what Giants kicker is tied with Pete Gogolak for Giants PAT record with 133 ?

Tynes???

Tynes it is

who is pete goglak? when did he play?

Pete Gogolak was the NFLs very first soccer style kicker

he played for the Giants from '65 to '74

they got him on a controversial signing when Well Mara broke the unwritten rule between the AFL and NFL that they would not sign each others players...he was previously playing for the Bills

this prompted Al Davis to start snagging NFL players

and this whole war ultimately ended up in a merger....

Hey guys. I thought this might be the best place for this question.

Has a team ever been the visitor twice in one season at the same stadium?

Are you looking for the answer, Rosie, or do you already know?

This sounds very familiar... like, YES, it has happened. But, I can't remember where or when.

Of course, if you count preseason visits, the most recent was Carolina visiting the Giants in preseason, within the past couple of years, then again in the regular season in a normal 'away' game for them. This probably happens every year in the NFL... so, I'm pretty sure you mean being visitor 2X during regular season.

The N.O. Saints in 2005 played the NY Giants in the Meadowlands because Hurricane Katrina closed the Super Dome. Then later in the year they were back in the Meadowlands to play the Jets.

I remember going to the back yard and pretending I could kick "soccer style" !!

Ok folks.. a new game.

I will throw a quote at you (from a reliable source that some of you may have) and you match it to the Giant that said it. I will give 4 options.
Some of these go way back!

Here is 1st one:

"You never want to tell a coach you can't do it because there's always someone else on the sideline waiting for a chance, and he might just go out there and do it"

A) Fran Tarkenton
B) Brandon Jacobs
C) Y.A. Tittle
D) Carl Banks

Ah yes, but the Saints were officially the Home team at our stadium if you recall.

With the Jets and Giants sharing a stadium, it probably happens more often than you would think. Like the Dolphins vs. Jets yesterday and the Dolphins vs. Giants in Week 8, same with the Cowboys this season too. Just simply, 25% of the time that the Jets and Giants share common opponents in a regular season, the opponent plays in Giants Stadium twice.

And it's totally possible for an opponent to play at Giants Stadium three times in one season. Example, Cowboys vs. Jets, Cowboys vs. Giants (Regular Season), Cowboys vs. Giants (Playoff game).

So how many times has a team played 3 times in a season at Giants Stadium???

I think it was 88 or 89 - get those two mixed up - one was the Flipper Anderson runway play to end it - the other was Al Toon in the left corner of the end zone, over, I want to say, Flynn on a late drive to have the Jets eliminate the Giants.

Watching the Saints put up 62 on the Colts last night I was reminded of the last time the Giants scored over 60....

We*beat NO as visitors in 2005.* The only other team I can think of would have to be the Jets. I can't remember when it would have been.

It was the jets and this loss was a tough one for the giants and their fans.

YES... I remember it well. That loss cost us a trip to the Playoffs. All we had to do was*beat the Jets our last game.* I think*we ended up 9-7, instead of 10-6. I can't remember the exact year. I'll bet someone else does remember.

I think it was 88 or 89 - get those two mixed up - one was the Flipper Anderson runway play to end it - the other was Al Toon in the left corner of the end zone, over, I want to say,* Flynn on a late drive to have the Jets eliminate the Giants.

Watching the Saints put up 62 on the Colts last night I was reminded of the last time the Giants scored over 60....

Against who, what year, and what was the final score?

I couldn't wait, and looked it up.... hope you don't mind, allentown.* I knew '89 was Flipper. You're right Ros... the Jets*loss was*'88, and that loss finished*our season at 10-6..

11-5 and we make the playoffs.

The Jets finished at 8-7-1.

yup you guys got it...good job zim and Roswell...It was 1988 we lost the season finale to the jets...what a miserable way to end the season...it kept us from winning the division and getting to the playoffs. It doesn't feel like that game could have been 23 years ago. I guess that means it hurt really bad huh?

yeah, jomo... *my initial thought was 1998, 1999. Then I realized it wasn't that time frame. When Ros mentioned Flipper I remembered that horrid 3 years after out SBXXI win... Strike year in '87, then the Jet loss in '88, and Flipper in '89. Thank God for '90.* Hard to believe it was that long ago..

Hey you guys never answered my question lol....

Webeat NO as visitors in 2005. The only other team I can think of would have to be the Jets. I can't remember when it would have been.

It was the jets and this loss was a tough one for the giants and their fans.

YES... I remember it well. That loss cost us a trip to the Playoffs. All we had to do wasbeat the Jets our last game. I thinkwe ended up 9-7, instead of 10-6. I can't remember the exact year. I'll bet someone else does remember.

Against who, what year, and what was the final score?

This question slipped thru the cracks, Ros.

I'd have to look it up. I'm thinking the 50's, or early 60's when we had YA.

Perhaps our own YA will remember.

I remember a few 40 burgers but no 60s......so im lost here I'll give you guys a clue. It happened around thanksgiving time, more recently than when the Giants had Y.A.

I seem to remember Randy Johnson putting up 62 against the eagles. i think it was 62-10. Maybe around '72.

OK, I peaked... it was 1972. But, I won't say who we played because I still believe YA knows this answer without breaking a sweat.

I peaked as well because I didn't know the answer. All I can say is that you will enjoy hearing the team on the receiving end of the drubbing in 1972. judging by what jomo said Ill say the Eagles but I honestly dont remember putting up 60 pts ....and im disappointed in myself :)That's it YA, we hung 62 on the Eagles in 1972! I guess my smile came throughin thehint.

Ron Johnson, Bob Tucker and Don Hermann scored 2 touchdowns each in that game.

One of my all time favorite defeats of the Eagles. 62 - 10, November of 72. Watching the Monday night game reminded me.

here's the oddest thing about those 62 points in the '72 season... we weren't offensive juggernauts. With Norm Snead at the controls, we scored those 62. The next highest for the season was 45. Then, we had games of 27, 23, 27, and 29. In 8 games we scored less than 20. In the 2 games leading up to 62 we scored 13 and 13. In the 2 games after the 62 we scored 10 and 13.

It was just one of thoseunexpected gamesin an 8-6 year under Alex Webster.

I seem to remember that the QB was Randy Johnson. I remember that I couldn't watch the game and I was listening to it on the radio.

I guess at some point the Giants took Snead out, considering the score. I remember the game because of the final score, but none of the details other than it was around Thanksgiving. That's a great link, thanks M. St.

Howdy everyone. Let's hope our Post Bye Blues are a thing of the past.

Needed to think of a question to get DYK back up top. I found this question while researching another... I think it is a goody... definitely Giant related.

Who was the WFL quarterback who threw the last pass in that league's last year of existence, 1975?

Who was the WFL quarterback who threw the last pass in that league's last year of existence, 1975?
OK Zim, since no one has responded I'll take a wild crack at it. I know 2guys who played quarterback in the WFL. Gary Danielson and Jim Fassell. On one hand I figure you'd put a Giant alum up there as a DYK question but I am not sure that Fassell ever played. I will therefore GUESS Gary Danielson.

If you have a corner of your brain capable of storing that kind of useless info (Fassel would disagree), then more power to ya'... especially since my brain is similar... I have alwaysamazed my older sisters with stuff I remember from when I was 2 and 3 and 4. "Wow, you're right. How could you remember that?" Many silly things have always stuck in my brain, like forgotten lint. :)

Wiki tells how fassel was on the verge of getting the Redskins job, 2X, only to have Gibbs and then Shanahan get the job at the last moment.

I thought he did a good job in 2000. It was a process ofthe players bondingfrom spring training to the end. Poor Collins... hisinability to read a defense was exposed in that game. The Ravens totally confused him. It was the next spring training that Fassel took away Kerry's ability to audible at the line... he was more likely to call a worse play than the ones the coaches sent in...lol. But, he had a nice arm.

Okay you guys...

Here is a complicated question. The following ten achievements need to be put in order from 0 to 9. Zero meaning it never happened, one happened once...you get the idea.

OJ Anderson Super Bowl TDs
Coughlin career playoff victories
Amount of times Bavaro fumbled
Giant SB appearances
Gary Reasons career safeties
Lionel Manuel career rushing attempts
Kenny Phillips career fumble recoveries
Ron Johnson career punt returns
George Martin career defensive TDs
Rich Houston career TD receptions

Place these in order from zero to nine. Enjoy.

ive thought this out and ill take a stab......but I think I have some with the same amounts ......so I must be wrong on some...but here goes

0 - Johnson punt returns.....pretty sure he only returned kicks

1 - Gary Reasons safetys...pretty sure on this one

2 - OJ Superbowl TDs

3 - Martin TDs

4 - Giant SB appearances

5 - kinda lost here so Ill put Phillips here even though I dont think he has had 5 fumble recoveries

6 - Bavaro fumbles.....I know this one from being asked here before

7 - Ill put Houston here by process of elimination but I dont really know ...7 and 9 could be interchangeable to me.....just not sure

8 - Coughlin career playoff wins

9 - Manuel ?..... or Houston?....not sure

how'd I do ?

And I put this together because this thread is my favorite and the guys who contribute I consider knowledgeble Giant fans and over the last couple of weeks it has gone dormant. So this is kind of a "team meeting" to make sure it keeps on keepin' on.
I tried to pick a bunch of obscure stats from a lot of different eras because everything else I ask you guys you get in ten seconds lol.

Okay you guys...

Here is a complicated question. The following ten achievements need to be put in order from 0 to 9. Zero meaning it never happened, one happened once...you get the idea.

OJ Anderson Super Bowl TDs
Coughlin career playoff victories
Amount of times Bavaro fumbled
Giant SB appearances
Gary Reasons career safeties
Lionel Manuel career rushing attempts
Kenny Phillips career fumble recoveries
Ron Johnson career punt returns
George Martin career defensive TDs
Rich Houston career TD receptions

Place these in order from zero to nine. Enjoy.

ive thought this out and ill take a stab......but I think I have some with the same amounts ......so I must be wrong on some...but here goes

0 - Johnson punt returns.....pretty sure he only returned kicks

1 - Gary Reasons safetys...pretty sure on this one

2 - OJ Superbowl TDs

3 - Martin TDs

4 - Giant SB appearances

5 - kinda lost here so Ill put Phillips here even though I dont think he has had 5 fumble recoveries

6 - Bavaro fumbles.....I know this one from being asked here before

7 - Ill put Houston here by process of elimination but I dont really know ...7 and 9 could be interchangeable to me.....just not sure

8 - Coughlin career playoff wins

9 - Manuel ?..... or Houston?....not sure

how'd I do ?

YA

You are knocking on the door. You have to just switch two and you've got the answer. Naturally, I can't tell you which two need to be switched but I have to say I thought this would stump you guys a lot more than it did.

Very impressive.

I couldn't wait, lol, and looked it up and George Martin had 5 defensive TD's and Kenny Phillips has had 3 fumble recoveries

(2) Questions: Goerge Martin had 3 INT's that he returned for TDs and 2 Fumble Recoveries for TDs.

How many total TDs did George have in his career?

How many INT's did he have in his career?

Two guesses

Assuming that he had more TD's than the 5 he scored on D, I'll say he had one pass reception on a goal line situation for a total of 6 TD's.

I'll also go with 5 ints total.

Anyways, the stat is... what WR leads the league for the most receiving yards gained on 3rd down?

For sure: Tittle = 4 seasons; Offensive TDs= 9; Dan Lloyd and Defensive TDs = 0 (kinda like a trick question...lol); Montana over Simms = 1; Simms over Montana = 3

Educated guess: Cross fumbles = 8 (I would have guessed more than 10 in his 13 seasons, and 9 for SB TDs is a sure thing, so cross fumbles has to be 8

again ....an amazing question.....and again ill take a shot

this one was harder than the other ....simply because I knew less off the top of my head and have to resort to guessing

so here goes my guesses

SB offensive TDs - 9
Herb Welch - 8
Meggett - 7
Howard Cross - 6
Eli college rushing TD - 5
Tittle - 4
Byron Williams - 3
Simms wins - 2
Montana wins - 1
Dan Lloyd + SB def. TD - 0

quite a few of those were by process of elimination but Im am positive about maybe 4 of them

another award winning question

0 thru 9. Part Deux

Put the following accomplishments in numerical order 0 thru 9.

Y.A. Tittle career seasons with the NY Giants
NY Giants offensive Super Bowl TDs
Dan Lloyd career sacks + NY Giants defensive Super Bowl TDs
Montana career playoff victories vs Simms
Simms career playoff victories vs Montana
Howard Cross career fumbles
Eli Manning college career rushing TDs
Herb Welch ints as a NY Giant
Byron Williams years in NFL
Dave Meggett career punt return TDs

Good luck

again ....an amazing question.....and again ill take a shot

this one was harder than the other ....simply because I knew less off the top of my head and have to resort to guessing

so here goes my guesses

SB offensive TDs - 9
Herb Welch - 8
Meggett - 7
Howard Cross - 6
Eli college rushing TD - 5
Tittle - 4
Byron Williams - 3
Simms wins - 2
Montana wins - 1
Dan Lloyd + SB def. TD - 0

quite a few of those were by process of elimination but Im am positive about maybe 4 of them

another award winning question

Once again you are knocking on the door. You just have to switch two of them. I like these types of questions because they encompass all different Giant eras.

As far as Simms vs Montana, a lot of people don't realize that Simms had a winning record against Montana in the playoffs. Except for us and maybe, Simms, that is.

I know you forgot Hoss. He was great in 1990. A lot of people doubted him but they didn't doubt him in the NYG locker room. And he delivered. Big time. At home against the Bears, in SF when they were going for a threepeat and vs a great Bills team.

He was awesome in those games when it counted.

In the pressure cooker after Phil got hurt and all Hoss did was not make mistakes. He was a superb replacement and we were blessed to have him that year. With the nice bunch of vets he had around him, they all kept him calm and focused on 1 play at a time. His scrambling ability was a nice asset, too.

To take what Hoss did away from him and give it all to Simms is really unfair. Of you're going to start revising history like that, you might as well go back and give Kerry Collins a win against the 49ers because they couldn't snap a field goal, or a win for Eli Manning against the Eagles because the defense couldn't stop a team from waltzing down the field to take the win, or give Fassel two wins because he lost two playoff games by dumb flukey plays. Then you can start giving the Raiders moral victories against the Pats. It doesn't work that way. Hoss took the team and won those games. Who's to say what Hoss would have done if he started game 1? If he's good enough to win a super bowl and actually make plays, not just be along for the ride, who's to say what he would have done in the regular season? Keep in mind, Hoss actually won a playoff game with the Raiders, making him 4-0 in the postseason at one point.

Which reminds me, Collins entered Super Bowl XXXV with a surprising playoff record. What was it?

I don't remember a lot from that game but I do remember Montana running, faking like he was going to run out of bounds and turning it upfield when a Giant dback pulled up.

That and Currier dropping an int. right in his breadbasket on the first drive.

So, YA pitched 8-1/3 innings of shutout balland Zim threw one pitch for a game ending double play.

Mission accomplished.

Here you go guys and gals.... 0 thru 9. Part Deux Put the following accomplishments in numerical order 0 thru 9. Y.A. Tittle career seasons with the NY Giants NY Giants offensive Super Bowl TDs Dan Lloyd career sacks + NY Giants defensive Super Bowl TDs Montana career playoff victories vs Simms Simms career playoff victories vs Montana Howard Cross career fumbles Eli Manning college career rushing TDs Herb Welch ints as a NY Giant Byron Williams years in NFL Dave Meggett career punt return TDs Good luck again ....an amazing question.....and again ill take a shot this one was harder than the other ....simply because I knew less off the top of my head and have to resort to guessing so here goes my guesses SB offensive TDs - 9 Herb Welch - 8 Meggett - 7 Howard Cross - 6 Eli college rushing TD - 5 Tittle - 4 Byron Williams - 3 Simms wins - 2 Montana wins - 1 Dan Lloyd + SB def. TD - 0 quite a few of those were by process of elimination but Im am positive about maybe 4 of them another award winning question

Once again you are knocking on the door.* You just have to switch two of them.* I like these types of questions because they encompass all different Giant eras.

As far as Simms vs Montana, a lot of people don't realize that Simms had a winning record against Montana in the playoffs.* Except for us and maybe, Simms, that is.

cant figure out which ones to switch maybe Eli college TD and Byron Williams? No you are good on those. I would tell you but the other guys might want to pull a plaxico and take a shot. Im still in this..... dont give it away Cross and Meggett ? You are halfway there.

I think YA needs to swap Cross (6) and Welch (8)... to Cross (8) and welch (6)

And that's why they call Zim the closer.

YA gets the win.* Zim, the save.

Before the NO game I said that we need to be 10-6 with (2) defeats of Dallas and (1) of the Redskins... then we can win either the Jets or New orleans, figuring the packers would be tougher than either of them.
If we play a great game we can beat the Pack... but that D is going to have be a whole lot better than they were against NO. I don't think this Defensive secondary can play zone, especially with the raw Amukamara... he'll be much better at Man until he can learn the coverages.
I still think we get in at 10-6 and the (4) victories I stated... everyone will be jumping ship if we lose this week, but we can still get there.
That being said, if we make it I don't think we go too far with this secondary, LB's and Offensive line. Jacobs is definitely not what he was, but I have yet to see a hole opened by our line that is more than a foot wide. Geezuz, I remember Joe Morris getting holes the size of Cadillacs back in '86.

I think that having Diehl back at tackle might actually help our running game because he gets a much better push than Beatty. I don't know what to make of Baas. The defensive line hasn't played up to their potential. If they could just approach the ferocity we expected, that would mask the issues we have at LB and DB.

You could be right... I haven't paid enuf attention to Petrus to have that confidence. Yes, Beatty could be fine at RT, as long as Diehl has 2-3 more years in him at LT. Diehl is better at LT than Beatty... so far. Beatty is still young.
So, assuming you're right, then I want that 1st rnd stud LB. I don't expect a HOFer, like LT or Carson... or even Banks, who is a HOFer in my book... but someone as good as Reasons would be good. How about another Pepper, or Armstead?

I was so bummed today. No way we should lose 2X to this Skins team. But, when you look seriously at our team we are very weak at LB and Defensive secondary and if we make the playoffs we aren't going too far.
As soon as Nicks dropped that pass I was like, "Uh OH, this might not be our day." Then the punt that was nearly stopped at the 1 foot line, but wasn't. You have to make your own breaks. I've seen too many days of these 'almost' games. Let's beat the Jets and make our Christmas a lot merrier.

agreed on everything zim...love nicks but he needs to make that play...hit him in the facemask wtf...to be honest u could see this coming a mile a way...we can def beat the jets imo but only time will tell...on a side note the lber play and the tackling by our secondary is a major issue imo.

I thought so, too. After the failure of the "Wills" I was excited about Ross' future. This year I was hoping he wouldn't make the team... mainly because he admitted, a few years ago, that he wasn't motivated... and he played that way. I didn't even want him as 'depth'. You have to have passion for the game to play at a consistently high level in the Pros.

I helped the Giants clinch the NFC Eastern Division Title with a 76 yard punt return in a 34-17 win over the LA Raiders.

Who am I?

(hint - I also scored on a 57 yard pass from Simms to help the Giants beat the Broncos (in Denver)14-7 earlier in the year)

dont know for sure....but gotta be Meggett

winner

SEC!!! great question.
Don Maynard... he caught 5 passes for us in his rookie year, 1958, and then 627 passes for the Titans/Jets in his next 13 years

Z
Incredibly so SEC. We win out and we are division champs at 9-7. We lose this week-end and we have to endure an off season of shame. Incredible parity, for better and for worse.
