who do you guys consider the best DB in giants history??? in Giants history? Em Tunnell best Ive seen play.......D. Lynch, Mark Haynes, Jason Sehorn, Phillippe Sparks, or Mark Collins you pick

agree 100%

I jumped right on jmike's 'Mark Collins' suggestion without thinking about others.

I'd have to agree with YA on Emlin as No. 1. Then I'm gonna go Collins, Haynes, Lynch, Sehorn and Spearks

in the Giants first home game vs. the Cowboys at Giants Stadium.......which happened to be the first game ever at Giants Stadium.......each team had 5 players with rushing attempts. how many can you name? Z

Without thinking there's the obvious... Doug Kotar, Larry Czonka, and our new QB, Craig Morton.

Not only did they give us Dallas in our first home game, but we had an ex-Dallas QB. I never really considered Morton to be true Blue.

With about 3or 4 seconds leftin that Redskin game the score was 69-41. Washington kicked a field goal to end it 72-41. Think that created some bad blood between us and the Redskins ?

if you read sam huff's autobiography,he says he's the one that called for the field goal unit to go out and kick that last fg,just to stick it to allie sherman for trading him.

like aunt Jean always said, the players all hated Allie. Sam Huff is always remembered as a Giant and he feels the same. He definitely blamed Allie... not the Giants. What a terrible time for Giant fans, and Giant players. Meanwhile, Tim and Well couldn't agree on anything and just let Allie do what he wanted... Godbye, Championship calibreDefense.

You might be right, as I could not figure out why it looks like 89 was on D.
But I saw it like the low Cowboy was the runner, and Giants were closing in on him. Especially # 3? hitting him as he hits ground. Isn't that a ball under the Cowboy ?

#39 can't be Czonka... he came after we moved in to the meadowlands... so, no baseball infield. If it's at the Cowboys, they didn't have a BB infield, either. So, I'm thinking Shea Stadium.

Tunnell was great, but he was a free lancer. The best I ever saw in a "system" or "scheme" if you will was Jim Patton. He was a fierce tackler (NEVER took on runners from the side; always head on including Jim Brown and Jim Taylor), and the other team just DIDN'T throw anywhere near him.

Jim Patton was tough as nails.......

I only saw the tail end of his career.....but even then he never pulled away from contact and was consistently knocking down balls

was deeply saddened to hear of his untimely death in the early 70s

Yeah... Patton was another big time fan fav, and he died way too early.

I didn't see any, although I didn't look hard... it's one of those threads I don't enjoy cuz I know there will be some bashing and I'm always a proponent of, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Yeah, I liked him, too. He was a very valuable piece to our team

Well, if I can't throw the 1st stone.....can I throw the first knife?

You're welcome to throwall the daggers you'd like... I can loan you my shotgun. What he did was very wrong, and he'sgoing to receivehis punishment. I don't have my head buried... I know the realities and brutal effectsof what he's done, and I don't approve at all. I just don'tlike to read other peoples condemning him, like they are all model citizens qualified to judge another human that they've never even met... and that his actions make him a total dirt bag, when the reality is that he has some redeeming characteristics that are positive. Just a sad situation, all around, but it's not for me to condemn him... and it doesn't changehis Giant dayswhen he preformed his butt off for the cheering/adoring fans... at that time. That was then... this is now.

Criminal Sexual Conduct and Burglary... 30 years. Surely he got the max because he has priors in sexual conduct. Simply put, he likes to abuse his women. Afew times it was witha current girkfriend, and some with more recent acquaintances... unlike Big Ben who has a problem before he even knows them.

It was just a joke, I honestly do not pay any attention to what these guys do off the field. I have met many pro athletes and just like anyone else they span the spectrum from scum to idol citizen. I have made many a mistake in my life and condemn few others. Meggett probably deserves it, but honestly he isn't worth my time or attention.

didnt want to start a whole new thread so I figured I would put my thoughts in here......

I usually try not to come here after a bad loss .......reason being what you see plaguing the boards right now......all the crying and this person sucks and that person sucks and who let down Eli and blah blah blah....

when the truth is......this is the same old Giants

nothing has changed .....ever.....

for as long back as I can remember........(when they were even somewhat good).........they would always lay some stinkers......

they have a habit of losing in a very embarrassing fashion for some reason.....this is nothing new......

Ive watched them do it in Championship games after playing beautifully all season......

.....or like when the Cardinals were in our division ........they would come in and beat us regularly while being a far inferior team......

I completely expected this loss......completely

that stinker was right on schedule.......nothing to panic about......

.....so in keeping with the theme of this thread....

what was the worst record team the Giants lost to while riding a 5 or more game winning streak?

......and when was it?

I can't remember a worse one than 1-7, but I do recall losing to the Cardinals after a winning streak a long time ago. Maybe '93 near the end of the season, I think we went to the play-offs after losing the last couple of games that year. Cardinals were like 4-9 or something, always was awful losing to them.

Ammazing how similarly we think, YA. To me this was inevitable, and I'll quietly let the pain pass as I await the Philly game. I don't thinkit will be the same as last year, with that collapse... two very different teams and we should rebound nicely... I hope. For now I'll be praying for a Redskins win tonight.

No clue on your answer... Jmike seems to have a viable answer, so I'll nod approval for her answer until proven differently. Those inexplicable losses are something I try to cleanse from my brain... I'm more inclined to remember a nice win in a bad year... not a bad loss in a good year... like when Kent Graham to Amani Toomer beat the undefeated Broncos at the meadowlands.

who are these Giants ? http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/3701/57327837.jpg Well judging by the uniforms, I'd say 1975. If that's a 64, then J Mendenhall..??

Looks like the Giants are going for a first down on offense*** 39 = Cszonka***** 84 ,*I think may be Walker Gillette?

Z

You might be right, as I could not figure out why it looks like 89 was on D. But I saw it like the low Cowboy was the runner, and Giants were closing in on him. Especially # 3? hitting him as he hits ground. Isn't that a ball under the Cowboy ? And..I think that #3? is actually #37 Bobby Brooks..?? Maybe I'm stretching it!

I'm just guessing Key............Z has point though , that does look like Shea Stadium.......which makes it the 1975 season thus no Cszonka. Did we wear those uni's in 1975?

Z

1975 was the one year they wore the funky "NY" on the helmet. It looks like it in this photo. I don't know if that's Shea, but it would make sense.

lol.. there was crap in the bed when this thread disappeared a few weeks back.. ! heres a question... Who is Trey Junkin??? the worst long snaper the world has seen. its unfortunate that his legacy was stained by that play.........he was a solid player for a lot of years in the league

It is sad that many will remember the botched snap.

Guy played 19 seasons in the NFL.

That is a huge accomplishment.
Ya know, he played all but one of those seasons elsewhere...Oakland, Seattle etc. It is not unreasonable for Giants fans to remember him for that one play. He will be remembered in other cities for his years of service. That seems like the right balance for me.

No, just got home....edited an earlier post, since noone answered I made it past tense.

For me some of us that are alone for Thanksgiving got together at work and chef cooked us all dinner, since he's alone this year too. It was good time, great food, football was on, but nobody was watching and as the only bartender there, I was making the drinks.

How was everyone's turkey?
Turkey was good Jmike but my mother, at 84 years old, continues to amaze with her mac and cheese which I've had every Thanksgiving since I could take solid food. She also bangs out a mean escarole soup. Pretty much a wine and beer affair as far as the adult beverages go. I was never wild about the lull after Thanksgiving and before Sunday football. This thread is a good place to bridge some of that time. Happy Thanksgiving JM and all the rest of you here at DYK! [:D]

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

I remember Everson Walls going for the int. on the play at the near sideline and I think it was Taylor that caught the pass and took it all the way.

My question is....

Who tackles Reasons on that fake punt?

I prefer to think it of it as Lawrence "Taylor made" when he recovered that Roger Craigfumble caused by Eric Howard! [;)]

That was the play. That play and Hoss rolling out and hitting Bavaro to get them closer on the final drive. Hoss never gets the credit he deserves.
