yea, but I think what Dezz means is that the majority of Americans(and by majority we're talking 99%) could give 2 ****s about hockey. It's almost taking the backburner to soccer.
I for one dont watch hockey, def dont waste my time with meaningless olympics, so I dont care either. I'm not overly patriotic, so none of this stuff impresses me or "gets me going". Its just a waste of good tv air time and pushes real entertainment back a few weeks =\</P>

My man's gotta bat 5th...he's gotta!
Posada isnt going to always put up Posada numbers, and swisher just plain sucks!
It's painfully obvious to me that it's Jeter, Cano, Tex, A-Rod, Granderson.....
I dont even know why the org would consider another lineup. no brainer.</P>

Think of Poughkeepsie High School beating the Washington Capitals. That would be a little more accurate....lol.</P>

The Russians did not play in the NHL back then. The NHL actually put together a All Star team back then to play the Russians. They got emberassed by that same Russian team..</P>

These guys were a bunch of decent college players who went on to the NHL because of the Olympics..</P>

Jim Craig stood on his head in that game..If not for all those AMAZING saves he made, the Russians would have won by the usual 10-12 goals....</P>

something is seriously wrong here....

Cano, while not always the "average" hitter we saw last year, has always been a contact hitter. You need that in the early lineup, and the guy NEVER strikes out. He had an awesome season, and the stats show it. WHO THE **** IS NICK JOHNSON. he should bat 9th for playing for the Nats...christ.

As the story goes, the league the russians played in was like nothing the NHL would have ever experienced.(however, over the last 30 years, im sure that story has become skewed because of the ultimate cinderalla story Americans have turned it into).</P>

Jim Craig stood on his head in that game..If not for all those AMAZING saves he made, the Russians would have won by the usual 10-12 goals....</P>

what all star team.. was it just1 game..ora mini series like Canada Cup? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1979_challenge_cup</P>

I remember thinking the Russians were just toying with the Stars, and turned it on in the 3rd game..</P>

Take a peek at the All Star roster...half those guys are in the Hall.</P>

ALLISON, Iowa -- A tearful former football player told Iowa police
that he repeatedly shot his high school coach because he believed him
to be a devil who turned students "into dead people," according to an
interview with the murder suspect recorded just hours after Ed Thomas'
death.</p>

The scratchy, muddled audio recording of 24-year-old Mark
Becker's confession was played to a packed Butler County courtroom on
the second day of his trial for first-degree murder. Becker has pleaded
not guilty by reason of insanity.</p>

Prosecutors say Becker calmly
walked into the weight room at Aplington-Parkersburg High School on the
morning of June 24 and killed Thomas in front of a group of teenage
students.</p>

"I put one in his head, then I put two more in his
head, then I put one in the knee," Becker said in the recording of his
interview with Division of Criminal Investigation agent Chris Callaway
less than two hours after Thomas was shot dead. "I emptied the clip and
left it empty."</p>

Callaway testified that Becker said during the
interview that he felt "no guilt or shame" about the slaying, although
he had cried as he confessed to the killing. Becker's voice trembled at
times during the recording.</p>

Becker told Callaway that as he
approached Thomas, his former coach turned and greeted him. "And I shot
him," Becker said, adding, "It's a great thing. It's so good."</p>

The
suspect has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, and his attorneys
have said that they will try to show he is a paranoid schizophrenic who
had not taken his prescribed medication the night before the shooting.</p>

In
the interview, Becker spoke in a monotone about why he wanted to kill
Thomas, the 2005 NFL High School Coach of the Year and a leader in
rebuilding Parkersburg after a huge tornado wiped out about one-third
of the town and killed six people in 2008.</p>

"He's a devil, he's a
devil tyrant, he's suppressing the kids out here," Becker said on the
recording. "We can hardly breathe at night. He comes through and he
turns us into fish and he turns us into animals and he turns us into
dead people. He won't let us be our heavenly selves. He's been doing it
forever."</p>

Becker said that after the shooting he told the
students present that they were free. Six students who witnessed the
shooting have already testified.</p>

"I walked out and said, 'be
free,'" Becker exclaimed. "You go in there and kick him if you want to,
but you're free. I said, 'be free.'</p>

"It's done, it's done, it's over."</p>

During the interview, Becker told Callaway that he saw the devil, "a horned beast," in the room with them.

Nestling up to a cauldron of pressurized, molten rock is almost never a good idea. But in Mexico's Naica mine (http://www.treehugger.com/files/2010/01/geologists-explore-giant-crystals-in-fated-cave.php), the payoff is worth the risk.</p>

About 900 feet below the surface, there is a chamber filled with gypsum (http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2007/04/05/giantcrystals_pla.html?category=earth&amp;guid=2007040 5100000).
It's the same stuff that goes in the drywall in your house, only in
Naica it spent half a million years parboiling in a chamber filled with
magma-heated water. </p>

Suddenly miners showed up (http://news.discovery.com/videos/earth-scientists-seek-ban-on-mountaintop-mining.html) and started pumping the mineral-rich broth out to get at valuable silver and lead deposits nearby. The result is a cavern (http://news.discovery.com/earth/the-message-from-moaning-cavern.html) filled with crystals 36 feet long and weighing in at up to 55 tons, easily the largest in the world (http://www.treehugger.com/files/2009/10/worlds-longest-cave-keeps-growing-longer.php).</p>

<hr style="" width="380" align="left" noshade="noshade" size="2">

<div style="margin: 15px;">

Last Fall, adventurer and filmmaker George Kourounis traveled to
Naica to see the incredible “Crystal Cave of Giants” for himself.
Though there's little risk of eruption (http://news.discovery.com/videos/earth-underwater-volcano-caught-on-video.html)
from the nearby magma chamber, the cave itself is still deadly hot –
over 120 Fahrenheit with about 90 percent humidity. People are only
allowed in without cooling suits for a few minutes at a time.</p>

Watch a video about the Naica Mine cave at Discovery Channel! (http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/discovery-atlas-mexico-mine-of-naica.html)
</p>

Kourounis detailed his journey on his Web site (http://www.stormchaser.ca/Caves/Naica/Naica.html):</p>

</p><blockquote>

"When we first arrived at the Naica mine, Manuel and his crew took
us inside without wearing the special cooling suits. This was in order
to get us used to what REAL heat is like. There is a steel door
protecting the cave and as soon as you pass through it, the temperature
hits you like a truck.</p>

But as soon as you get your first glimpse of the incredible
crystals, you want to keep going deeper. We were inside for only 14
minutes, which was pushing the danger limits without cooling suits.
When we exited, the staging area was a "cool" 41 Celsius. My heart was
pounding and I was completely soaked in sweat, my shirts, pants, socks
&amp; boots... Everything. All we could do was sit, drink and rest."</p>
</blockquote>

Cooling suits – vests of frozen gel packs surrounded by insulation,
plus a backpack that supplies the wearer with chilled air to breathe –
allow people to remain in the mine for close to an hour. Kourounis and
his crew took the opportunity to snap these incredible images as well
as shoot some video.</p>

</p></div>

http://news.discovery.com/earth/2010/02/11/naice-photo-shoot-825x553.jpg

Of his experience visiting the crystal cave, Kourounis writes:</p>

<blockquote>

"I've never seen such a spectacular place (http://dsc.discovery.com/earth/slideshows/top-10-spectacular-places/). It was like setting foot on a new planet (http://news.discovery.com/space/mars-meteorite-life-magnetites.html).
Many of the crystals were so large that I couldn't even wrap my arms
around them and the terrain was so difficult to walk on that we had to
be extremely cautious not to slip and fall. Doing so would could get
you impaled on a sharp crystal and would require a dangerous and
difficult rescue."</p>
</blockquote>

Sadly, once the silver (http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2009/08/13/nanoparticles-art.html)
in Naica runs out, miners will likely turn the pumps off again. The
chamber will fill with water, the crystals will once again be among
Earth's vast, inaccessible depths. </p>

<hr style="" width="380" align="left" noshade="noshade" size="2">

<div style="margin: 15px;">

Last Fall, adventurer and filmmaker George Kourounis traveled to
Naica to see the incredible “Crystal Cave of Giants” for himself.
Though there's little risk of eruption (http://news.discovery.com/videos/earth-underwater-volcano-caught-on-video.html)
from the nearby magma chamber, the cave itself is still deadly hot –
over 120 Fahrenheit with about 90 percent humidity. People are only
allowed in without cooling suits for a few minutes at a time.</p>

Watch a video about the Naica Mine cave at Discovery Channel! (http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/discovery-atlas-mexico-mine-of-naica.html)
</p>

</blockquote>

<blockquote>

</blockquote>

Sadly, once the silver (http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2009/08/13/nanoparticles-art.html)
in Naica runs out, miners will likely turn the pumps off again. The
chamber will fill with water, the crystals will once again be among
Earth's vast, inaccessible depths. </p>

isn't that where superman lives?
lmao, thats awesome. sooo basically those crystals are absolutely worthless unless they make sheet rock out of it? lol damn. imagine it was diamond. cha-ching, wed probably invade mehhhico

why bat Granderson 2nd!?! he bat .250 last year....care to explain?

cuz that was an off year fo rhim... he can hit for average - ESPECIALLY in yankee stadium

They say he has a few mechanics off with his game, but the dudes an allstar, hes the truth

dezz - u said u only liked the vas move? You don't like the Granderson move?
yeaaaa but that made way for us to part with what we have. if someone said your getting granderson but losing matsui and damon id tell them to go **** themself

na ur crazy, i'd rather have Granderson over both of them,

Nick Johnson is startin to grow on me... hes a guy thats been victim of big ballfields for power and has a high OBP... and VERY respectable average...

it just hurt to lose Matsui and Damon over him
hahaha what did johnson do to get him to start growing on you?

i dont think either of them will be as clutch as matsui, you just dont let a guy with 6 rbis in the biggest game of his life just walk.

thats just like saying id trade matsui and damon for granderson. no way

well in fairness, hes also choked more times than i can remember.Keep in mind that was his first ring and his inability to show up for big games was a big part of us only having one ring in the past 10 years

Jordan Hill is really the only player that matter. T-Mac will be a FA after this year so essentially you got rid of 2 horrible contracts and a little lower first round pick. Makes sense to me, they are trying to clear cap space.

what about having horrible 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, and the first two rounds of 2009 series performances? That means nothing just because he had one good series on the tail end of his career...

to call Matsui clutch overall as a player is a homer comment. Was he clutch in the WS this past year? Yes. Does that officially give him a clutch nametag? no
????in 03, 05, 07 he knocked in over 100 ribs and batted over 280 he had 100 runs......maybe you mean trouble for other teams [:D]06 he got hurt.

i could say melkys not clutch cause he didnt do **** in the playoffs too

not in the playoffs he didn't.

Melky single handedly broke most walkoff hits in a single year by a player at age 24... MAtsui is 36 and hasn't had as many walkoffs period. Melky got big hits for us too and timely ones..

Matsui BURIED us in alot of series...

I like Granderson and Swisher (as long as he isnt slumpin terribly) and im still undecided on Gardner, he hits with the power of an 11yr old girl (and yes I know its not all about power, but gimme SOMETHING) Im not comfortable with a pinch-runner starting daily

why bat Granderson 2nd!?! he bat .250 last year....care to explain?

cuz that was an off year fo rhim... he can hit for average - ESPECIALLY in yankee stadium

Nick Johnson is startin to grow on me... hes a guy thats been victim of big ballfields for power and has a high OBP... and VERY respectable average...

it just hurt to lose Matsui and Damon over him
hahaha what did johnson do to get him to start growing on you?

i dont think either of them will be as clutch as matsui, you just dont let a guy with 6 rbis in the biggest game of his life just walk.

thats just like saying id trade matsui and damon for granderson. no way

well in fairness, hes also choked more times than i can remember.Keep in mind that was his first ring and his inability to show up for big games was a big part of us only having one ring in the past 10 years

matt, i clearly said"i dont think either of them will be as clutch as matsui"compared to johnson and ganderson. "his inability to show up for big games was a big part of us only having one ring in the past 10 years" theres another 8 guys that bat right? id say jeter and arod was alot bigger part of us having only one ring, and pitching of course[;)]

being clutch doesnt mean having 40 walk offs hits/hrs. its keeping your team in the game and theres more times then i can remember him doing that.

I know man....sometimes I cry at the thought(lol not really)

I dont know if you were around these parts last summer when I was telling everyone about the NYY/SEA game I went to. Aunt and Uncle got me tix for my bday, cuz they know im a Junior fan. Since I was a kid, all I wanted to see was Junior hit a HR at Yankee Stadium. But Seattle tickets back then were out of my pop's price range. Nowadays its like watching the Orioles =P
Wellll, it was a close score that day, and I was waiting in line for a beer. I heard the announcer say KGJs name so i left line to go watch, and take some pictures. Junior blasts one like 5 rows deep into right field's short porch. The place actually went nuts. Lotta Jr. fans around the country Id assume.
Next inning......AN A-BOMB FOR A-ROD to take the lead. awesome game.

3 of the games I went to last year the Yanks won 2 with walkoffs, and lost by a walkoff once lol. The first game was agaisnt the twins, Gardener hit a in the park HR, and a triple and melky got a walk off.</P>

Because he was drunk and killed a guy. Normally that would get you several years in prison. He paid the family as a settlement to avoid a possible lawsuit.</P>

My point is that his drinking didn't have anything to do with the accident. Thats why the sentence was so light. Plus he stopped immediately, called 911 and told the truth to the police as soon as they arrived. The reality is that he did what allof us have done. He had a .126 level. If I remember correctly, there were reports this pedestrian darted out from behind two parked cars right infront of Stallworth, I'm sure his lawyer was going to play up the fact that the accident was unavoidable, which, in FLORIDA, would have the charges drop, apparently you need to PROVE alcohol caused the accident in florida, just testing the BAC means nothing.

listen your 100% right we all have done what hes done and im the last person who should say anything about it. what was he charged with? im guessing man slaughter. if they didnt have a case because there was witnesses and all that he should of just spent the night in jail for drinking and driving, correct?
again im just speculating, i think him waiting for and telling cops the truth goes a long way.

Whats amazing is how all the dems cite the reason they are leaving is because some sort of "Log-Jam"...

they seem to be blaming the Republicans for stopping all this "good stuff" they got coming for us.

but wait a second, up until like last month didn't the Dems have a super majority? couldn't they have forced through whatever they wanted, can't they still do that now using recollection (or whatever it's called)........

how can the Republican's be at fault for holding everything back, the Dem's have control of everything right now.

Sintim showed some great flashes of awesomenesssss this season....and I consider ourselves extremely fortunate that we didnt even have to use Barden this year....but I think eventually this guy could be the BEAST. In fact i think we should call him Ramses THE BEAST Barden lol.

I don't think so Morehead, I'm almost 100% positive that the pick we got was used for Rhett Bomar, the 5th round we used in the trade was our own fifth round.

Sintim I like, but he's not as useful to us as Shockey was IMHO, and Barden I love, but he's done nothing yet at all....plus he has nothing to do with the Shockey trade anyhow.

how about this, though, lets all agree that we should have kept Shianco, let Shockey go, and never used a pick for Boss.

The existence of a second fifth round pick enabled us to trade up for Barden. (thats some badass Daven-logic right there) </P>

So its either Sintim and half of Barden or Sintim and all of Bohmer. Either way, its worth it for a half-broken down, malcontented TE like Shockey.</P>

I would show more interest in what you posted because i LOVE guitar....but i was never able to get into it. Was far too busy with schooling when I first got into music, too poor to buy guitars, and when I had the motivation to learn, I didnt have the patience(or the money lol) to learn. i couldn't disagree more. When i was promoting rock shows in north jersey for a couple of years i stumbled across ALOT of original bands that had really good sounds and styles. Its the people that suck. Its the record companies and radio stations fault, they play the same **** every 5 minutes and just look for somebody sexy to put on the front of a CD...

the music is out there, you just have to find it. The fact that NY has NO real rock station, is disgusting

Hey Morehead ...good to see you ...this is off subject...anyhow ..I heard a song I liked by "The Used" thanks to JP..So I went looking for the chords and it lead me towhat they call open D turning..So I gave it a try its pretty cool ..Don't know if you have experimented with alternate turnings or not but I thought I would pass this along this guy has a pretty good site and shows you how to tune and gets you started with alternate chords...http://www.strummeronline.com/dtuning.html </P>

</P>

I'm more of a Milli Vanilli, Marky Mark, and Vanilla Ice kind of guy. Lady Ga Ga being at the top of that list.</P>

</P>

uhm thats cool
</P>

Actually, I heard my first Lady Ga Ga song this week on Fuel TV. She actually has a nice singing style. At least in the song I heard. But the gimmicks are boring.</P>

Musicians today seem to need gimmicks. The music isn't good enough. And songwriting today is a nightmare.</P>

</P>

People call me lame, but thats why I like Taylor Swift so much. The girl is 19, wrote her own album at 16, and it went platinum, as did her 2nd album. And does a fine job of performing them.She's got my support.....and anything else she wants of mine........... ;)
I think you and I have similar appreciations in that respect.(songwriting)

at the same time though, if the song writing is not great, I'm a music fan above all...so that's clearly important too</P>

i couldn't disagree more.

</P>

Well Matt, I've probably never heard any of those bands so I can't really judge. The music I hear on the radio all sounds the same. We have a band from here called Staind. It seems to me that every band sounds like Staind and Staind sounds like every band. They usually have good lead singers but the arrangements, harmonys and attitudes are all exactly the same. God, they even all dress the same.</P>

In a word, music today is BORING.</P>

Thats why a band like Radiohead is so popular. I really don't think they are very good at all, but at least they don't sound like everyone else. Their last good album (in my opinion) was Pablo Honey.</P>
