In 1997, Fassel's first season with the Giants started with a big win against the Giants and Dave Brown completed the longest pass in his career. Who caught it?

OK, just re-read your question. You didn't say longest TD, you said longest pass. I'll say Charles Way's 62 yd reception.

Bingo. Way had 3 receptions for 63 yards that day with a 62 yard long.

Did you mean the 1994 (not 1997) Opening Day win against the Eagles where Brown hit Callaway for a 51 yd TD?

Nope, meant 1997.

Ill take a shot in the dark

I guess that says something about Brown's career. His longest completion was to a 250 pound fullback. (that's a heckuva "go to" receiver lol)That was a tough question. I was thinking it might have been Calloway too.

It had to be a screen or something rite??? I would love to see that touchdown on video somewhere...but what a joke Dave Brown was...If they went to Kanell earlier that season maybe they would have earned a first round bye that year

IIRC, it was a fake reverse and then Brown turned and hit Way in the flat and he sprinted (or rumbled) down the right sideline for 62 yards. I may have some of that wrong...it was a few years ago..l.

Interesting stuff about Mr. Brown's legacy here:

7th in Career Passing yards.
7th in Wins
6th in completions
8th in Completion pct
7th in TDs
8th yrds/game
8th in QB rating

That is a lot of top tens for a fairly awful QB.

It says alot about our thin tradition at QB. Even some of our most notable like YA and Tarkention were brought in late in their careers and didn't have much time to "complile" numbers. If Dave Brown were a linebacker, I assure you he would be buried deep on page 3 of any ranking. [;)]

Not one second showing the pressure our D line put on Brady in that last series.* BOO.

hahahaha... I finally got it. I was stuck... could only think of Suebert's name always being mispronounced. Then it hit me... Not that they are mispronouncing Nick's name... they get it entirely wrong, and say Hicks.

John ( is it Jonathon?) Hicks... Ohio Stae Offensive lineman that peeps were thinking was a shoe-in All Pro before he ever even suited up.

thats him zimmy.... he never did show his 3rd overall value did he? Good question. IIRC, going into the Draft, he was touted as John "can't miss" Hicks.....but then he did.

I knew he was an early pick... 3rd? Wow, a waste. He was always getting injured. After 4 yrs we traded him to Pittsburgh. I don't know if he ever played there at all.

Another hahaha... This was an easy one (I think we've had Clack questions before). My head must be clearing today....Clack wore 56 and switched to 58 when LT came along in '81... that was Clack's last year with us, and then 58 was given to Carl Banks.

You're right, YA... Clack was well liked and respected by the fans. He had 2 rings with the Steelers before coming to us... just a good, tough vet.

Plenty from Georgia. But he was the offense for almost a decade and noone made a highlight video?

I can't think of the Pittsburgh WR's name, but if it's OK to ask another Jim Clack question, which (in)famous play did Clack snap the ball on?

Bingo. Clack snapped the ball to Joe Pisarcik on that infamous play.

Now back to the Steeler WR we received with Clack question...

Name this flashy dressing Giant with a Eurostyled nick name.

Wow, can anyone see this picture? In my edit mode the picture is there but on the thread the box is empty. Only YA could get this right without a picture lol.

i know he was traded to denver for a mid range pick...i think i know who we got for this pick, but i'm not sure...will guess reasons?
impressive rbc......and it was a 4th round pick

Reasons hit on Humprey....always worth revisiting** [:D]

Wow, I can't remember the last time that I saw one of our LB's make a play like that one.

sad thing is today that would be a $25,000 fine for leading with the head...to the head

immediately after the hit Madden says......"that is football"

You're probably right about an unfortunate fine...but I agree with Madden..."that is football"

I fully agree with big John as well

Wow, can anyone see this picture? In my edit mode the picture is there but on the thread the box is empty. Only YA could get this right without a picture lol.I can see it [the pic]when I hit the quote button Jomo.......Gotta be the one and only "Frenchy" Fuqua.........no?

Z
Bang! Well done SEC it was in fact the flamboyant John "Frenchy" Fuqua. He was no Clyde Frazier when it came to dressing but he was a pretty snappy dresser and a decent running back.

TY, SEC... made my evening. One of those clips you can watch forever.

agreed that clip is great...Reasons was over looked with all the great backers we had back then....wouldn't mind having him on the team now.

Reasons - the 4th best LB during his time. He would be, by far, the best on thiscurrent group.

Ok here's a decent one.
Which Giant intercepted Trent Dilfer in the Superbowl vs. Ravens and ran it back for a TD only to be negated by a holding penalty. And which Giant was responsible for the holding penalty?

grabbed the arm of the intended receiver.....whom I think was the RB....Jamal Lewis?

ah no, it was the RON DAYNE TRAIN, 16 carries for 46 yards and the only touchdown in a 13-3 win over the chiefs. i suppose the other answer would be morten andersen with 2 field goals and an XP. barber also had 70 all purpose yards.

this was also the game where kerry "tom turnover" collins started emerging with 3 picks and a recovered fumble.

In 1999, a season which saw our Giants start with one QB at the helm and finish with another. Saw our leading rusher finish the season with 348 yards rushing and 5 different RBs start a game. We finished a disappointing 7-9 that season, but started with a bang defeating a very good Tampa team 17-13. Which players scored the two touchdowns for the Giants that day?

andre weathers and christian peter...the only reason i know that without looking it up is because i was supposed to be at that game with an uncle of mine, and the whole deal fell through at the last minute...had to watch the game at a crummy little dump here in delaware, one of the few with satellite at the time, and the game stuck in my mind...i THINK that the bucs had some pretty raw calls go against them that day, too.

The following is right from Joe Gibbs in 1981 What player is this Gibbs is talking about?

{Not Giants related}.....just a funny story

"He had a camouflage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camouflage) outfit on", Gibbs recalled.

It was 10 o'clock in the morning and he's meeting his coach for the first time and I'm thinking [sarcastically], 'This guy really impresses me.' But I went in there, and halfway through the conversation he says, 'You need to get me back there. I'll make you famous.[13] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Riggins#cite_note-redskinsbook-12)

I thought to myself, 'Oh, my God, he's an egomaniac.' I thought, 'I'll get him back and then I'll trade him. I'm not putting up with a fruitcake.' So I fly back to Washington, and two days later he calls me. He says, 'Joe, I made up my mind, and I'm going to play next season.' I thought it was great. I've got him back, and I'll trade that sucker. But then he says, 'There's only one thing I want in my contract.' I ask what it was. He says, 'A no-trade clause.'[13] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Riggins#cite_note-redskinsbook-12)

Ok here's a decent one.
Which Giant intercepted Trent Dilfer in the Superbowl vs. Ravens and ran it back for a TD only to be negated by a holding penalty. And which Giant was responsible for the holding penalty?

Jesse Armstead.......pretty sure the hold was on Hamilton

grabbed the arm of the intended receiver.....whom I think was the RB....Jamal Lewis?

Correct!

Correct!

Ive studied that play endlessly.......that one hurt

It may have been lost in the shuffle, so I will re-ask.

Who scored the final NY Giants touchdown of the 1999 season?

Brian Alford with a 7yd TD pass from Kerry Collins and a Joe Montgomery run for the successful 2pt conversion after.

How many sacks did Strahan have on McNabb in the game against the Eagles when Ron Dixon almost ran for a miracle game-winning TD off a lateral from Tiki Barber after Tiki caught short pass from Collins on the last play of the game?

I am always fascinated by the difference in size between players from the 70's and today. John Mendenhall was one of my favorite players back then playing defensive tackle. To the nearest inch and 5 pound increment, what were Mendenhall's height and weight?

It's so hard anymore for me to get into a game that we're not in. In my teenage years and through my 30's I'd devour every college and pro game on the tube, and find a team I preferred in that matchup, and enjoy every minute.I didn't really care who won yesterday, with a little leaning towards the Pack. Been watching their play ever since they kicked our butt, and they've beenhot... just like we were in '07.

Anyways, it was a decent game, especially with Packer receivers dropping good passes, killing possession, and letting the Steelers crawl back in it.

IDK if it's the record, but the most I remember was when Plexico owned the Packers CBs in the '07 play-offs. I am fairly certain he edged out Ike for that game he had in 2000 when we blew out Minny.
