OK, peeps. Is the preseason schedule the same as it was originally supposed to be?? If so, I can go to either the bears, Monday, 8/22 at 8... or Jets, Saturday, 8/27 at 7. I'd rather see the jets on a Saturday night... but, I don't think we're going to play all that great on a saturday night right after a Monday night. That's kinda insane, sadisticscheduling.

Anyone want to meet out in the lots?? Last year we had rbcarpenter, SEC, and zim. Let's get more this year... let us know if you're going to either of those games and we'll get it on. Pass the word, this isn't limited to DYK peeps.... there are a whole lot of good peeps on here that I'd be happy to meet.

nice zim!!! good job man....We are 10-2 against them lifetime...Im 30 and in my lifetime i've never seen the giants play a close game with them really...we usually hammer them it seems. I guess 2001 we won like 13-3 or something that was kind of close.

he was great in the 90 nfc championship game imo...he could hit too. As for Percy him having more picks than seahorn doesnt mean much, there are a lot of things that go into picks, its just a stat, but having said that im still dumbfounded that he had 18 picks for his career....I associate him with bad football teams.

Emlen Tunnell is #1 in career interceptions for the Giants.

Who is 2nd and 3rd?

**** lynch...and mark collins???

Good guess, but incorrect on both of them.

Lynch was 4th on the list.

keyofgmen (/members/keyofgmen.aspx)

Your correct on Spider. He was 3rd on the list.

On top of that, poor Spider was always having to make the tackle in the secondary on running plays. Loved watching him as a kid. thats what I loved about him......he was great in coverage....and a really good tackler....plus a ball hawk...... thats the whole package right there..... plus he had speed is he considered the best giants DB ever?? If not who is?

Emlen Tunnell.

Little tidbit about Tunnell. He was the first African American to play for the Giants. He was also the first African American to be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

79 career interceptions... That is amazing..

wow..good stuff i didnt know any of that...It seems that we had some great secondary players in the past..The best in my lifetime has been mark collins, he isnt even close to these players it seems.

I also thought Collins was excellent, and he is at least one of our top 7-8 CB's of all time. He was always*solid in run support, too.

And, who mentioned Percy E with 18 INT's??* *Wow. Jason Sehorn had 19! I'll bet a lot of people who have no problem remembering Sehorn have totally forgot about Ellsworth.* Of course, Sehorn has got about the most excellent INT in Giant history.
Sehorn was also good. Ellsworth had a nose for the ball but was a terrible tackler, avoided contact, couldn't stick with receivers, terrible on specials, was virtually useless in all facets of the game, but he could pick a few. He made 18 good plays in his career it appears.

Seahorn was ok...he made some big plays but I always thought Phillippi Sparks was a much better corner. I feel Sparks is underated by giants fans.

Funny story about Philippi...My history teacher in HS(about 8 or 9 years ago) told me the only time he encountered racism was when he was playing baseball at Arizona State. He was friends with Phillipi and they were at a store shopping and Phillipi told my teacher that the security guards were following him because he was black...Of course my teacher thought that was crazy, so they decided to split up, and sure enough both security guards followed Phillipi and left my teacher(the white baseball player at the time) alone.

Yeah we did love him and the nickname, which you got correct (well done), had more frustration than anger attached to it. The mental aspect of kicking is not discussed as much as it should be. There is very little margin for physical error and if your head isn't screwed on just right, it falls apart quickly.

Actually, that whole team was unique; mostly undersized w/ the exception of Rosy Brown on O, and Rosy Grier on D. They were very smart and played to gether as a team on both sides of the ball. The O began to use the (gasp) play action pass, and with Gifford, the RB option pass. Receivers out of the backfield was common. On D, they invented the 4-3, courtesy of Landry. One of the most underrated players was Jim Patton, no. 20 who was the only DB to take on both Jim Brown and Jim Taylor head on. He weighed about 180.

If that was the team with Darrell Dess and Bookie Bolin at guards, our interior line averaged about 230 lbs at an average of 6'1".

The guards in the '50's were Jack Stroud, Jerry Huth, Bill Austin, Ray Beck, and some guy named Barry that I don't remember at all. Dess arrived around '59 and was bigger. Bolin I think arrived in '62. I met Dess in New Castle, PA in 1976 or 77. He seemed HUGE to me, had to be 6'3", 280. Nice guy, and he raved about Gifford as being one of the classiest men he ever met. Darrell invited all the team to his wedding, and at the time, Giff had become a TV analyst, very rich and famous. He wired Darrell from CA. that he'd try to make the wedding, but couldn't stay for the reception due to commitments. He flew into Pgh. and made the wedding of, as Dess put it, one of the grunts.
Compared to most of the other NFL teams, they were small. Good recall JOMO!

Ok, I was hoping someone would have an answer... but Woody was before my time and I only knew who the NFL teakm was that he played for... I won't give you that answer, yet.

He was a world class decathlete.

His wife was a Hawaiin princess, related to their Queen

I won't give the NFL team, nor the UCLA player that he played with. That UCLA back is one of the all-time great baseball players and I'm thinking one of you will figure it out... they starred for UCLA in the 1939 season

I think only San Fran had a better record. We lost a game to them that year... and, I think we lost an Eagles game... they also had a good team that year.

It was the Rams/Flipper Anderson playoff loss at the Meadowlands that I'd like to forget. One and done.

we got our revenge the next year :)

I'm in shock. Never imagined this. 2 Mil guaranteed? I would say we probably offered him half that... and rightly so because he's surely going to miss 6-8 games, and who knows if he'll ever be effective again. On his part... he may have the same concerns, so the $2 mil gives him more security for his future... so, he took the money.

We look foolish, but I don't blame the FO for being cautious.

This bites... I think thethought of him being an Eagle is worse than the concern that he'll come back to hurt us.

I'll miss him as well, he was one of my favorties...Eagles are def going for it this year...Their Oline is suspect and the middle of that D is weak imo... I also think the giants will be better off than them in the future....I think we def take a TE in the 1st round next year, with the loss of smith and boss.

good point but JR has shown that he will provide Eli with weapons....with the loss of smith and boss, I hope he finds someone to fill the void those two will leave when it comes to someone who is a posession/middle of the field type player. TE makes sence imo.

Of course he was an excellent punter, even by today's standards. He also carried the ball now and then, and threw a few HB option passes.

I think his FG% was lower... maybe 70%, or less.

Striaght on kicking and some really bad field conditions also effected the FG% back then

I remember listening to my transistor radio (must have been a home game which they used to black out in those days). Chandler boomed an enormous punt whichtook a huge forward roll. The total distance on the punt may have been something like90 yards. Of course Marty Glickman made the call memorable. Does anyone recall such a punt?

yes jomo...

not sure if it was 90 yards.....but I do recall a big deal being made about an extremely long punt.......it was in his later years with us.....he was probably a better punter than place kicker actually

he was also a very affective punter for the Packers

I'm guessing that **** Lynch and Emlen Tunel are in there somewhere.

RICH Lynch is one, George Martin #2, still waiting for the last one.

Emlen Tunnell is tied at #2 with 4 INT TDs, but 0 fumble touchdowns. Rich Lynch is 4-1, Martin is 3-2.

However, if playoff stats are included, there is a 4th player with 5 defensive scores. but thats beyond the point

Tom Landry, wow. I wasn't surprised that there were alot of old timers. For starters, we had some great DB's back then. Secondarily, I think the game has changed in that guys with great hands who liked to hit could be a DB back then. Today, coaches are making the cut early based on hands/no hands.

As of now, I'm gonna be in the lot around 12. RBC is good to go. Jomo has a conflict, and don't know about SEC. I expect there still could be changes. Boy, I'm not real confidant you're going to have an easy trip east. I'll send you my PH# by PM.

to all going to the game on saturday...unfortunately,i will not be able to attend due to the weather.i will be able to get into jersey, but not back into delaware after the game if i attend.all the bridges are supposed to be closed at noon.if they actually play,i will be out 100$.[:(][:'(].(and right now i really can't afford a hotel,so any way you look at it,i am screwed...oh,and i live about 100 yards off the bay(if you look at a map of delaware city, delaware, you'll see where i'm at)and i am going to be evacuated out of town at around 10 or 11a.m. tomorrow.sigh, this is going to make for a loooong weekend.but most importantly to those of you who go to the game......be safe!

Anyoner else going, that wants to hook up in the lot before the game, please PM me your cell #, and I'll give you mine. I'll call you when I arrive at the stadium and advise where we're hanging. I'll prob get there 4:30-5, and just bringing subs and some brews ... not enough brews to get belligerent with Jets fans...lol. Leave your knives and guns at home... we learned our lessons through Plax. If you see a Jet fan wearing sweat pants, be very cautious.

Well, I'm sure you're enjoying your stay in sunny LA. Things are shut down tight in the NY area and millions evacuated... Irene may be petering out, but there will surely be flooded areas. So, sit back and enjoy, because millions have to return by auto, plane, train, etc. and the roads will be packed late tomorrow night and on Monday.

In his career as a Giant how many fumbles did Otis Anderson have?
very few.... ill say 4In 6 seasons it was only 3. In his 6 years with the Cards he fumbled 48 times.

What 3 former Giants played with Bill Parcells on 2 other franchises. (So that is 3 spots with Parcells one of them with the Giants).

Dave Meggett

William Roberts

Yes for Meggett, no for Roberts.

William Roberts played for the Patriots and Jets. Under Parcells.

You are correct. There was only 2 and those are them. My apologies......

Who was the last active NFL player to have played in the USFL?

Reggie White?

Normal 2 Hour drive to Meadowlands took 4 hours... so only had 1/2 hour to spend with RBCarpenter and Karen. It was great to see him again this year. We're hoping next year we'll get some more of you scragglers to a game. RBC made better time fromDelaware than I did from NE PA.

We out-gained them, and probably outplayed them for 3 Qtrs., but couldn't make the big play in their territory.

Eli is still making some bad decisions, and still not pushing forward off his right leg on every pass... which is merely BASIC stuff!!!... Every QB and every baseball player does this as second nature from the time they throw their first rock. he should have mastered this in High School!! Time to show that you've conquered the Basics, Eli! You'd be horrified if one of your QB students did the same regularly.

Sanchez threw only one decent pass... and it was the game winner.

I'm rooting for Plax to do well... but, I was thrilled that he was blanked last night.

Z
Good to have you back SEC, wondering where you had been hanging out. You are back just in time. We need a bolt of energy going into the season.

By the way regarding the storm, I haven't seen a single LIPA or Cablevision truck since the storm began. I've seen tree crews and Verizon truck but my little town still has half its traffic lights not working and dozens of power lines down across streets. Did our crews take off to help out in North Carolina?

So, I got to thinking with all the talk of Eli throwing off his back foot. (Not what this is about)

It kept bugging me..I kept seeing this play in my mind...and then I remembered it!

So the question is..

One of the most famous passes in NFL history was thrown off the back foot.....
Can you name it?

I played QB in high school. I still own (since 1964) the school record for softball throw distance. I would have pitched but I was as likely to hit someone as throw a strike, so the guys didn't want to take BP from me. I played centerfield.

Anyways, I'm righty, like Eli, and like every other guy I push off of my right foot as I stride forward to beginmy throw, with my weight transferred to my right footwhen I actually release the ball.My right foot is, therefore, my back foot.

When a guy has most of his weight on his left foot, or is pretty flat-footed, and throws without that stride initiated by his right foot, it's a weak throw, and they call it passing off his Back Foot.

Why? Why don't thay just say he threw off of his left foot?
