Who caught the first TD in the 2000 NFC Championship game?

Pretty sure that was Ike Hilliard. 41-0. As Randy Moss said, 41 to doughnut. I sat there with my son in Giants Stadium and we couldn't stop smiling. So much promise for the SB, and then the Colts D just owned Collins.

that would be the Ravens

If there was one my guess would be Earnest Gray. In that same season Phil Simms had that gruesome compound fracture of his right thumb. Who were we playing and against what players helmet did Simms hand hit putting him out for the season?

in the abysmal 1983 season.....did the Giants have a 1000 yd receiver?

if so who was it?

If there was one my guess would be Earnest Gray. In that same season Phil Simms had that gruesome compound fracture of his right thumb. Who were we playing and against what players helmet did Simms hand hit putting him out for the season?

I can't totally remember, but think he hit one of his lineman's helmet... either Gordon King or J.T. Turner. I think it was at home against the Rams.

I loved this team, because you could see the parts fitting in what would be our first SB Champ, after years of futility.Simms leading the O. L.T. and Harry leading the D.

I was never aware that they had a nickname for the old turf, but do you remember the huge crown on the old playing surface? It must have been for drainage.

What was the name of the band that played at halftime of most Giants games in Giants Stadium in the 70's and early 80's?

3) Only playing one season, which New York Giants kicker put on one of the worst kicking displays in NFL history going 1 of 15?

You guys are coming fast and furious with the questions.

Bob Timberlake... yeah 1 - 15, a very forgettable performance, but he sticks in my brain because of his name. Ya got to remember he was signed as a QB, not a kicker. He became a minister after he was cut... he played just the one year for us, 1965. We knew we needed a kicker after that year andstole Pete Gogolak away from the Bills toheighten the NFL/AFL wars at that time.

LOL... no, jints 10, the rule is, if you have to look it up, you have to admit it. Scroll back thru this thread and you'll see a lot of times I said I had to look the answer up. I've been using the History page for 10 years to learn Giant history... that is the link that YA wants.

Go to the top of this page and click on History. On that next page, scroll down to: All Time Statistical Information... 1960-2002 Stats, Scores, and Rosters. Good stuff there... the only bad thing is they only have the starting roster, not the subs.

We played the St. Louis Cardinals and lost 24-17. I was 8 years old and didn't quite get the impact of what just happened to our Nation. Wasn't that the day Oswald got shot? as far as I know it is true....

it was very common for Irish and Italian families to lose the vowels at the beginning and end of their names when entering this country because Irish and Italian immigrants were looked upon as criminals, lazy and drunks......sometimes it was just left off paperwork at Ellis Island by accident......sometimes on purpose.....

so yeah as far as I know their original name was O'mara

I was a senior in HS when JFK was assasinated, heading to my last class of the day when a teacher came up to me and told me. After the last class students were just standing in the halls, trying to figure out why. Many were crying.

I was watching the tube, live, when Oswald was shot. You could see them walking Oswald down a ramp and not really paying any attention as Ruby walked up to him, unquestioned, and shot him. At that second I thought "Set Up" because the cops were so inattentive.

On the day of the Giant game I was at the golf course, caddying. I caddied from age 11 to 21... really excellent money at a private course on Long Island. We started first week of April and caddied until Thanksgiving, so I missed every weeks game until December.

OK. A new one. A few years ago, I did a "Trivia for Tickets" thing on this board. I gave away 2 pre season Tix to the 1st person to answer the question correctly, I did it for 2 years but stopped because I felt like was potentially giving my seats to folks that I would not feel Ok with in my seats. I would like to do again for this year, but ???

Anyway, the 1st time I did it, the answer was a Giant that was my "Uncle". He was my fathers best friend. (Still is). To this day we call him "Uncle......" My Dad went to Med School (despite being invited by the Giants, Rams, and Packers for a visit as a Center). His best friend went on to play for the Giants from 1955-60.

My 1st Trivia for Tickets answer was him. Man, I can't believe how lucky I was in those days, without realizing it.

He was a LB and eventually was a HC in the NFL.

A clue will be ...my Dad and him graduated Wash ST 1953

The Sunday after President Kennedy was assassinated was a game I will never forget.....

...I was pretty young but it is etched in my memory like a stone carving.....

...the National Anthem never felt quite like it did that day........I remember feeling like everyone around me was singing with all their might...lots of tears on unfamiliar faces......

who did the Giants play on that gloomy November day?

,,,and who won the game?

We played the St. Louis Cardinals and lost 24-17. I was 8 years old and didn't quite get the impact of what just happened to our Nation. Wasn't that the day Oswald got shot? I seem to remember my Father listening to the carradio and looking shocked at the news so soon after the Presidents assassination. Or was that on Saturday?

Z

yeah that was the day..........

I had just turned 10 and I remember it so clearly.....

...I also was a little confused as to what had went on.....i knew bad stuff happened...really didnt understand the impact......

that day at the stadium had a very strange feel to it.......I remember my old man trying to explain to me that the man who shot the president was killed.....

......I couldnt understand why this was happening......I remember wondering if they were going to come to my house to kill my family.......I was very confused...hahaha

but yeah the Cards beat us that day.......I loved seeing YA throw touchdowns....thats all I cared about at the time...

we were in a 1959 Ford Skyliner.....2 tone blue and white.....I can still see the interior......ole dad tried to explain it to me.....I wanted to talk about YA

As best as my memory recalls , I was well aware something terrible had happened but to grasp itat our young age was tough. I do remember the National Anthem being very emotional for everybody. Sad , sad ,day. Do you recall Pete Rozell's [sp] greatest regret as commissioner of the NFL?

We were in a 1962 Chevy Impala when that news broke...........surreal

How did our last play [when we had the ball]on the Cardinals 20 something yard line end?

Z

didnt we fumble the ball away?

OK. A new one. A few years ago, I did a "Trivia for Tickets" thing on this board. I gave away 2 pre season Tix to the 1st person to answer the question correctly, I did it for 2 years but stopped because I felt like was potentially giving my seats to folks that I would not feel Ok with in my seats. I remember watching on TV when Harry picked off Montanafor that TD We were going crazy Off the top of my head I'd say Butch Wolflok? [sp]

who Im thinking of was technically a FB...but i believe he was the only other person to run the ball that day besides little Joe....wasnt Butch and wasnt Carpenter....who I believe was also in that game...

what second year man wearing #84 was the leading receiver in that same playoff game?

Easy one. TE Zeke Mowatt

absolutely...thats why I gave the jersey number......just keeping the wheels greased........

nice call though..........you wouldnt believe how many people on these MB wouldnt know that
What team did Giants beat in Wild Card game to get to San Fran that year?

another wheel greaser.....

we beat the Rams in a squeeker.......

Who was the Rams QB in that game?

I wanna say Kemp....but im not married to that answer........

It was Kemp and who was the Rams "big gun" @ RB?

Z

****erson.......man he was scary.....

That he was [****erson] but he never seemed to hurt us to badly for some reason. Our LB corp probably had a lot to do with it...speaking of which which Giant LB recovered a Kemp fumble at the end of that game to secure the Giant playoff win?

Z

hmmm....dont recall that fumble.....ill say Gary Reasons

Didn't know off top of my head. I forgot he played for Giants (one season). But I knew it couldn't be Archie and the only other brother QBs I could think of are the Hasselbecks. So had to be Don Hasselbeck.

Hi guys! I'm amazed at the wealth of useless (but fun) knowledge all of you Gfans posses! I wanted to get into the MB awhile back, but I didn't have (make) the time to read thru all of the posts, so I thought it wouldn't be right. Just wanted to explain why I possess so little knowledge relative to all of you that made this thread so special. After college, I went in the Army for 4 yrs. When I got out in '68, got married and have only been in NY maybe 4 times since. Really never had the $ to go to Giant games after that. Most of my knowledge goes back to the '50's, and many of the players you mention in the '70's, I've never heard of because we were living either in Louisville or near Pittsburgh, and G games were'nt shown. Forgive Me! I'm still a pretty rabid Gfan, tho' one whose memory is going (along with a few other things) lol.
looking forward to another SB run! Keep the faith!

Welcome 'first game'. I'd say you're about the same age as me... 62 years young. Nice that you continued to bleed blue after you moved away. Yeah, the info here is "useless (but fun)" and is nice to bring back some uselesss memories, like the last question/answer ... Ed Marshall. I totally forgot him. Although the new stadium made '76 memorable, it was a forgettable team. Morton wasn't one of my favorite Gman QB's. We're lucky now to have a good team. I'm sure you remember suffering through the run of bad teams from '64 until the early 80's. Let's hope that never happens again.

Always a good question...Did ya look it up? How about we set up an "honors system" clause. If you place a response by looking it up, just place an * at the end. No harm in looking it up, but would be nice to know if someone comes up with correct answer off the top of their head. There is one site in particular that you can find extreme detail about NFL games..you probably know it. I found that last name Ed Marshall there, but decided not to post it since I "looked it up".

LOL. Two different answers. David Tyree was the special teamer who also happened to be a WR, but I'd guess he might have caught between 0 and 5 receptions that year.

I still think Homer was the last, starting WR who made it for us. Unless Burress went one year, but I don't remember him doing it.

I just looked it up... Tyree had 5 receptions for 52 yards in 2005... all in a single game against San Diego.

He is a vary valuable and versatile man. Also had a blocked punt in 2005. I hope TC has a place for him... our special teams are much better with him in there. For that alone, I would put him on the squad... then, he's always available as a WR, and we all know he makes a good catch every so often... like, it occurs to me one time agianst the Pats, he made this catch... lol.

In fact, in honor of Memorial Day, along with our great soldiers past and present, lets put in a special Memorial, Sports Wing today, for all those great Giants who have given us special memories.

Tyree is one. Eli on the other side of that play is one. Sub category... Scott Norwood... we'll put him in the meorial, over on the right side. Bavaro, dragging most of theniner team down the field.

Who was the last Giant to make the probowl as a WR?

LOL. Two different answers. David Tyree was the special teamer who also happened to be a WR, but I'd guess he might have caught between 0 and 5 receptions that year.

I still think Homer was the last, starting WR who made it for us. Unless Burress went one year, but I don't remember him doing it.

I'm hoping one of our current guys will step up and become one

You guys have good memories. Nice job Zimonami! Tyree of course and...

Homer Jones in the 1968 ProBowl with Greg Larson, Spider Lockhart and the great Fran Tarkenton.

in Simms rookie season........how many games did he start?

.....did he have more TDs or INTs that year?

....and who was the rookie WR that started 10 games and caught 4 of those TDs that season......

before you look it up take a stab.........

I'll guess 11 games. I know he had more Int's than TD in one of his years, so I'll guess it was this rookie year.

That's easy... Phil was our #1 and Earnest Gray was drafted right behind Phil in Rnd. 2

Gray was good, but he dropped enough 3rd down passes to give me too many bad moments. Not catching those passes were, at the time, a big difference in keeping drives alive, ball and clock control, and some points. Instead we punted too often. Our D kept us in the games.

My first choice will be Rocky Thompson... the Bermuda flash. Around '71? I saw him score his first Pro TD at the Yale Bowl on a kickoff return... his very first touch as a Giant... although I can't remember - it might have been a preseason game. Anyways, I'll go with him. I have another possible in mind in case it isn't Rocky.

Got to be... we drafted Joe Don Looney "Tunes" 1st, but he lasted only a month before we sent him off to Baltimore. Then there were others who never lived up to their 1st Rnd status... Dayne, Bunch, Woolfolk, Wheatley, Adams... but they scored more than a handful of TD's for us. There were other 1st round RB's, pre 1960, but I'm not too familiar with the ones who never panned out.

I remember Rocky taking the preseason kickoff to the house, and the fans were all excited... then it was just obvious he couldn't play with the big boys. If he had a hole, he had the speed to make it exciting, but he was just too small and not strong enough, unlike someone like Morris, who was small and quick, but who could also shed a tackle now and then because he had a strong lower body.

Rocky Thompson is correct. He was fun to watch and we had hopes, but alas..a 1st round bust. Sorry if I was vague. Don't want to make these so easy that you don't have to think. ( or at least need some research time). See ya.

I also remembered the Henry Carr answer (He played safety for us) because I'm a big track and field Summer Olympics fan. 1964 Bullet Bob Hayes won the 100m gold, and Carr won the 200m gold. They were the two fastest men in the world. They were also on our gold medal 4 X 100m relay. Once Carr caught that ball there was no one who could catch him. I can't remember why he only played a few years... just wasn't a good enough football player, or injury, or some other diversion? Anyone know?

Dang, you guys are quick, and good. Anyone know?

he was like a bullet from a gun.......

I would love to know to why he didnt play more than a few years of football.........

if anyone has any post NFL info on Carr I am very interested.....

while we are on the subject......

Carr had only 1 pick in 1967....his final season as a NFL player......who did he pick off?

I don't think you'd ask this if it weren't a well known QB... so, I'll say Bart Starr, 1st pick, and Sonny Jurgenson, 2nd choice

Charley Johnson?

Couldn't agree with you more, YA. I was 18 when the slide started and 35 with a 13 and 10 year old sons who were weaned on rooting for a consistently sad team. Expectations were always there that we's turn the corner. Remember 1973? 6-0 in preseason. I remember Giant fans thinking that we'd finally get back on track. Regular season?... 2-11-1. That was the very last time I ever cared about a preseason score. Now I just care about seeing how our rookies look, and what kind of depth we have. To me, Troy Archer epitomized those trying times. He was, I am convinced, a Pro Bowl regular in the making... someone who we believed would help us turn the corner, and then he died so tragically... just like our hopes every year

You guys were lucky enough to know some actual success as youngsters. I was born in 64 and in my life this was the first playoff. I was 18 when Carpenter ran for 161 vs the Eagles. All through grade school I was mocked for being a fan of the Giants.

I'm going to agree 100% with you, jints 10. I'm glad I was able to see the great defenses of the late 50's and early 60's, and to hope for a return to that status. I'd wouldn't have been happy being a youngster and getting ribbed forthe long years ofbad teams.

whoops... read it (weeks) but it didn't sink in. I'd say the mainfactor... more TV revenue for the extra weeks, and, again, the NFLPA probably had a hand by agreeing so the players could get a few weeks of rest. That represented two bye weeks for each team. I can't remember exactly, but think it probably lasted 2-3 years

Stacey was injury prone, yes, because he was, like too many WR's that we have had, a skinny little guy. As time goes by the DB's in the league, like at every other position, get bigger and stronger. I always wonder, when we draft a small guy like Moss, if we aren't just asking for the guy to miss a significant part of any season due to injuries. Smith, Nicks, Manningham, and Barden all have some decent size, but Hixon and Moss are on the small side.

For the first time since '68 I'm not sure what I'll be doing this season for the games because of the health of my wife. Every year I share the tickets with my Bro'-in'law, cousinn, and my son. Im almost positive that hold out was in 1990....

.....pretty sure they played the Eagles at home....

.....Ill say 2 sacks......

2 out of 3 nice job......the # of sacks is wrong

maybe 3 sacks?

.........who caught Elis' first completion last season?

I'll say Kevin Boss.....just guessing

When Simms went down in 1990 another QB [not a Giant] went down the same day. It looked like he was done for the year at the time but he came back in the postseason. Anyone remember who it was?

didnt Harbaugh go down?

I thought Jim Kelley got hurt in the regular season game vs us. I may be wrong though I remember the field being icy.
