Harry started from '76 - '88. 13 seasons

Starting LB's every year with Harry

'76, '77, '78 - Van Pelt and Kelley

'79... went to the 3-4. Starters with Harry were Van Pelt, Kelley, Dan Lloyd

'80 - Van Pelt, Skorupan, and Marion.

'81, '82, '83 - Van Pelt, Kelley, and Taylor

'84, '85- Hunt, Reasons and Taylor

'86 - Banks, Reasons, and Taylor

'87, '88 - Banks, Pepper, and Taylor

Not a bad crew of LB's in any of those years. God, we were spoiled then.

Question... Harry started at MLB in his rookie year, '76. Who was the MLB in '75 that lost his job to Harry?

unless my memory banks are malfunctioning due to that 30 oz t-bone i just munched,i recall skorupan was pretty bad,but joe mclaughclin was absolutely horrible.was joe harry's back-up?(i remember he was the first player i made up a nasty nickname for.watching him get to the point of attack about 1 and 1/4 steps late,i started to call him"cement shoes joe"-causing my dad to spew his gin and tonic across the living room....ahh,the memories..)

lol... good story, rbc

yeah, Skorupan wasn't great... surely the lowest ranked of any others. But, Frank Marion was decent

This list just goes to show you how our defensive focus has shifted over the years from making LB a draft priority to DL the draft priority. I would have no problem with us going back to a 3-4 once the personnel is up to the task. Truth is, if we trade Osi like a lot of articles suggest, and drafted towards a 3-4 slant we could probably pull it off this year. Sintim, a McClain, even Goff and Boley seem better suited for that style. Tuck, Cofield, Kiwi. It would mean getting rid of a few D linemen not suited for nose tackle, but it would be a more attacking style out of the LBs. That is something we are sorely missing.

Anything would be better than last year's D. With the Giant tradition established, last year was rough to watch.

Yeah, anything would be better. It was very difficult to watch, especially since there seemed to be little effort and pride.

I'd like to see a 3-4, too. But, we surely would need 4-5 very good LB's. I'm not sure what we have in Sintim and Boley. Goff might do well... still not enough experience to go on, even with him. I'm still praying that our #1 is a LB this draft... someone tohelp bring back the pride. If we go 3-4 we'll need 2 LB's, like Carson and Reasons, who can stuff the run. I expect Sintim would be that blitzing LB to put the pressure on, ala LT. Now, who is going to be the LB who, like Banks, can keep his feet and string out any wide run?

Mike Livingston?

I remember a question I asked with during the 74 season what team did Brian Kelly have his only interception, and who was the QB. The Chiefs and Len Dawson was the answer.

Was Len Dawson hurt so he could not start the game? He did finish it i think, I know he was getting at the end of his career in 74.

In 1974 who was the 3rd leading rusher on the Giants?

Ron Johnson?

Z

correct. your good

Total guess....I know Dawkins and Kotar were coming into there own

Z

It was a good guess. Dawkins led the team in rushing and receiving in 74. Do you know the 2 teams the Giants beat that season?

We beat Dallas and we beat KC @ Arrowhead Stadium....first time we ever played there. I saw the question to late but that was the game Brian Kelly had an int. against Lenny Dawson. Actually , Dawson did not even start that game for KC...any idea who did?

To the best of mymemory , Dawson was getting up there in years and Livingston was the QB of the future. When KC got down 14 points or so to us Coach Stram put Dawson in who played very well

Thats it fellas. Known as the "Lowmans Trophy" or "Mr. Irrelevant". Last man picked in the NFL draft. They use to have some kind of award ceremony.....tongue in cheek kinda thing but the player was invited and all.

Who was the last Giant to win it. He was a very good player actually?

Correct. Roosevelt Brown, taken in the 27th round, 321 overall, Hall Of Famer.

I have no complaints either, NY. I used to watch as much college ball as possible and knew the players. Not anymore. So, I've got to put my faith in the FO. I was disappointed we didn't get the LB that we need... but, I'm hopingthey have a plan. I haven't got a clue on the Nebraska ILB.

We'll need Boley and Sintim to be very good, and we still need that 3rd starter. Until the blanks are filled in, or we make a trade, everyone's going to speculate Kiwi, Pierre=Paull, etc. as a conversion to LB. Perhaps Kiwi can do it, but I wasn't impressed with his LB work before... I don't think he was comfortable there and didn't have the instincts for the position.

I am the same way.

Have not seen much of college football like I used too. I read these threads off all these players and I am like who are they? lol

But as you say I have faith in the Giants front office. I think last season is in all their heads and they want to do whatever they can to put a winner on the field.

Rocky Thompson! Some of my earliest memories were watching him at Yankee and hearing all the fans in the bleachers boo him!

Othe RB Bust's from Big 10. NYG - Wheatley

KJ Carter - PSU and Anthony Thompson - Indiana, both Heisman candidates I believe.

Rocky Thompson was an all time bust

We were talking about Tyrone Wheatley in another thread.

I do not think he is considered a bust. Don't get me wrong he was unproductive for us the few years he was with the Giants. But when he went to Oakland he had a good season or two. My opinion of course.

there is a veteran player in rookie camp with the Giants who is the son of a former Giant.... who is this father and son duo? Z no one?

Haven't read or heard about this, YA... so, I tried looking it up. There names that were the same as past Giants but none was identified as a son of a Gman.* I'll have to guess Ryan Neill, Rutgers, *as the notes did say he's been in the NFL for 4 seasons (Rams).* Is he son of Bill Neill?

Didn't John Washington play NT one season?

yup yr right Zim..... yeah he is a vet.....the Giants brought him into rookie camp to have a lookbil neill, another darn good player for us whose career was cut short by injury.however,if he hadn't gotten hurt, the team probably never would have given jim burt a shot.

Both Neill and Burt were excellent... they made good, fast penetration and always kept their feet and generally took on two blockers... plugged the middle... we were fprtunate to have them.

Who, besides Neill and Burt,*also played NT in the days of our 3-4?

didnt Mendenhall line up at Nose when we first made the switch in the late 70s? how about Jerome Sally......maybe McGriff

Correct on all three, YA.* Two more, and I'm surprised you missed one of them.

Yes, John washington was one. We still had 2 more because I forgot the starter in the '93 season.

Tabor played some NT, but wasn't designated as the starter.

The 3-4 starts in '79 with Perkins, and ends in '93

First, Mendenhall: then McGriff; then Neill; then Salley; then Burt; then ??? for 2 years (#74); then John Washington; then #74, again, for a year; then # 71 for the final year, '93.

Who are the 2 missing NT starters? No. 74 for 3 seasons, and No. 71 for 1 season?

We played 3-4

Did you see the post from the previous page I think?

I posted Erik Howard as one of the NT for the Giants.

In 93 #71 is Stacey Dillard.

What ever happened to him?

He played admirably for us

He was a high draft by the Giants but never played a down in the regular season for us
