was the only playoff game that year... top teams from East and West.

The next year the Chiefs won at the Jets and at Oakland before winning SBIV. Only 2 away games there.

They're the only ones I could think of before the addition of the Wild Card, and the need forateam to win 3 away games before the SB.. Since then, I think Jints10 got the only 2 to do that... Giants and Steelers

Cowboys - not sure who first QB was, Staubach and Aikman.
On a side note - there were many many a sunday when I really thought about shooting cunningham in the knee. Him and HIM alone is the reason I hate the eagles with such passion.
editing for another possibility - The Raiders - but all I remember is Jim Plunkett, I want to say Kenny Stabler but I think he was with green Bay.

Kinda ironic... Dobler was considered the dirtiest player of his time. He never missed an opportunity for a cheap crack-back block and was, assuredly, responsible for some of those vets having bad knees.

But, he's right, and it is a long standing problem that should have been resolved years ago. The new millionaires should surely have to fork over a percentage for this purpose. The league can surely afford their part, too, from all the zillions they're getting for broadcast rights and royalties. The vets sure do deserve it more than people like agents. Anyway, with a proper sytem in place a man gives some of his pay back to take care of the vets now, and then the system works in his favor when he is in his retirement years. Why is it so hard for them to get this done?

Brees' attitude isn't new... It goes all the way back to the 70's when the vets started to scream for help, and the players then had the same attitude... why should we pay.

Now those same 70's and 80's guys are calling for help.

The existing players ought to go visit some of these old vets who are getting by on crutches. Then, maybe, they'll realize that time marches on, but the paychecks do not.

Thankfully, back in the day, you had a few owners, like Well and Rooney, who helped pay for the Vet's medical needs.

Take 5% of their pay and defer it to IRA's, or whatever, for their own futures, and another 5% to pay for some deserved vets needs.

Really, are you going to miss 10% of 5 Million?

In '82 he developed a back problem which became chronic and curtailed his playing time and effectiveness for the rest of his career.
